Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 1:23:28 PM I don't really collect one thing, but I do have 10 or so each Jim Shore pieces and Precious Moments pieces, as well as 8 or so of the wood-look angels (Willow Tree, I think). Anyway, I brought home another small load of stuff from storage and have all of my pieces here now. I love the pieces -- they were either gifts or I bought them because I liked that particular one -- but am wondering if I really need to hang on to the boxes.
We've downsized tremendously (from around 2700 sq feet finished to just under 1400), and my plan is to only keep things that have value -- either sentimental or $$. So would you keep the boxes or toss them?

Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 6:21:39 PM Oh Frannie I'm sooo jealous! My sisters and cousins and I each had our own American Girl doll (I have Samantha). We would spend hours drooling over the cataloge wishing we had the money to buy all their goodies! Patti, do you rememebr if the Little Women dolls were porcelain? I will keep my eye out for them when I'm out second-handing and garage-sale-ing you never know!

Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 4:50:50 PM I appreciate your advice, ladies. Frannie, at first I couldn't believe you have each doll, the furniture, etc., and then I had to laugh because if anyone would have been so enthusiastic and gung-ho, it would be you! :)
Speaking of dolls, you know what I've always wanted? When I was little, a neighbor girl who was an only child and only granddaughter on both sides had all 4 of the Little Women dolls. I wanted them terribly and have looked for them since. Of course, I couldn't afford them now even if I found them, but I still keep an eye out for them when I'm in shops, etc.

Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 3:55:02 PM patti .. if you think that those items with the boxes will increase the value substantially .. and you do wish to sell them someday .. it would probably be wise to keep the boxes .. IF .. you have room to store them neatly and safely so they don't get beat up or dirty. if these treasures are for YOUR delight .. i'd give them a toss. i never did save all the American Girls original boxes (HA! wish i had them now to store all these dollies in!!) .. i have Josephina, Felicity, Samantha, Kirsten, Addy and Molly .. and ALL their original furniture, clothing and accessories .. the entire sets! I got mine before Pleasant Rowland sold the company to a big toy company. I am just now packing them up to put them aside for my grand-daughters .. and have been buying HUGE plastic containers for everything! I hope the girls will play with them and pass them on to their own children and grandchildren some day .. never minding the importance of original boxes. xo

Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 3:14:39 PM I agree with Alee, however if I really wanted something, a box or no box wouldnt stop me from buying it. I wouldnt even think twice about the cost vs with or without the box.

Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 1:31:30 PM If you aren't planning on selling them eventually- toss the boxes. If you want to sell them on E-Bay then you should keep the boxes.
