Posted - Aug 01 2008 : 07:31:51 AM Your hot summer days give us another month of summer beauty. Another month in our growing season. Your cool nights remind us that fall is on it's way. Our gardens start to ripen their fruits in anticipation of the fall's harvest before winter's blast.
The day light is rich and golden but slowly fading to a lighter hue through the month to become the weaker sunshine of fall and winter. Green leaves slowly start to loose their luster and by the end of the month we might even see the first turning brilliant shades of red, orange or golden.
School Bells ring. New pencils are sharpened, pink erasers smudged, caps to pens lost. Library books are checked out and notebook paper written in. New sneakers will squeak in the hallways and perhaps the first snow might fall on the highest mountain peak.
Welcome August!

Posted - Aug 01 2008 : 2:01:58 PM I'm kind of torn about August. I still have no fruit on my tomatoes and I'm worried I won't get any before frost in September. On the other hand, cooler weather makes it easier to split firewood, dig new garden beds and soon winter will be here which means I'll have more time at the sewing machine to try out all the great new projects in MJ's book and magazine that I have earmarked.
So, I guess I'm happy either way :)

Posted - Aug 01 2008 : 08:58:31 AM I too welcome August..the start of my favorite time of year. Love those crisp mornings. I don't do spring cleaning like I do my fall nesting, I just have more energy when it's cooler and my creative juices seem to flow clearer and my enjoyment of cooking returns. I like to savor every moment. Debbie

Posted - Aug 01 2008 : 08:12:29 AM Beautiful words Alee The palouse wheat at the end of my drive is proudly turning gold, the nights are cool and the sun still hot, but harvest is on its way here. I am an August girl, so the harvest and all the beauty of it call to me.
