I was pleasantly surprised while reading one of the posts under Farm Kitchen that two of the farmgirls are members of the Order of the Eastern Star. Yours truly makes three, although I have been inactive for many years.
I grew up in a Masonic family and also went through the officer line within Job's Daughters. In one 24 month period my family almost had the whole Lodge in our town wrapped up. My Dad was Master of the Masonic Lodge, immediately followed by being Worthy Patron alongside my Mom as Worthy Matron of the OES, and during the last half of their term, I was Honored Queen of the Job's Daughters. Alas, there were four girls in our family, no boys or we would have been working on the DeMolay's too!
So, I wonder, how many farmgirls are also involved in Masonic organizations?

Yes, Rainbow Girls does still exist. My daughter was a member for a couple of years.

Many years ago....1967....I became initiated into an organization called 'Rainbow Girls'. My sister belonged also, and my mother belonged to the 'Eastern Stars'. My father was a member of the Masons, only by paying the yearly dues, though. He never attended the meetings. lol... I remember having to do a lot of memorizing, and each color of the rainbow had a function or meaning. I really don't remember too much about it, though. My membership lasted about two years. It was a very secretive organization. I don't know if Rainbow Girls exist today.

I had a hunch that several farmgirls had some Masonic affiliation. It was a wonderful memory for me and definitely kept me out of trouble in those teenage years! I keep my OES membership in hopes that I might become involved in a Chapter after we move...

Lillian, I can totally relate to your situation. Our Chapter has the largest membership in the state of Nebraska. That being said we only see about the same 25-32 members at our meetings. Most of past officers have gone through the line twice now.

I was a Jobie from 11-18. It was lots of fun and hard work. I still remember some of the passages and the 5th Messenger initiation bit. 5th Messenger was my favorite. :D

Christina- I too am the Associate Conductress this year. Our chapter is really struggling for members, so I jumped into the line this year.

Yep, I was a Job's daughter and enjoyed it at the time. I supect that I was in it for the "boys" version (I forget what they were called) But we had dances and social activities with the guys. Poor excuse for joining I'm afraid! |

I think that this is my 5th year in the OES. This year I actually went online as Associate Conductress! My grandmother was just thrilled. I was in Job's for a short while but sadly my home life didn't really allow me enough freedom to be very active.

Hi Jo- Yes, I am a member of OES. My Husband is the Master at his lodge this year. I am still fairly new to the organization-about 3 years. I have met a lot of great people through OES and plan to meet many more!
