oh yeah! we decided on a 'gatherin' date' here in Kentucky for citygirls, farmgirls, mountaingirls, cowgirls, seasidegirls, suburbangirls, towniegirls ... wherever your heart may live-girls!
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 10, 11, 12.
Now .. you can come Friday .. plan to arrive in the evening (i'll probably be running the roads until after suppertime!) .. and we'll find a 'little spot' to call your own for the night here at Freedom Valley Farm.
This will be for the 'adventuresome at heart' .. cuz' there are no available BEDS .. this will be a 'camp-in or camp-out' kinda-time.
We have three 'cots' that i can put up on the screened-in porch .. on the back-porch and in the 'treehouse' (noooo .. it's not IN the trees .. but UNDER the trees .. it isn't 'built' yet .. but kathy and krew will make sure it is before our gatherin' date! It's about 100 or so steps from the back-porch. you will need to bring your heavy-duty SLEEPIN' BAG .. and an 'air-mattress' if you wish .. or your own cot. (i'll be sleepin' out there with you too!) of course, we'll have a cook-out in the firepit and roast marshmallows and make S'MORES!!
If you jus' are not the 'campin' kinda' girl .. we do have 4 sweet cabins 'in town' (ten miles away) that can be rented. (if they are available .. soooo .. you'd have to reserve right away!) if you decide you would like to have one of the cabins .. let me know .. and i'll give you the phone number of City Hall so you can get one of them). They are complete with beds, bedding, bath linens .. i think they have a microwave (but no fridge). No dishes .. it's mostly jus' so you can fix mornin' coffee. you'll be joining everyone else for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Oh .. two cabins sleep TWO and two cabins sleep THREE. I think they are about $45 and $65 for the night .. very reasonable when split by two or three. They are down by the river at the edge of town (within walking distance).
if you prefer to meet up with us SATURDAY MORNING .. we'll have some breakfast vittles here at Freedom Valley Farm .. then 'hit the road' headin' for Kathy Sugarbucket's incredibly fabulous place! Kathy is going to teach us something 'fun' (she's decidin' right now on what .. but one of the things she is thinking is a 'primitive' country-style CHECKER BOARD .. (we will all pitch in some pennies for the supplies).
OH .. and of course, we'll need some 'transportation' .. i'll drive my van and can fit 8 of us snuggly in there .. if we are 'more' .. we'll need a couple more volunteer drivers .. it's about a 45 minute drive from here.
We have a FUN day planned at Kathy's .. but we want to save some 'surprizes' for you .. sooo .. i won't tell ALL!
OHHHHHH .. and jus' wait t'il you see her log cabin and 'little barn' ... they will be overflowing with antique goodies .. so you might want to bring some extra pennies!
THEN .. we will head down the road a handfull of miles to LUNA's delightfully fun Sheep Farm! Luna will teach us all about sheep and wool with a great class on "FROM SHEEP TO almost-SHAWL!!!" (she hasn't yet woven a shawl from her sheep wool .. but she will show us the process from 'shearing to cleaning to carding to spinning'! Of course, there will be a few fun surprizes at Luna's too!
AFTER DINNER (and we haven't quite decided what we'll do about that .. a lot depends probably on how many of us there are together)
... we'll head back to Freedom Valley Farm for the night (yep .. another CAMPING experience!)
We'll have a late-night campfire ... singin' songs, playin' games, tellin' stories, and jus' having GURLFREN FUN together!
SUNDAY MORNING .. we'll 'attempt' a CAMPFIRE BREAKFAST ... HA! i'm gonna' need your HELP on this one .. so we don't have BURNT BREAKFAST!
TODAY will be 'rag dolly day' at Sister Mercy's Foundlin' Home for Rag Chillun ... (this will depend on HOW MANY of us there are!) i can only do this for about 6 or 8 of us .. cuz' i have to make all the dolly bodies ahead of time!) If there are more of us than i have time to make up 'dolly kits' .. we'll do another easier, faster 'creative day' of hand-sewin' (probably some sewie make-do's!)
I'm plannin' a fun 'walk in the woods' too .. nuthin' rugged .. jus' a 'sweet saunter' among the trees and forest critters. OHHHH . .i hope we can find lots of 'fallen leaves' by then .. cuz' i have a fun little game i play with the 'kids' at AUTUMN PARTIES .. we will find our 'little girl hearts' and play it too!
IF YOU CAN JUS' COME FOR EITHER SATURDAY OR SUNDAY AND CAN'T SPEND THE NIGHT (OR LIVE CLOSE ENUFF YOU'D LIKE TO GO BACK HOME AND SLEEP IN YOUR OWN SNUGGLY BED) .. THAT IS O.K. TOO! YOU CAN JOIN US FOR ONLY SATURDAY OR ONLY SUNDAY .. OR BOTH DAYS!! (jus' let me KNOW .. so i can do some 'plannin' on my side of the fence for our gathering). FEEL FREE TO BRING 'GURL' FRENZ TOO .. but again .. i need to know how many!
REMEMBER .. if you want a CABIN .. you do need to reserve right away .. IF you will be stayin' here on FRIDAY and/or SATURDAY night .. pleeeeeeeeeze let me know as soon as possible.
AND .. for my friends from "off" (not from Kentucky) .. who will be travelling by plane .. LOUISVILLE airport is the closest one to us. It is about an hour NORTH of here .. and you would need to rent a car to drive here .. so sorry .. but i won't be able to pick-up and deliver .. cuz' i'll be a 'bizzy bee' gittin' ready for everyone's arrival. If you will be comin' by camper .. gotta' warn you . the 'turn-around' space down here is very small' .. so make it a little one ... or you might be camped here forever!
NOW .. for this one .. i'm gonna' ask for you to please try to leave the 'babies and bosses' behind. This is gonna' be a GURLFREN gatherin'. If you wanna' come back sometime with your honey-man and chilluns, that will be great .. but GURLZ JUS' WANNA' HAVE FUN! (oh .. pleeeeeeze no exceptions .. even if you think your chilluns would fit in).
i'll be happy to have a gathering someday where moms and kids can come .. and i'll gear the FUN for both big and little kids (the bigguns would be YOU .. .. the little'uns would be all your chillun!)
If your 'man' needs to drive you here .. there are adventures to be had. He can canoe down the beautiful Green River .. i can give you info on how and where to rent canoes. They will actually pick you up by the cabins in town .. ride you to the 'put-in' place .. and meet you back at the cabins to pick up your rental canoe. the price is very reasonable. IF someone is interested in this .. let me know .. and i'll get all the info to you.
MAMMOTH CAVES are only about an hour from here too .. and that is a fun place to visit for them too! And if he wants to bring along the kids and have them tag along with him .. these are great adventures for all of them.
There is a Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Campbellsville (next town over .. 20 miles from Freedom Valley Farm). Let me know if you need the number for reservations for your honey/kids.
BARDSTOWN is a lovely town to visit .. has Stephen Foster's 'MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME' .. WONDERFUL MUSEUMS AND RE-CREATED LOG CABIN VILLAGE. I don't know their days or hours of operation .. but can find out for you. BARDSTOWN is only about 35 miles from here and there is plenty of lodging there.
SHAKERTOWN is only about an hour and a half-away .. and OH MY .. what a lovely adventure that is .. BEREA is a coupla' hours away .. another fun town to visit!
Friday, September 26th is the 'cut-off' date for reserving a little spot IF you wish to do the fun 'craft' classes .. cuz' Kathy and I have to have time to 'create kits for you' .. it is also helpful to let me know a couple weeks in advance so i know how much 'vittles' to have on hand!

FARMGIRL BETTY JO is comin' to our Kentucky Gurlfren Gatherin' .. got this e-mail from her .. she's hopin' to find a 'riding buddy' and mayhaps someone who would prefer to stay at one of the cabins in town (with a 'real bed'!)
Betty Jo and her adorable husband were motorcycling 'down south' and surprized us with a visit to Freedom Valley qhile back .. i'm soooo excited to be seeing her again!
THIS FROM BETTY JO .. ALL YA'LL ILLINOIS/INDIANA GURLZ ... (jus' let me know and i'll put you in contact with her!)
Do you know of anyone flying in that I could share a rental with? If you know anyone who might be coming from the Illinois or Indiana area that would want to car pool I would consider driving.

another duplicate from JO GUMMERE .. but i wanted to make sure all you kids comin' to the gathering ... see this!
jo jus' e-mailed me and said she will send a sample of what she will be teaching .. we will be using 'vintage items and fabrics' from her stash!
she has offered this class (AND her materials for FREE .. but i'm going to ask that everyone who takes her class .. donate $10. each .. at least to help cover the cost of her gasoline for driving here!)
she is from Eden or Edenton??? North Carolina .. .she said that if anyone is near there that would like to come .. she will be happy to have you come along with her.

OH BE STILL MY HEART! if you gurlz are in the 'dolly world' .. you have probably heard of Jo Gummere .. she is a dollmaker and mohair teddy bear maker EXTRAORDINAIRE!!!! A True Pioneer in the Folk Art world .. (and she can make ANY style .. i love her 'whimsical creations!) She came to our Crooked Tree Hollow Doll Club when i lived in Maryland .. several times to TEACH!
OH . .i'll have to tell you all of the 'gourd head' doll class she taught .. and yessss .. that dolly she made resides proudly here at Freedom Valley Farm .. (i've taken everything off the walls for the painting .. but i'll take a picture of her soon to show you!) Our dolls were made with gourd heads that Jo brought for the class .. and we all .. .OHHHHHH .. i want to tell you this story in person .. soooo .. you'll have to join us at our gathering to hear it!! I'll post pics of the teddy bears we made too!
I haven't seen Jo in about TEN years now .. and recently she 'found me' .. she's on my TRUE FRIENDS list and saw where we gurlfrenz were 'gathering' here in Kentucky .. (she's in North Carolina) and is going to join us! She has offered (thumpity-thumpity-thump-thump goes my heart!) to teach a class on Sunday. It will probably be one of her 'quickie' classes cuz' i know some of the girls can't stay all day.
Be sure to let me know if you can join us! The list is getting longer and longer! xo

honestly, you kids can bring a tent if you want total privacy .. but we have plenty of 'campin' room .. without being on the actual GROUND. but what fun that you have one!
(i'm pushin' for a 16 foot by 24 foot outpost) .. we're going to put a HAMMOCK on it .. and we also have a hammock under the apple trees!)
very excited about seein' you again! IF you can't get here friday .. jus' be early saturday .. we're going to have a 'quick breakfast' so we can get to kathy's place early!

I was talking to Tim...he will drop me off on Saturday mornin' sometime...but will have to see if we can get down there on Friday...whichever day I get there...he will drop me off and then pick me up like last time. He will either go down to Nashville or go to Louisville or something...he mentioned about possibly going over staying at the WigWam Motel place. So you know, I will have to leave about 1 Fast time (Eastern)on Sunday to head back nawthward'.
What is funny...I don't own a tent...but after this morning, I do after going to a nieghbor's garage sale...it is more of a 1/2 tent that fits one person and has an open front...but I do have a blanket to pin on the front.

Frannie,
Count me in! I will be staying there, so I dont miss any of the fun, unless you have several girls coming from far off and then I would more than gladly get a cabin or stay with Ange. I know their (the farmgurlz from far off) expense for transportation would be more.
*A note about the cabins in town. They do have a small fridge but the beds are bunk and the 2 small cabins, are SMALL. We have stayed at them several times and they have always been clean and it is so nice to take an early morning walk down by the river. But hey, I wouldnt plan on doing much of anything but sleeping there. Wouldnt want to miss any of the planned fun. Cant wait to visit Luna and Kathy's farm and I am so excited! Done marked every calendar in the house. ha.

Ooooh...thanks for having it the weekend before that wedding we have to go too...so glad that worked out....cause my 'Honey Man' said that we could make a quick stop on the Sunday mornin' on our way back up from Nashville, but I reminded him that we all LOVE to sleep in even on "slow time"....'sew' this really works out great.
I plan to be there...oh what fun...I would LOVE to campout...I have not done that in a very long time. Sounds like a wonderful time (as usual) planed. I am panning on doin the crafty classes. Can't wait to go to Luna's place and Kathy's too. Markin' it on my calender! I will probably like last time will need to leave after a brief dolly lesson so Timmy and I can go back up to O-H-I-O. He will probably go to Louisville or back down to Nashville (like alst time) while I am havin' fun with you girls. Of course we will need to plan a time for you and Hank and Tim and I for a Honeys' Weekend :)
