I have cked in today several times, so many interesting topics, and from so many different ladies - this is what makes this interesting, havent really had time to post but I have enjoyed reading what all the others have had to say

Lainey we have a bumper crop of apples to, but the yellow trees have the cedar apple rust so they wont do very well, I keep telling Sterl to pull them out all they do when that happens is fall on the ground and gather flies and bees, Do you can your pears

Mmmm peaches, cant wait! We only had a few peaches this year, but it's a bumper crop of pears here now. We didn't have any pears last year due to the late frosts so this year is making up for it. We have lots of apples too although we lost one of our larger apple trees last month.

Hmmmm eating till I explode I have to say those peaches sound heavenly. Hey if I explode I can't eat more, will have to get to just about exploding and stop.....lol

Lisa we had problems with tomatoes and peppers after I pulled the first peppers off I had no more , then the tomatoes got something that looks like blight, I thought I had enough green beans for the the neighborhood but they arent producing much I am only going to get about 50 qts off of 5 long rows. Next time I will go by the calender

The peaches weren't ready when I was at Wilma's last, but all the other fruit was :) I sure love those cherries, and those plums. Oh my....
My tomatoes have met their first match--I went out this evening, and SOMEONE (something) has taken huge bites out of the red ones...just the red, not green. So, looks like I'll be putting up some chicken wire this weekend. Until then, I'll have to try to get them before IT does :) We are getting green beans and oxheart carrots now, and tomorrow night I think I'll make a roast.
Miss Wilma, I'll take some peaches if you have any (canned) to share....I'll pay you for your troubles!!!

I wish peach trees grew here :(
I have been a bit busy with zucchini and pickles. My peas are still producing, believe it or not! I have new pea plants started in the kitchen and no where to plant them yet. I'm eating the broccoli as fast as it comes out of the garden; so nothing to do there! That's all that's coming out of the garden right now. I'm hoping to get melons, corn, carrots and pumpkins early next month. Tomatoes and peppers appear to be a lost cause. Even though the plants look extremely healthy, they only just started blooming the past 2 weeks. I think it's too late, though I will cover them and prolong the season as long as I can.

I have been trying to get the garden all worked up am finishing the last bushel of beans , and go get the peaches as they ripen, Girls I wish all of you had some of these peaches, we didnt have any last year but have a bumper crop this time, any of you girls that can plant a tree get you two Georgia Bell trees they are white and sweeter than honey.Ronna on the apple butter it is so easy, I dont have a recipe but will be glad to tell you how to do it

You still up to your elbows in peaches? I had two peaches on my tree this year and the birds got both. No cherries either, darn it. Apples are looking good though, so maybe I'll need your apple butter recipe so I can make some too. |
