Hi darlin's! Just wanted to give those of you who are in the "sisterhood" the heads up, that a new henhouse chapter has been started. This virtual chapter will explore junkin' farmgirl style! We will share ideas of re-purposing old finds and get our creative juices flowing! If you heart goes pitter-patter when you see a pile of trash on the side of the road, you are one of us! From re-using old doors and windows to re-purposing kitchen utensils, we will share our ideas with one another. Hope to see some of you join me!

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

How would you define "junk"?
Is it making something useful or new out of something old?
I consider anything bought from Salvation Army junk and many things from a garage sale also. I guess it could be somthing that could be thrown away with the trash but we choose to rescue?

I have a small stash of old windows that I've picked up over the years from stuff set out for junk pickup. My plan is to use them to build a greenhouse out of them.

I am so excited that so many will be joining. As far as I know, for those who asked, there is no limit to how many henhouses you can join. But, you might want to run that by Sunny. I don't know the official rules!

Bonnie, I love the grater idea and was actually thinking of doing them on my wall (rather than on the column) for art supplies, etc.

I am dealing with a sinus infection (AGAIN!!! Ugh!) but hope to be able to start my silly junk arbor soon. For the garden that has yet to be created . . .

Can't wait to see all the creative ventures!!

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Hi Brenda,

I am new to the sisterhood and Sunny has my picks and yours was one of them. My Mom actually got me started with junkin and I thought she was crazy until we saw what good stuff she was bringing home. lol
Now, when we go out garage saling we also look for freebies. She looks for stuff I might need or use and either picks it up or tells my husband and the heavy stuff he goes and gets after work. I love to make garden ornaments so I will share some of my creations with you once I'm signed in by Sunny! Also, lookin forward to all your great ideas too!
Can't wait to share,
Marjean

Bonnie, I just read the September issue of Country Home last evening --- and was quite smitten with the grater idea.

How wonderful to hear a fellow farm girl submitted the idea.

You have a unique, creative talent. Your idea will be put to use by many others in the next few weeks for sure.

Thanks for the tip about the site Junkmarketstyle.com.

Well, I've decided that I'm getting some. I will keep some in my barn just in case I get a visit from a "sista"! I'll probably get upwards to 50 of 'em. What would YOU do with one??

Ditto for me and the pane/pain....ouch Karen! It's just as well though....if you saw my house you would know I can't fit anymore in here or it's going to explode! That's why I have to find a use and/or re-purpose this stuff AND have a big sale too. This is going to be great though!

Hey all. I just thought I'd pass this along. Shipping would be pretty tricky but for those of you close by i just cam into the mother load of old windows. We are getting ou house re-sided and met with the contractor the other day and in his barn is about 300 old windows. There are 3 on 3's, 6 oon 6's, and cathedral style with sloping tops. Get this, he said if i take them ALL I could have them dirt cheap! Some are pretty big. If you can make it to my house and pick them up, I will get some. they are $5.00 EACH ladies.... the cathedral style ones are $25. I am not making any money off this, just passing the deal onto my sisters! Wow, think of all the things we could do with old windows... make garden cloches, make terraniums, small green houses, stained glass, window boxes....I have ideas coming out my ears!

Brenda,

I too would like to join this chapter. For FYI-back in November of 07', I joined the Junkmarketstyle.com junksite. At the time it cost $25.00 for the year to join. Ki and Sue (from Country Home fame)and junk authors of 2 books started the site. It's all been revamped. Ki is starting another business venture under Junk Revolution and Sue has maintained this site. It's now free and a great source for inspiration. Not to toot my own horn because my grandmother used to say, "Self-praise stinks," but under this junksite, the gals had different contests. I was one of three winners to have our junk ideas used as the inspiration for three entries in Country Home Magazine-Sept. issue, page 49. (My idea is the middle one-using old graters) I also had a second idea used on thier website. (Converting an old medicine cabinet into a show place for treasures) You gals will find alot of creative, friendly, and generous people on this site who are more than willing to share.

I belong to another virtual chapter but I think we can join another also.
Please add me...I need ideas and inspiration. I see stuff I love at Salvation Army that's pretty junky..LOL For some reason I like it but don't know what to do with it.

I'm sitting here, just waiting until I can get in the hen house. I have three old windows and a wooden folding chair that I picked up next to a dumpster that I'm dying to do something with.
