My very excited mother and I went around the world today (or what it seemed) to just see what was out there for babies, and I talked her into going into the Goodwill in Harrison, Ohio, where we'd just had a lovely lunch. Wow!!! What a great idea I had! All furniture was 50% off and I found a lovely little dresser from 1950 (a furniture company called "Dixie") with 3 large drawers, and a top bookshelf part with two more drawers--$30.00, but TODAY, $15.00!!!! So we snatched it up--a coat of paint, some new handles and it will be WONDERFUL, boy or girl!

AND, my favorite find of the day was when we went around back to pick up the dresser. There was (what I thought was overnite donations) but turned out to be garbage, and on top of that garbage was a 1940-1950's era Scott's metal fertilzer/seed spreader, that still had the original tires and original old orange/green paint with the Scott logo--the very same one I saw at Burlington Antique show for $70.00....so I asked the manager if I could buy it, even though it was their "garbage" and he said "Sure, a buck...ask and ye shall receive!" So BOOM, in the car it went with my other baby dresser treasure. Next Spring, there will be a baby AND an old fashioned spreader planted with lovely Spring blooms...

Balance IS everything, Katie! Amen to that!!!

Oddly enough, it's the way I do all my shopping...something for you, something for me, something for mom, something for me...

Well, I was excited over the great finds, until I realized you were talking about YOU having a baby! Wow! How exciting for you and Jus! I'm so happy for you guys. BIG hugs to you both! And, of course, hugs to Miss Wilma as the adopted Gram!

When are you due? Are you doing up the baby's room? What colors are you doing? Is there anything you need? Or anything specific that you would like to have? I have so many questions, I'm so excited for you! Must have pictures when the happy bundle arrives.

Thanks, Amy :) I'm still high on the "find"...I love the hunt at the thrift, don't you? I'm planning on painting it in September, when temps outside are lovely, so I'll post a photo then...I'm keeping myself awake at night with projects!!!

Thanks, Donna! Obviously, we're happy as clams ;)

I feel like I did super well today at the thrift--really happy with that dresser and my seed spreader. It still has the wheels that say, "Marysville, Ohio.

Janice took me to some fabulous thrift stores, and I think they are associated with a vets charity. Not Amvets..but a Foreign war vets association. Email her through the forum, Donna, because she can give you a list as long as your arm! We could have gone all day and night, I think!!!

Jonni this is exciting news! And Miss Wilma is going to be a grandmother!

Jonni you are such a thrift finder. I need to go shopping with you sometime. Speaking of that - I posted yesterday requesting names of thrift shops in Louisville. Miss K and I are going to need some shopping therapy on Tuesday after dropping Miss A off at the airport. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your lovely thoughts, Ronna! I think that's who made my baby dresser, toddler bed etc...it was white with a gold brushed bevelled edge. Mom really loved it and hated to part with it when I got a bit older...They sure don't make furniture like they used to. This thing is solid, and all the drawers are dovetailed and I know it's been well loved by several members of a family, because there are several coats of paint . One more won't make a difference!

Yep, Wilma is an adopted Gram...and I can't wait for her to hold the little one!!!

I missed that posting too Jonni. Congratulations on the upcoming blessed event. Good buy on the dresser, just don't make furniture like they used to. I still have my daughters baby chest from 1962 and it was a couple years old when I bought it..for $10. Don't know if the Edison Baby Furniture Company is still in business, have never thought to check. It has sewing stuff in it now, but will go back to my daughter some day.
Hope you're feeling just fine and know this will be a very loved addition to your family.

Sounds like a good day, for sure, Miss Wilma! If you're having weather like ours here, it was darn near perfect!

Donna...yep, baby I posted in the Parenting and Farmkids thread a few days back. I felt like that was the best place, I guess :)
