I jus' got offa' the phone with one'a my very bes' gal pal in Maryland .. and she and several other of my precious dollie frenz are going to join us here for our Kentucky Gurlfren Gathering!!!!
AND .. Cyndi .. who is one of the most talented 'folk artists' in the country .. is coming and on Saturday at Luna's place .. will demonstrate how to make an adorable 'twiggy pumpkin tree'. AND .. for the kids that will be here on Sunday .. and if you wish to MAKE one of these .. she will bring kits and teach you how!
WARNING .. you better bring your DEPENDS .. cuz' Cyndi will have you wettin' your underoos whilst she 'regales' you with tales of her life! I have actaully seen (and been) grown women CRY from laughing so hard as Cyndi 'spins a yarn'! You will travel back in time to her youth and teen years .. and oh my yessss .. she still continues to have FUN FUN FUN in this thing called life!
I miss my dollie gurlfrenz .. i have made forever memories with them .. and they will be in my heart even after i take my last breath on this earth!
There will be a 'materials' fee for both Kathy's class and Cindy's class .. and Jo's class. will let ya'll know how much and will post pictures of these projects soon's they get this info to me!
there will be a 'cut-off' deadline to sign up for these classes .. cuz' they have to know how many kits to make. (i'll post all that info soon too!)
Pat .. who is from Australia .. is the cutest, tiniest little angel-pie .. she amazes me! She is a teacher during the school year .. and in addtion to being a mom and grammie .. wife and very creative .. she TRAVELS all over the world most of the summer! She has great stories to share.
Mary .. who is also one of the most talented women i've met .. and has an 'olde soul' .. she is one of the 'wise women' who have been here before! well, she has made costumes for the broadway play: CATS!!! (she designs and makes wonderfully funky clothing .. i love her spirit .. and her!
Jeanne .. who is also a sweet dolly club girlfriend .. i loved watching her begin by making her first dolly to becoming a very accomplished artist and dollmaker .. AND OHHHH .. i have a great story to tell ya'll about when Jeannie and i travelled to SHAKERTOWN, Kentucky to take attend a week-long Primitive Rug Hooking Camp .. we stayed at Shakertown and were visited by GHOSTS in our room.. (only Jeannie slept through it all!) ohhhh .. there is more to the story .. ya' gotta' come to hear and giggle! Jeannie is a sweetheart!

JO GUMMERE .. i've written of Jo already ... soooo .. you know she is a doll and teddybear .. and artist extraordinairre!!! Jo is one of those 'angels' god sends to earth to teach us .. it is no wonder that her pattern company was called: ANGELS AMONG US. You will adore her! All the dolly gurlz coming from Maryland have taken classes with Jo .. sooo .. this will be a wonderful reunion for them too!
AND .. i KNOW .. THEY ARE ALL GOING TO ADORE MY KENTUCKY AND FARMGIRL GURLFRENZ!!!!! (i sure do!!!!!!!!)

What a fun time of laughter and memories at Frannieville  The food at Kathy and Luna's were just wonderful, esp that Harvest Stew (a MJF recipe that Alan (Luna's beau) cooked up)....I fell in LOVE with her sheep farm...the tables how they were set up were like they were taken from a magazine article...the felting and spinning lesson was so fun too Kathy's home was also lovely and a great class there too as well as our 'athletic' cast iron pan fling....and delicious desserts and soups.....yummy! |

about 25 of us met in my wonderful GREENSBURG at Glovers' Station .. at about 8:00 a.m. (slow time) for some fun shopping .. and a tour of our town .. including a wonderful program presented at our Olde Courthouse by sweet Nan Montgomery .. then a 'walk-about' on our Courthouse Square .. (will write all about it and show pictures soon!) .. then to City Hall for a visit with our esteemed (and DARLING Mayor!) .. and a drive-by past the fabulously beautiful "ACADEMY" (where i was given a new name for the weekend (rhymes with WITCH .. HA! only with a "B"!) will tell the 'story of it' soon!
then on to SUGARBUCKET's and LUNA's .. where we were joined by about 10 or 15 more friends! What a JOYOUS time!!

words simply cannot express the depths of my joy at our gurlfren gathering this weekend!
i will be writing stories and sharing photos soon ...
for those of you who were a part of this awesome weekend .. if you have any photos or stories to share of your time with us ... pleeeeeeeeeze send them along to me with your permission to share them with all our 'frenz'.
AND .. REMEMBER OUR PACT!!! 'no ugly pictures'!!!! (ha! we promised each other we'd look at each photo and if ANY of us don't look like glamerous movie stars in a photo .. we will tear it into a million pieces and burn it!
(we were concerned this might limit the 400 photos we each took down to two or three actual 'useable' ones though!)
share your giggles, your creativity, your laughter .. your tears .. anything you wish .. and oh do send me YOUR photos!
t'other friends who were not able to join us this time .. THINK SPRING! we might gather and all go to historic SHAKER TOWN come springtime! and yes! we will all stay at Freedom Valley Farm for more fun and frolic! (we'll wait for spring weather so that we can all 'camp-out' again!)
and i do hope that each and every one of you who were able to be a part of our weekend will come back in the spring too .. i'm already missing YOU!!!!

Miz Frannie and girls...cannot wait till tomorrow morning.....will be down there between 10 and 11 :-) Just got done packing my overnite bag except for a few things.....jus' bringing some fabric and little dodads for the little trunk sale. Wish I could join ya's (who are going that is) for tonight's get together...but doing just tomorrow and Sunday morning will be great too. Can't wait to meet ya's that I have not met yet, like Karin from GA and the ya's that I have allready met at the last gatherin' (Joy, Luna, Glo and Robin). I spoke w/ Luna briefly this morning :-)

My sister is here, we are going through our lists to make sure we have everything we need, the tent is down from the attic and my hubs has given us both instruction on how to set it up. I'm putting together a few things and will be heading for a good night's sleep (hopefully) by ten. Oh, wait! I sill need to make the apple crisp! Well, eleven then. :)

Hey Gurlfrenz,
Not sure if I will be back on the computer before I see you all on Saturday morning, if I dont, you all have safe travels and will see you on Saturday. I will be in Greensburg on Friday night and may spend the night with my daughter. If she is on call and it comes to spending the night in a barn on a farm call I may choose to head on out to Frannies and bunk down with Cabin and Creek or just anywhere to lay head. We are going to have so much fun! See you girls soon!

OH YAY! I DID ALL MY GROCERY SHOPPING TODAY! TOMORROW I WILL HANG OUT AND SHAKE CRUMBS FROM THE SHEETS AND SWEEP DIRT UNDER THE CARPETS (OH NOOOO!!! i don't have carpets!) ... and hang out and wait for you kids to start arriving.
this really hasn't been 'work' at all .. i've gathered gurlfrenz like this for about 15 years .. and i swanee ..it is ALL PLAY! i adore when gurlz come ... we are all like family .. everyone pitchin' in and just enjoying each other's company. NOW .. i know that my gurlfren 'teachers' have been hard at work pulling together wonderful 'kits' .. and that dear kathy and luna for preparing food ... for which i will be eternally grateful!!! AND .. they will find an extra diamond in their heavenly crown!! i also so appreciate the dear friends who have bought plane tickets and put lots of gasoline in their cars to come such a long distance .. i promise it will all be worth every penny!!!
cuz' friendship and fun is PRICELESS!!!!

oh gurlz .. I was checking the airline schedule for betty jo and my dolly friends from maryland .. the last plane comes in about 2:30 .. build in some time to get luggage .. give hugs .. and get back home ..

Frannie....I looked through my bookshelf in my sewing room and actually found the booklets from the year I went to We Folk of Cloth!!! I was surprised I still had them!!! It was 1998!...... and I do not see Jo Gummere's name listed so I guess she was not there that year. Goodness...... it has been quite some time ago!

Frannie- Dayna and I are ready with our items for the weaving, something for autographs, the tent, mattresses, chairs, quilts, pillows, flashlights, lanterns, things to set up a little "bath" in the second room of the tent (can't go without wahing up and washing my hair!), etc. Plus our things for the trunk show, food to share, recipes. Let's see, have I forgotten anything? ha ha
I got an e-mail from Jill Cooper the other day and I told her I was going to yours and she said, and I quote, "Give Frannie a big hug from me. I am so jealous!" So, I will. :)

GURLFRENZ GATHERING
OCTOBER 11/12
(SATURDAY AND SUNDAY)
you are invited to join about 30-some gurlfrenz from Kentucky and several other states .. including a smattering of my dear dolly friends from maryland ... for a fun-filled weekend!!! this will be a wonderful combination of CITY and COUNTRY gurlfrenz!
Saturday 10/11 .. we will meet at 9:00 a.m. (EASTERN TIME) at Glovers’ Station Antiques Mall in Greensburg! We'll do a little antiquing .. then .. we'll cross the street to our HISTORIC olde Courthouse (oldesest west of the Allegheny Mountains!) where my very knowledgeable friend, Nan Montgomery will tell us all about the history of Green County .. then we'll amble down to our beautiful Circle of Friends Gardens .. and the fabulous paintings around our 'water tower' .. cross our historic 'foot bridge' to the Olde Train Depot'. THEN .. our wonderful MAYOR has told me he wants to meet you all .. soooo .. we'll go up to City Hall and be greeted by Mayor Cheatham .. and i do want you all to meet his hard-working' right hand WOMAN, Judy Weatherholt too! (They have already given me a copy of our new Green County Guide for each of you!
Then .. we'll ohhh and ahhh over our new Arts Center that is in process of being created in another wonderful olde historic building .. and see yet another fabulous painting all across the huge building by the same artist (Trina Corbin) who did the 'water tower' paintings!
By 11:00 a.m. (EASTERN) .. we will all car-pool about 45 minutes away to Rhineyville to visit KATHY SUGARBUCKET .. and her beautiful home and antique log cabin antiques shoppe. We will stop on the way and everyone will purchase a meal for a picnic lunch at Kathy’s. (Kathy is also preparing some yummy soups and desserts for us too!) We will have some fun and games and prizes while at Kathy’s .. (Frying Pan Fling and Pumpkin Bowling!) AND .. she is going to teach a class to us .. a beautiful Autumn Garland.
ALL CLASSES are $10. each for supplies. No teacher fees are being charged. These precious women are giving this to us all as a gift! AND .. you will take home high-quality hand-dids worth WELL OVER what the supplies cost. I have SUCH talented gurlfrenz who have kindly offered to share their knowledge with everyone.
THEN .. we will travel about 7 miles away to friend LUNA’s wonderful SHEEP FARM!
Luna will present a program for us called “From Sheep to Shawl” … she will demonstrate ‘drop spindle spinning’ to all that wish to learn .. AND . .her ‘class’ that she will teach is an adorable orange wool felted ‘pumpkin’!!! Be sure to bring a little wisp of yarn, fabric, jewels, etc. for our Gurlfren Gathering Tapestry that Luna is going to weave!
More fun games and prizes! ALSO .. a fun ‘trunk show’ (bring your hand-dids and antiques to sell and swap!!) AND .. Luna is preparing a yummy dinner for us .. $5.00 donations each will be appreciated towards the cost of the food! (you can even give TEN if you wish .. WELL WORTH IT!)
Weather permitting, we'll have a bon-fire and roast 'S''mores'! BE SURE to bring a copy of your mos' favorite saying, proverb, poem or limerick to share with everyone around the firepit!
THEN .. we’ll head back to Freedom Valley Farm in Green County .. for a ‘camp-out’!!
Bring a tent or cot and BLANKETS .. and a flashlight!
We can have another ‘camp-fire’ for the late night gurlfrenz .. or stay up and talk all night .. or fall into a blissful sleep for the night!
Up bright and early on Sunday, 10/12 .. we’ll do some yoga if you wanna’ .. or take a walk together in the woods! We’ll ALL make a yummy breakfast together ... hopefully in the FIREPIT!!!
THEN .. Cyndi Rowe .. my talented folk artist gal pal from Maryland .. is going to teach an ADORABLE ‘Twiggy Pumpkin Tree’ class!
AND .. incredible doll-maker and designer, Jo Gummere from North Carolina .. will teach adorable DOLLS made from big olde spool bobbins with vintage fabrics!
I’ll conjure up some ‘sammies and burnt cookies’ for lunch! (gonna' make my speciality 'chicken/apple/celery/raisins/pecan SALAD ... and 'every fruit under the sun SALAD' .. with 'croissants' (aren't we jus' FANCY NANCY!) actually, i'm trying to make this a 'healthy-choice' weekend rather than the high fat and sugar country meals that we get so much of here.

GOOD RAINY WEDNESDAY GURLFRENZ! oh what a lovely rain we are having outside .. i'm on my way now to the 'tree house' with a cup of coffee with frothy cream and one of my new books i got last night. there is NOTHING as soothing as the sound of rain on a tin roof.

FROM LUNA TO ME:
I got a Journey Loom from a friend at the KY Wool Fest. It is a ritual loom for a communally woven tapestry . Everyone is invited to bring a small amount of your favorite yarn or fiber, grasses, special stones, crystals , beads or other small object to incorporate into our weaving. We could do this after dinner near the fire as part of the poetry reading or story telling.
