become old .. and what is the secret to staying young?

i've known OLD 25 year olds and YOUNG great-grannies!
i basically believe the 'fountain of youth' is filled with HOPE .. and that ATTITUDE is the key!

I've been fortunate to have a lot of very "young" elders in my life. I had three great-grandmas who never seemed one bit "old" to me -- they were always keeping busy and always up for fun. It's taught me a lot about age simply being a state of mind, and I hope I can be the same way when I reach their age.
There's a woman who comes into my local yarn shop quite a lot with her daughter. She's in her early 80s and her daughter is about 60. She is more energetic and spry than most 50 year olds I've met. She dances around and tells jokes and is just the life of the party whenever you see her. She's also full of amazing stories, as she has done a lot of traveling and has really had a lot of awesome life experiences. She just got back from a trip to Europe this week and she's going to be one of my students in a knitting class on Saturday -- I can't wait to hear all about her trip! She's truly an amazing woman.
On the other end of the spectrum, I've had friends accuse me of being "old" since the time I was about 19 or 20. But I was old in the sense that I wasn't into parties, drinking, going out to the bars, etc. At 26, I'm still not into those things and I'm sure never will be. But I don't think that makes me old. ;) I still love to have fun, I'm just a bit more quiet about it, ha ha.

I agree that age all depends on one's attitude. Now if I could only get my body to agree with me! :-) A good sense of humor helps, too!

I agree- I think old is an attitude and I HATE it when people my mom's age say they are old. I think the more people repeat that they are OLD the more they think they are OLD. If you stay passionate, keep active and retain your sense of humor/sense of proportion then there is no reason for you to not stay young, right up until the day our bodies decide they are too worn out. My great -great Aunt Nora was an amazing woman and a spitfire right up until the day she passed. I hope that I can be as successful at wringing the life out of...life as that!

I am with Diana...old is a state of mind and attitude. I'll never be old because as the years pass, I keep dwelling on the "60 is the new 40" adages.  i teasingly tell my friends that someday I might finally grow up and mature but for now I'm still just a sassy kid in a grown woman's body with a teensy bit of wisdom acquired through the years (hopefully, but there's no guarantee on that one). Boy howdy!

Old is an attitude as far as I'm concerned. We have a very dear friend who'll be 94 in November. He's more active than some teenagers I know! He puts in a huge garden every year, still drives, travels, and does real estate business. I hope to be half the person he is if I make it to be 94!
