HONEY HUNK and i decided to run away for the night cuz' kathy was knee-deep in paint on our floors .. and told us we wouldn't be able to get to either the kitchen or the bathroom .. sooooo .. it took us a milli-second to decide to head for BEREA. I hit my fav antiques shoppe while hank lounged in a book store .. then a yummy dinner in town .. then we headed for a sweet little 'lodge' B&B about 15 miles out of town. We practically had the place to ourselves .. it was tucked back into the woods on 40 acres of country rolling hills.

After a SUMPTUOUS breakfast of bacon and sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, oj and hot steamin' coffee .. we headed back to Berea .. where i hit a couple more shoppes .. then decided to wind our way over to the big Route 127 yard sale. (i went to this a couple years ago and HATED it! TOOOOOOOOOOOOO much pure JUNK to wander through .. and hot as hadez! but i was hoping to find a wonderful primitive cupboard (have a specific design in mind!!) .. but HA! in the twenty mile stretch we shopped .. it was de ja vu!!! Same 'ole crappy stuff i saw last year .. i swear .. i throw better stuff away!

Now .. i'm sure there may be some 'jewels' amongst all that mess .. but i know i don't have the patience or desire to go through it all to find one!

Only stopped three places and was extremely disappointed each time .. had my eyes scanning for primitives!! last stop we made .. i looked up and saw a WONDERFUL booth .. ran to it .. and LAUGHED OUT LOUD .. it was my friend, Charlene from Glvoers' Station! Her things were wonderful ... but alas and alack .. no cupboard like i'm looking for!

Next week .. i'm heading to Illinois to Darlene's place with friend Kathy Sugarbucket for a coupla' days! (their place is being featured in the next issue of Mercantile Gatherings Magazine). Darlene has wonderful early furniture .. mayhaps she will have the perfect cupboard i'm looking for.

I've had such fun re-configuring where furniture is going to go with my new painted walls and floors!

AND OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!! i adore and love the floor colors SO MUCH MORE than the shabby chic white and yellow that they were!!! So 'earthy' now!!! So much more befitting a 'log cabin' i do believe!

Gonna' wait a day or two more with these heaps and piles of treasures before moving furniture back on the floors .. wanna' give 'em a day or two more to 'cure'.

Well, kiddos .. hope ya'll have been havin' a coupla' fun days and i wish you a sunny (but cool) Sunday! xo

Star .. i'm surprized the B&B didn't warn us that we needed to be 'pet friendly' .. cuz' lordy .. we had several cats and two olde dogs constantly runnin' into our room when we didn't shut the door fast enough .. they sat right beside us while we ate. we do love dogs (but i don't like 'em beggin' at the table though! i think that is one of the very first things i taught our olde englishes ... NO BEGGING or BUGGING when we are sitting at the dining room table .. and i NEVER let them near the food table when we have guests. some people are indeed allergic or simply don't like cat or dog hair with their potatoes! cats ... i like 'outdoor' cats .. don't even mind if they are indoors .. but can't stand cat-boxes!!! we've had cats and dogs and all manner of critters the entire time our kids were growing up .. daughter kristen has a dog and a cat .. daughter wednesday has two cats .. but i banished them to the garage (made them a nice little 'corner' out there) when i last went to visit.

xo

Oh I don't mind a dog or two but cats? I start sneezin and wheezin! My eyes swell (NOT pretty to look at) and have had to stop by the ER for a shot in the past. I just avoid the little furballs. Funny though, I had a cat when I was a kid. The dog we have now makes me sneezle too. (Last one didn't) I tried shots, no dice. So when he's sheddy the most, I take OTC allergy meds. Allergy doc told me to get rid of the dog. HA! I think my family would rather have me live out back in a trailer than lose this dog....

Frannie, I am so glad you had a fun outing with Honey Hunk. I missed you on the board and thought...bet that Frannie is doing the 127 Sale.
I havent been in a few years either...last time I went...like you,I thought, I have better stuff than this at home. I did find a 2 gal. crock that I use a lot. I do wish I could find another one maybe that size or a little larger. I really need a kitchen cuboard also...only thing... my space for one is not real big, so, I need a smaller one.
Hubby is going racing this p.m. and thought about heading down to about Albany and rummage through the "stuff" but decided didnt think it would be worth it. Rather wait and ck out Glovers Station when I am in Greensbrug.

i remember fondly when we lived in the mountains of colorado .. no one even turned their heads at people bringing their dogs into mountain restaurants to sit by them during a meal!

well, i have been known to go to all the way to berea and hit only ONE shoppe .. an antiques shoppe!!! it's called something like "now and then" (but i think that's even a little off). it's on the road that leads up to Boone's Tavern .. i have a few favorite dealer friends in there who carry 'primitives'.

I actually only bought TWO things .. one is a tin 'pot lid' .. the other was a 'paper' feedsack from GREENSBURG, KENTUCKY (my home town). had they been CLOTH .. i would have bought them all!!! i find that i have sooooooooooo much great stuff right here in my own home that i just can't find a spot for .. i ask myself: WHY would i even consider buying something 'lesser' than i am getting rid of in my new 'simplifying' stage of life right now? i did go looking (and will continue to) .. for 'just the perfect' cupboard to hold our microwave and kitchen tv .. and for four WONDERFUL .. absolutely PERFECT chairs for our kitchen table. i did bop in and out of all the artisan shoppes i could .. looking for two fantastic wine 'pottery' wine glasses and two very tall pottery iced tea glasses. (didn't find either that i loved) .. AND .. always, always, i stop at the book store ... ohhhh .. i did find a two dollar cook book called "my old kentucky homes" .. it featured beautiful olde kentucky mansions and recipes from them.

yessss .. hank has hiked Anglin Falls (i think that is it .. i think it is on route 21 or 121 .. it was on the way to our country inn we stayed in.

ohhhhhhhhh .. look at this cute phot of one of the resident 'cats' sitting by our morning coffee pot! HA! this kitty woulda' been arrested by the health department in most states!

What was your favorite shop in Berea??? I love Hot Flash Beads! I love the Honeysuckle Vine also. I usually find a little something there. Seems like prices have gone way up though! Oh and on the Berea website http://www.berea.com , under free things to do, Hike Anglin Falls... that's us! My husband's mother was an Anglin! I've been back to those falls. Whew! It is a hike! On the way home, I like to run in to the Artesian Center to see if they have hush puppies and score a little box of pulled candy...yum! So, take the back way to Renfro Valley and voila', you are practically in Mt. Vernon!

So, tell me what you picked up in Berea?!!
