My day started this morning at quarter to six when dh, who was on his way back to his first day at work in three weeks, called and sort of gasped "I'm going to the hospital in Tacoma - I'm having some sort of attack - I can't breath, and the pain is unbearable." Then he hung up. I called him back, it sounded like someone picked up, then hung up. I called twice more, just to have it go to voice mail. I had no idea where he was - Tacoma stretches along for miles along the freeway, or which hospital he was heading for. I didn't know if he was still on I-5, or if he had taken an exit or ANYTHING!! I called my daughter and she said to call 9-1-1 and tell them about the call, so I did. First, I got Grays Harbor county 911 where we live, so they said they'd transfer me to Pierce county (Tacoma area) and when someone answered I spilled my whole story again, and she said, "Well, M'am we'll try to get him some help, but I don't understand why you were transferred to Buckley." Buckley is quite a ways from Tacoma, and not along I-5 at all. So, she transferred me to the State Patrol who said all they could do was give me the names and numbers of the hospitals in Tacoma. So, I started calling them, and by the second one, I had found him - he was in the ER - I couldn't talk to him because he was being examined. I drove on up there - about an hour and a half because it was rush hour - and when I got there, they thought he had a kidney stone. He was in excruciating pain in his lower back and it radiated around to his abdomen. He had three shots of pain killer before it touched it and boy was he out of it! They did a cat-scan which showed he does NOT have a kidney stone, but something going on with his intestine and colon. Anyway, he has to go have a colonostomy now. He is down off his pain meds and still feels pretty good - but boy did he give me a fright this morning!! And I had no idea that the emergency operators juggled and bounced you around like that. That's scary!! Please keep dh in your thoughts and prayers - I'd like to keep him around a little longer!! Thank goodness it didn't happen while I was in Montana or Wyoming. I would have freaked out - not being here when something like that happened!

ohhh .. sherri .. ALSO .. it turned out that i was put in a room with a woman who was in the 'witness protection program' (state .. not federal) .. she had witnessed her boyfriend KILL someone (after he shot her) ... and was going to testify against him in court. she had a 24-hour guard .. one by her bed .. the other outside the door.

AND .. MY bed was between the door and HER bed! if you think i didn't rant and rave and bawl t'il they MOVED me .. but that was one very scary night for me .. scarier even than the mystery pain in my gut! xo

p.s. for the LIFE of me .. i have NEVER understood why the state of Maryland put anyone in the same room with a witness to a crime! xo

OH SHERRI SWEETIE .. i'm so sorry you had to go through that awful scare .. and sorry that your honeyman had such pain.

it is so strange the stuff that can sometimes happen to our bodies. i actually went through something very similar .. ended up in the hospital for a few days with it. they thought it was my gallbladder .. turns out .. they NEVER did find the cause! and that was about 30 years ago ..never came back again! i'm hoping this is all your sweet husband had too! prayers goin' heavenward for him .. AND you! xo

Oh my gosh Sherri! The first thing I thought of when I read that was "Heart Attack!" I am so glad the operators listened to you and got you the information you needed. I am so glad it happened (if it had to, I mean) while you were back home! *hugs* I hope it turns out to be nothing serious!

Wow! I know what you mean about those scares too. When my dh and I were VERY new, we were living on opposite sides of the state. I would drive home on weekends to be with him. I got in one afternoon after a 3 hour drive to find our front door open, no dh, and blood from one end of the kitchen to the front door!! His shoes were by the door but the car was in the drive. Talk about a panic! Luckily, we only have one hospital near and at that time, no ready-care spots. He had been washing dishes (wish he still did that....) and broke a glass, slicing through the meaty part of his hand by his thumb. What a mess! Several stitches later, we were both home (neighbor had driven him in). I'll tell ya, my heart was in my toes! I hope all is well with your man and he just needs a few prunes. (been there...took me a week in the hospital on liquids/jello to get it all, ummmm, straightened out..shall we say...) Take care.

I'm sending prayers out to you and your family and hope all things will be okay. Could it be gallstone? Gall bladder? They can be very painful also. Again, prayers and good wishes to you and yours.
