we have some fun ones .. a springtime 'parade' and activities for families. our FAMOUS "COW DAYS" .. a town fair .. our county fair and a rodeo .. our WONDERFUL Rendezvous .. 1800's long hunters encampment .. ART IN THE ALLEY .. in the summertime once a month on Friday nights we have live bands where the locals come to listen and sometimes dance .. we do an annual 'historical' play at our olde courthouse .. we celebrate and honor our heroinne who we all owe our lives to when we have 'abdominal' surgery .. we have a one-woman play at the courthouse reliving her saga .. oh gosh .. i know there are more too!

what fun things does your town do?

My favorite is "Evening Under the Stars" every Spring. We close down Main Street in the "Old Town" section of town -- we're the county seat of a largely scenic/agricultural county -- and there's a dance band on the old courthouse steps, tiny white lights strung up everywhere, dining tables with proper tablecloths amd candles set up in the street, and row after row of help-yourself food from all the best restaurants from miles around, specializing in local produce ("locavore fare), including wines from nearby vinyards. Everybody gussies up to the teeth and dances in the street near the bandstand. Our super-handsome mayor (a total hunk, I promise you -- think Cary Grant at age 45 or so) cuts in on all the ladies, which is always something to look forward to -- and a good reason to plague husbands to dance, just to get a "cut" or the mayoral action! The money raised from this event every year helps to support special free Christmas-season events and other things that help promote and preserve our heritage.

Our local farmers market runs from May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) through the end of October. The biggie is the Lamb-Weston Hydroplane Races at the end of July that also coincides with the Art in the Park for lots of regional artists to sell their wares. Our Benton-Franklin County Fair is at the end of August. It is a busy summer around here. And I'm sure I have forgotten to mention lots of others.

I live in Cheyenne, WY and the last full week in July is the "Cheyenne Frontier Days". This year was the 112th "Daddy of them all." There are parades which feature one of the largest horse drawn carriage collections; rodeos; night shows which include Country/Western singers; free pancake breakfast; old-fashion Melodrama; and much more. Frontier Days lasts for ten day.

In August, we have a Farmer's Market - local produce and plants.

In December, we have an annual Christmas Parade - even when it is snowing and brrrr cold.

Lots of summer events in the Village Green -- an art festival, a series of Tuesday night concerts, and the annual little carnival which is right now pulling into town.

My favorite event is the Historical Society's 'Shermerfest', held in September. It's the main fundraiser for the historical society and is named after 'Shermerville', the original name for our town. We have an antique car show, lots of old-fashioned games for the kids, food, a soup'n'bread lunch, a bake sale and a fall mum sale. Oh, and our Inn Shop (consignment shop) and the museum is open and busy busy! I volunteer at the Inn Shop and this event is so much fun. Great time to meet neighbors and make new friends. Come see us!

Oh my goodness! There is so much going on right now in the Treasure Valley. The Snake River Stampede finished up a week ago, the Canyon County Fair was last weekend, the Caldwell Night Rodeo is coming up real soon, the Idaho State Fair is also happening in Boise, the Owyhee County Fair should also be coming up soon, within the next couple of weeks. There are also fairs happening in other neighboring counties or have just recently finished. So there is plenty going on!!

Our little town has and annual ice cream social,Held at the one room school house museum. It is a lovely spot. It has many local antiques and important things our forefathers did here.A lovely classroom with a wood burning stove and all the things an early school house would have plus a barn full of all the antique tools and items you can think of. They hold a craft sale there everyear of handmade crafts. We have a Memorial Day service. Pancake Breakfast, a free picnic dinner with our local muscians playing.A Christmas gathering and special awards for our town students who make the honor and high honor role with cakes and cookies afterward. We have a park that has a little falls and a walking trail one that has many things made by the local Eagle Scouts and we have a day for enjoying them as a community. It is really a nice little town to live in.

our town has the typical Farmer's Days. It's small but includes a tractor display, parade with lots of pretty horses and local vendors. I have assisted with their fireworks dislay. one year the lawn tracor pull was just inches from our set-up area, so all night we watched souped up lawn tractors and all walks of folks sticking their heads over the loaded tubes wondering if those were real fireworks.

Asheboro, has its Fall Festival that corresponds around the time as the state fair in October. the fall festival coveres 1/2 a mole and includes vendors over 6 or 7 city blocks. It's huge, but typically filled with the tacky item of the year. Sometimes its those tin revolving wind chimes, other times its wooden toy pistols w/ rubberbands. I go for the person who sells the crystals and of course, the food!

Here in Julian, we have the fantastic 4th of July parade down the three blocks of Main St; Banjo Fiddle Contest in September (a fund raiser for the Lions Club); A grape stomp at the winery; jazz fest; and "apple Days", which used to be a week end celebration and now is all fall. Used to have an apple days queen and all, but now is more of a way for the merchants to make money before the end of the year and people to come up and "experience the fall"... There are also various art shows, a quilt show and the Women's Club Wild Flower show Mother's Day weekend. October has the Melodrama every week end in Town Hall and at Christmas there's the annual tree lighting and weekend performances of "A Christmas Carol". And the kids say there's nothing to do!!!

Gilmer has a (famous) history when it comes to Yams/Sweet Potatoes. The town was even featured on Primetime, (for both yams and an unsolved murder) and every year during the 3rd week of October we have the "Yamboree". There is a Queens coronation, ball, and parade; there is a agriculture show, and carnival sets up on the square. Just like a Jamborre, except for non-stop sweet potatoes!!!! So much fun too, it's just about the time that the weather is cooling off and the HS Football is warming up...I can't wait!!

There are quite a few newer events like Jazz in the Valley held this past weekend but the biggie is the Ellensburg Rodeo on Labor Day Weekend. All of the big name cowboys/cowgirls come and compete and it's a big deal for the locals. Our county fair is held at the same time and I always enjoy seeing the kids show their sheep. There are 4 separate rodeos (the rounds)on 4 consecutive days. The best part is the lot where they park..all of the cowboys/girls are there with their trailers with living quarters and portable pens..it's like a trailer city with horses. I used to ride on the local drill team and we participated in the parade and grand entry at the opening of each rodeo with all of the participants...it was pretty fun to be riding around in the practice area with the likes of Cody Ohl and others.

I live near Miles City, MT and every spring there is the Bucking Horse Sale. Where the rodeo stock contractors bring their horses and people bid on them and buy them. There is a parade, which we get to ride in, artist show, rodeo, concert... lots of fun..

Then there are the usual county fairs...
