hauled home from a dumpster or the side of the road??

I found a 1950's wooden ironing board, including the case it was mounted into the wall with, on the side of the road. It is still in storage but I have lots of ideas for it.

Not very weird but my son and I found this really nice long handled screw driver. My husband found a golf putter laying in the road one time. The screwdriver we have but not the putter.

One of my girls and I were driving in Hershey this summer when we both spotted one of those big green plastic sandbox turtles on the side of the road with a big free sign on it! We backed up, stuffed it in the trunk, brought it to my house, and now my grandbabies use it as a swimming pool! Susan

I know this sounds crazy, but I hauled a neon beer sign with a big neon of Texas out from the side of our dumpster...I gave it to my brother.... lol....

Some lithograph prints of Marilyn Monroe...they were discontinues at the store and wouldn't sell. I gave one to my sister and one to my friend who has a salon...they were huge too...wall portrait sized. I actually have a friend who is a free-gan...they dumpster dive at the end of each semester in the town they live in. She has found new DVD players, cleaning supplies, health and beauty aids...she then turns around and sells them on Ebay...makes big $$$$ too! Go figure.

Ok, my HUSBAND is the "Dumpster diver" in THIS family! One of his "finds" was a truck load of CHEESE!!! YES! I said CHEESE!!! We had some severe storms this past Winter and it knocked out power for DAYS. The grocery stores were all throwing out their refrigerated stuff and he decided he needed to bring it home.

It's a LOOOOONG story as to why I was so PO'd with him for bringing that stuff home (I made him get rid of it!), but lets just say, my husband makes good money, and there is no REASON for him to do stuff like that, but he has the mentality of a homeless pack rat!!!! He can't pass up ANYTHING that's free or he thinks is a GREAT deal! He's ALWAYS carting something home we DON'T need ('cause we've already got TEN of them!). It drives me CRAZY!

Anyway, the only thing I'VE ever picked up off the side of the road was an animal feeder made from two plastic barrels. I brought it home, scrubbed it out really good with bleach and soap and it's been GREAT entertainment for my Jacob ram ever since! (I gave up putting his food in it because he prefers to PLAY with it!) Other than that, if I see something on the side the road or in a dumpster that looks appealing I usually just drive right on by. The good Lord knows we don't need anymore CRAP! ~~~Tracy

Betty Jo - If that sewing machine sat there for four days, it was meant to belong to you! Nice find.

Heather - my bff has been lookiing at new wall mounted ironing boards, and they seem to run close to $200.00! Way to go!

I seem to pick up stuff weekly. Last week I brought home a old sewing machine. Drove past it 8times looked at it 8 times in 4 days. Just could not decide did I really need this. Of course not but I sure wanted it. Took DH to see it hoping he would tell me NO. Didn't work. I now am the proud owner of a 1927 White Rotary sewing machine that is in almost new condition, works like a charm. Just need to spruce up her oak case and she will become a new night stand for our guest room. I would love to put her in my studio but I already have 3 machines in there. Wonder what it will be this week?

Celeste, you lived my husband's dream! I'll have to tell him about your find, that's like the Holy Grail to him. He keeps on believing that someday he'll find that guitar, or drum set, or reel to reel deck... Closest he's come is buying an amp from a friend who found it on the curb.

Strangest thing that I, personally, have pulled out of the trash would be the old car antennas that I was always on the lookout for as a kid. We used them as swords in our games (whippy little Three Musketeers swords). I'm sure that was very dangerous, but we never put an eye out, so it's all good...

I also hauled home an old rattan window blind, which became the front wall of my secret fort.

Hmmm...two things. A really nice big metal ladder in a ditch and an old wicker fainting couch(now resides in my bedroom).

I found a brand new electric guitare in the case in the middle of a busy intersection one night. We waited around to see if anyone was driving around looking for it, then put an add in the paper. No one ever claimed it. My husband traded it for a 9mm hand gun with a friend of his who actually played the guitar. Not sure what my hubby wanted with the hand gun, but that's long gone too.

I once hauled home a bucket with a big old hole in the bottom....to plant stuff in. It really wasn't a special bucket..but I liked it because it was green and sad that someone threw it out!

Now, I didn't haul this crap home, but my husband did. We were on vacation in the Addorondacs (don't even know how to spell that one, sorry), and my husband was driving and saw, on the side of the road, a 4 foot long turn-buckel! It went to a poser line on a utility power pole. Why he picked it up, I have no idea. He shipped that thing back home to Louisiana. Does anyone else think that is wierd? I still think it was wierd. My husband painted that thing gold and it's hanging up in his workshop at our camp. Just wierd.

well .. this isn't the 'strangest' .. but it was my 'luckiest' find .. welll .. i guess i didn't get it from a DUMPSTER either .. but the people at the yard sale i went to did!

it was a darling STEIFF teddy bear .. when the lady said: "TWENTY FIVE" .. i was so excited and was pulling out my Twenty and Five dollar bills .. when she finished with: "CENTS" .. well, i did get a 'death grip' on that little darling before fainting! lucky find!

I found a set or wire cutters in the middle of the road. Wire cutters for a left hander. I'm a lefty. How cool is that?! i use them all the time for cutting the stems on flowers for my wreaths and what not.

I turned around on the highway to go back and pick up a pool noodle on the side of the road. I love those things!
