Ooooh, Chelsey, I would like to try making some bird nests, too! What a great idea. They would be the perfect thing to go with my birdhouse and craft bird collection in the kitchen. Can you show us one?

It's in the Outpost book on pg 29, Frannie. I also have a red picket (sort of) fence that separates the finished part of the yard from the working part of the yard (dogs, burn pile, firewood, etc) and you can see a bit of it at the bottom of the picture.

diana .. i tried the twig fences and they fell down .. how did you weave them to keep them from doing so? do you have pictures? aren't these called a 'wattle' fence? i bet i can find those instructions somewhere. xo

jenn .. i've used vines for wreaths .. but twigs sounds so primitive .. love it!

I have a maple sapling entrenched under my fence. I can't get it uprooted because of where it's hiding its roots. So every spring, I snip it off when it grows to about 3 feet tall. I peel off the bark in strips about 1/8" wide and I can make them into a tiny, little basket. I get just enough bark for one basket each year. It's funny to see how they get just a little bit better with every try.

I like making birds nests and using them for decoration...even with a darning egg or two inside...looks really cute!

Frannie, my twig fence that's around my veggie garden happens to be in MJ's book! I also made an arbor and gate, but I didn't do a very good job with those and the winters have wreaked havoc on them. They are still standing but kind of warped, misshapen and leaning a bit.

Someday, when I have time, I'd like to play with making twig furniture. But I really should repair my arbor and gate and try to improve on that skill first ;)

During October I glue hundreds of twigs together, put orange bows and anchor it to the outside of the door. Happy Halloween.

I don't know if this constitutes "doing" but I put bunches of twigs in big vases as decorative non-flowers... :)

My cub scouts and I made picture frames with them..that was fun.
I used to have quite a collection of willow furniture..my whole living room 12 years ago when husband and I got married..he was more into comfort than looks so we most of it in the garden and it dosn't last as well outside..by the time we moved here 6 years ago all we have left are the peices that never went outside..one little side chair, a little table and a plant stand. sigh..I would love to have more. I don't see it as much here as I did in Calif.
