There is a big mess brewing over in the "community" where we have our cabin. One neighbor is being judged, very harshly and without cause in my opinion. I would like to read what the Bible has to say about judging your fellow man, but I am a fledgling with the Bible and I'm not sure where to look. Can any of you help?

sherri dear .. i know your heart is in the right place too .. and i know that you will find all the right answers for your involvement or non-involvement .. do what your inner voice tells you is right and what makes YOU feel good about what your choices are in siding and not siding .. supporting or not supporting in this issue.

if you are new to reading or understanding the bible ... perhaps there is a caring preacher or someone in a church that has your beliefs that you trust .. or someone you respect that can recommend someone to talk to about the scriptures to help you understand biblical teachings in the bible. i know you will find the answers you need. xo

Sherri, it's clear your heart is in the right place. What a shame that a few people seem bent on promoting disharmony. I sure hope this works out best for everyone and that you'll find the guidance and peace you seek.

That's what I have tried to do Mara. The reason I wanted to refer to scripture - not so I could use it as a weapon, but to more fully understand in my own mind, why I felt compelled to stay neutral. And I have sent prayers heavenward for all involved. I tried to stay completely out of it, but one of the neighbors called me and asked me to sign a petition against another neighbor, and said she was asked to do so by the community. Of course, we aren't going to do that, but I'm trying to understand the whole situation better by referring to scripture. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this - please know I'm not trying to condemn anyone or judge anyone, just use the Bible for my own understanding of the situation.

It seems to me the most Christian thing to do in a community situation like this is to behave lovingly toward all involved, equally, and pray for increased insight and compassion for everyone in the group, including yourself. I'm not a Christian, but that's how I understand the teachings of Jesus and it's what I'd recommend to any group of people drawn together by a philosophy of mutual caring. You could all consult the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew, Chapters 5 through 7 for a good refresher course in how to be part of such a community. Maybe you could suggest it -- with no ulterior motive of course -- as a topic for group discussion sometime soon. I wish you well in working through this difficult period in your community's development, and hope you'll all be better for the experience.

Your right Frannie, it is not a wise to choice to take up offenses for another but I think it is always good when something happens to cause us to check things out with Scripture.

"very harshly and without cause in my opinion"

sherri, honey (my two cents worth: .. and HA! that may well be just what it is worth!) .. be cautious about 'judgement of a neighbor by others' .. cuz' ... when we think someone 'else' is judging .. and have too strong an opinion about their thoughts in a matter ... .isn't that some form of judgement too?

the good book tells us to 'judge not .. that we be not judged' .. maybe a quiet prayer sent heavenward might be a good way to deal with the issue.

this is surely not to say that i believe in being a 'lay-down' in matters of utmost importance to us .. i just know that sometimes we can find ourselves becoming angry at someone else's ideas or opinions if they don't fit into our mold .. and doing the very thing we find wrong in them.

of course, i have no idea the full story .. or all the facts above .. it's just that i personally truly believe that when we sometimes try to back-up our opinons or beliefs with scripture .. it jus' ain't what god had in mind. xo
