I don't do this very often but today, I decided to drive around for some garage sales..and look what I got!

2 Victorian Ladies (dolls, 1 w/stand)
a book on making country dolls
3 blue Ball jars w/old metal lids
2 clear glass bread pans
4 plastic boxes for beads
an old drawer (to hold my fat quarters)
an old yellow rose plate (for the wall)
a wooden tray
an old red/white serving bowl
2 pomander china birds
and a HUGE box of craft patterns! (and I mean HUGE!)
Oh, and I also picked up a copy of Julius Caesar and a lightweight jacket for my friend's little girl (not in the pic). I spent 17$ for the lot! (Of course there's that 1/4 tank of gas to be dealt with too I guess) I still have my eye on this wonderful desk but I need to find just the right place for it and convince my hubby that I "need" it!

Ok Melanie...I guess I don't know what I have w/the blue jars. This woman had quite a few, all with the metal lids for 1$ each. She had some big ones too and several filled with old buttons for 3$ each. She also had a basket full of metal lids just like the ones on my jars for .50 cents each (may have been .75) I liked the button idea. I have a big box-o-buttons in my basement that came out of my grandma's so I thought I'd haul them out and put them in the jars.

WOW!! You did great!! I found 2 old blue ball jars with medal lids too. I wound up paying $3 a piece for mine. But the guy is going to see if he can find me a vintage quart size mason jar in the next couple of weeks. He told me they're really hard to find with the lids, but I gotta have the lid. Leave it me to be a pain in the rumpus.

I really like the yellow rose plate too! roses are one my favorite flowers.

oh chile .. what fun treasures you got .. my fav are the two little dollies!!

i used to especially love the yard sales when we lived in DENVER, Colorado .. hundreds of wonderful olde turn of the century homes .. and sometimes i would find treasures that were brought there from 'back east' on wagon trains.

actually, one of my mos' fav things that pops into my mind is a little white enamel 'sunbonnet' girls child's eating tray ... i'll take a picture and share the 'story of it'.

what patterns did you get? any JO GUMMERE???? .. or SHARI LUTZ .. or NICOLE SAYRE ????

Miss Wilma, here is my plate. I paid $2 for it. I got it just because of the yellow roses (my MIL's fav flower)

I intend to hang it on the wall. Interestingly enough, there is a hole through the back rim as if it was meant to do that. I will use a regular plate hanger though. The painting of the roses is signed "Guyeuu" and on the back is a large S sitting between to cockeyed T's with a star at the base (and of course it says China)... It is 9 1/4" across.

The bowl, I think, is new but "looks" old. I paid 1$ for that. The back tells me it's safe for all the modern kitchen technologies and it's from Korea (hence the "new")... Doesn't matter, I still really like it. This might just become Mom's Popcorn Bowl! (and occasionally hold mashed potatoes or salad for the dinner table)

Oh my.. I got some goodies today too.. At one I met a gal who is a farm gal!Nylene showed me around her homestead.. I met one of her sons.. I walked away with a Christmasy quilt, a stack of country home magazines, a ME garden book, a couple of John Robbins books, and my treasure. A case to hang on the wall- it has 3 sides- glass with a door in the middle with 2 shelves inside. I reminds me of my mil's china cabinet but smaller- and on the wall so the boys can't break it! :-) Nylene if you make it back to us (she hasn't been on here in a long while) thank you for your hospitality.. I look forward to having your sons build me some bird houses and meeting up with you again! At another garage sale I got a couple of vintage framed pictures for the wall, a beautiful delicate bowl handmade in Austria- it is soooo lovely and for $1! I also got a little itty bitty wooden plaque that has Davinci's Head of Christ on it.. It is lovely.. for .50!
I also found a very nice jogger stroller so I can start walking with the wee one when we get moved. We have paved roads at the new house- easier for me to walk on.

Blessings, Debra

Treasure galore! It is such fun to have a gander at the yard sales every now and then. My daughter and I stopped at a church rummage sale yesterday, but we found no treasure until we hit the food table, homemade peanut butter fudge and Boston brown bread. I remember going to a few rummage sales as a kid, and they were so amazing to me. My mother used to tease me about my first rummage sale purchase. I was seven or eight and I came sstaggering home ( the church was about a mile from our house) wearing a raccoon coat that I had blown my entire 50 cent budget on. Whoops, sorry, blathering again...
