I was up early to bake choc. chip cookies with espresso and cinnamon (yum!). Then I'm off to my parents where my sibs and I are taking on the task of cataloging and tagging their barnful of antiques. They have a booth at a mall and spend the summer attending lots of auctions but Mom's been sick so they've fallen behind on the cataloging. This evening we're off to a Halloween party (final desination of the cookies). I'll be dressing as a whimsical witch. I'm supposed to be telling ghost stories but I've got a sore throat and I'm not sure my voice is going to cooperate. What's everybody else up to on this crisp fall day? Whatever it is, have a great one!

Judes- That bunny was adorable!!!

Well Sunday I had my niece(12) and great-nephew(4) over and we made cut-out cookies. Bats, cats, ghosts & pumpkins. I needed to take some to work today! Thay had a blast!! Some of them looked a little strange 4 year olds can be a tad bit artistic on these type of projects!! But they still taste good!! I also made soup for a fundraiser at work on Monday.
Today is Halloween so I needed to dress-up for work...I dressed as a surgeon in scrubs. Comfy!! My morning was quite hectic. I kept hearing a dog yelping, I was kinda of griping cuz I am not real found of my neighbors dogs. They just moved in not long ago, so I keep trying to be patient.....anyway long story...
I went to take scraps out to the compost, one of the neighbors dogs(big dogs) was hanging out of the sheds window by his feet.
I have no idea how he got himself in such a predictament. They had put a board up over the partial broken window and he somehow wedge his self out but his feet got stuck. Poor pup. Well I went and told the girl because I knew he would die if he hung there real long. She then asked for my help and I couldn't refuse, she sounded desperate. We got him out and suprisingly his legs was OK. But it really put me behind schedule.
We had snacks at work and a soup fundraiser for a employee who lost her home in Katrina. Lot's of people dressed up so it was a fun day at work.
I don't do the Haloween door-to door treat thing so I plan on going home and watching movies.

Diance, I'm sorry to hear about your day! I'm sure tomorrow will be better! I had a not so fun Saturday, and woke up to a magical Sunday...

Inspired by Frannie's awesome day in Green County the other day, my husband and I took a drive out to the "country" (he calls everything that's 20 minutes east of us "Pennsylvania, but we didn't go that far) The plan was to bring the camera, capture the changing leaves, pick some apples, and maybe buy a pumpkin. What really happened was nothing short of extraordinary! .....This story is continued on my blog...It was too much to post! http://schoolstreet.blogspot.com.

PS Thanks for clearing up the DH thing for me! I call my husband D...because it's his initial and it just sorta happened, the way nicknames do! Tiffany, I live in Northeast OH, but in the city. The Hot Toddy Party is a fun idea...it's my first one at the store so I'm exited. I work at an jewelry/accessory/home decor/art gallery/store/boutique! It's loaded with handmade goods from all over the country & all over the world (manufactured stuff, too...)

Well up bright and early with the time change and intentions of getting laundry caught up and continuing with the painting of the living/dining room.
Put the first load in the dryer and ten minutes later it overheats...scary. It was old anyway, so time to bite the bullet and get a new one. Meantime I can hang things to dry and in goes another load to the washer. The brake fails and it almost literally falls apart. Also leaks oil all over the laundry room carpet. Wonderful.
Off to Costco to purchase new ones...it's nuts busy in there and takes us well over an hour. Come home to find company and they leave at supper time.
So I'm $1000 poorer (like we can afford it) and got nothing accomplished today. The best intentions... Oh well, there's always tomorrow and it always waits for ya!

You know, I'm good at organizing other people's stuff, but I always put my stuff off until I can't stand it anymore!! Last weekend my daughter asked me to organize her kitchen cupboards, particularly her spices, boxed & canned goods, etc. since they all just kinda got stashed when they moved recently. It's fun even though I'm methodical about it. I also organized their fridge, without asking them, as it was a mess! It was appreciated too. (Lucked out there!haha)

It has been a cleaning, rearranging and getting organized weekend for me. I'm in the process of passing on the photo albums to my daughter, from her growing up years, and that is rather bittersweet. I feel good giving them to her, but find that I'm not as attached to them as I thought I might be. It's good that she's getting them now and can tell her kids stories around them.

I'm also FINALLY getting my act together and am sewing dear K.C.'s apron. One more to go on my promise list (J.P.'s) after that. It's very relaxing for me, so it's good to be back at it.

The sun is shining and it's 50ish... so I put some overalls outside to dry. Hopefully they'll get at least almost dry before the sun goes down. I forgot to set my clocks back last night, so I had an earlier start than I expected this morning. So much for thinkin' I was sleeping in! haha.

Frannie, your Saturday sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing!

Judes - the Hot Toddy Party sounds like a great way to get into the holiday spirit. What kind of store do you work at? Where in Ohio are you? I live in the northeast corner of Indiana.

Today was much slower paced than yesterday, which is good. I did some work outside (the last of everything has now been pulled up from the garden) and took a nap this afternoon. Now I'm catching a second wind and am thinking about making another batch of cookies for work tomorrow. DH is making lasagna for dinner and we always plan some "wind down time" on Sunday evening to relax before the work week starts back up.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Frannie!...That sounds absolutely delightful! Makes me want to wake my husband up right now and head off to Green County!

Tiffany~Every year at the store where I work, we have a Hot Toddy Party the first Saturday in December. My boss (and friend) makes "Hot Toddies" (a yummy, warm rum drink), and we serve wine, appetizers & desserts. Everyone gets all dressed up and come to eat, drink and shop! It's basically a way to thank our customers (we have bargain bins and things like that...which we don't have throughout the year...only at this event) and to make shopping a fun event! This is actually my first year on board. My boss has been doing it on her own for 5 years so she handed the designing of the invitation over for this year. I'm almost done! Just can't stare at it too long or I'll start to find things wrong with it.

hey, will somebody tell me....what is a DH? I kept thinking it was someone's initials...but I don't think everyone's husbands names start with D!
Love,

got up bright and early .. had coffee outside with my honey (bundled up on a blanket)-- frost on the grass! posted a few 'books' that i am selling to my 'treasure seekers' .. headed out the door to ride in the countryside to enjoy the turning of the leaves here in kentucky. stopped by a river and took a walk along it .. then visited Abraham Lincoln's Boyhood Home at Knob Creek .. headed for the quaint, historic town of Bardstown (second oldest town in Kentucky .. had a wonderful lunch with honey hunk at a sidewalk cafe .. then visited a 'pioneer village' .. full of log cabins .. and visited FOUR civil war museums .. then we had a sumptous and romantic dinner at a restaurant across the street from "MY OLDE KENTUCKY HOME" (the home that Stephen Foster wrote his famous song about! THEN .. we went to see the movie: ELIZABETHTOWN .. (which is about the town right next to where we live in Kentucky) .. home again .. checked e-mails (sold lots of the books i listed this morning) .. and NOW .. i'm going to snuggle down and read some more of my Janice Holt Giles novel about life in pioneer days Kentucky! (she was an author who used to live in the next county over from my county (Green County, Kentucky).

well, that was and is my lovely Saturday! frannie

We had 45 mph winds from the south today so I hung out sheets and tableclothes today to dry on the line. True prairie winds! Cleaned out closets today also! We will carve the punkins tommorow! Finished cleaning up my gardens today. Picked the smallest little bell green peppers I have ever seen! My vegg garden was a flop this year...except for the corn!

Started off early this AM. Three of us went to the church to clean. Son went to help someone move. Hubby and son doing serious in the crawl space renovations. I am picking out paper templates from my quilt. We are going to a wedding reception tonight. Just couldn't get into my apples today. Will have to put them up on Monday.

Since it has been raining here, we've been concentrating on getting the spare bedroom painted so my husband can move some of his office furniture there. So he has been taping and painting workwork while I went down to Woodburn to see my parents and pick up some periennals from my Mom's garden to plant before winter. Then it was back and do help paint and do laundry. Later I hope to start carving our pumpkins and tomorrow get the headless guy set up on the porch with the crows for the trick or treaters. Speaking of which, good ole hubby just broke into the Costco Big Bag of chocolate candy.

I have had a busy day so far...got to sleep in just a little and then after breakfast and a couple phone calls to answer went out back to do come yard cleanup and chores. I had a guy come buy a goat at about noon and so since it was his first I showed him how to trim hooves and had him write down when she was to be due to kid, due for worming, shots and all and recomended a book. we helped load her up and say goodbye..always sad..and then I went back to work. Picked the last of the apples on the tree out back and then sheared my little angora doe, Pearl and trimmed her hooves and gave her her CDT shot. I am not breeding her this year since she rejected her baby last year...so she is set ...all her "winterizing done". I still need to shear my little churro ram.. I hate that I waited so long to shear him, but I hand shear so I can leave a little wool on him for warmth.
Then I cleaned the little milk barn and moved things around to make room for the staunchion for Mona the cow that my husband will hopefully be building here soon.
I need to run to the feed store for a couple things and then get back and shower and change to go to my girl's piano recital tonight at 6:30. Then tonight after that we will finish up halloween costumes. I am about done with them, but need to do the finishing details. I think I will sleep good tonight!!!It has been raining real misty-like off and on since about noon.

Judes - What's a Hot Toddy Party and how do I get invited?

Seems to be "I gotta cold" season doesn't it? We're having great weather this weekend so I'm hoping to wrap up the garden chores while DH gives the lawn a last mow tomorrow. Can't believe it's going to be November in two days! We just had our first hard frost this morning.

Thanks for sharing everyone! It's fun to see how everyone spends their time, makes me feel like I've chatted on the phone with all my good friends.

Surviving on too little sleep...wrapping Christmas gifts for early holiday shoppers, redecorating the store, and designing an invitation for our Hot Toddy Party! When I get home I'll hopefully lay my head & fall to sleep! Sunday and Monday are my days off so lots of work for me today! Happy fall! ~Judes

Continuing with the washing and then priming of the paneling (took you gals' advice) of our living room/dining room so it can be painted. I bought lo-odor primer, but you'd never know it and I'm freezing everyone out with the windows open. Glad I didn't buy the regular stuff, it's pretty heady in here.

Making Christmas cards. I took some tan cardstock, cut green christmas trees out of green paper, then layered rice paper on top, and am stitching the tree to the card. Then I'll just use a gold pen and write in Merry Christmas!

I also made some with snowmen on them, just glued on, with ribbon scarves and tiny buttons, and stitched "Merry Christmas" on the cover.

And baking pumpkin bread for my neighbors.

Hey BEB...Take Care of that Cold!!! My chili has been known to clear sinuses too! YES! There were reports here of a soft blue glow in the distant east horizon! Sounded like loads of fun!

Hope you're feeling better Sue! I've got a cold too. The bonfire sounds great!

We were up late last night so I slept in til 7 a.m. I've been working here at the computer since I got up. I'm going to run errands soon then come home to put a new roof on the greenhouse and pull the last of the root crops in the garden. I have bushels of vegetables that need to be taken to the cold cellar. It's finally stopped raining for more than a day so the garden should be drained enough to work in it for a while.

Today, I am definitely going to take it easy after a week of preparation for our big Halloween party last night. I slept in a bit...8:00 am is sleeping in for me but it was a late night with a raging bonfire! Meadowlark, did you see the glow on the eastern horizon??
About 40+ costumed guests consumed 3 gallons of chili, 8 lbs of sausage, peppers and onions, along with a pile of cornbread, spanish rice, guacamole, hot apple cider and other assorted goodies.
As I write there are an unknown number of sleeping teenage boys camped out in 5 rooms and I am thinking that I better raid the hen house for more eggs! They will be hungry when they wake up.
I have been pretty down and out with a bad cold this week myself, so today I am moving slow with just a bit of cleaning up as the only thing on my agenda. Then later a nice hot bath and a nap before watching a hockey game tonight.
