Well, when it rains, it pours around here. I had 3 interviews this week for some promising jobs. I need some perspective here.
1st job- local, not much $$$, office work but close and convenient for now.
2nd job- in the field I am studying in college, money is ok, experience is great, drive sucks..30 miles to the city but would be a great stepping stone to my future career and it is a really cool, professional building and environment.
3rd job- haven't interviewed yet but a normal office job, somewhere in between on the driving, decent money, again, nothing to do with future work.
I REALLY want the experience in my field but I a little scared of the driving distance though she said she would be flexible on the hours.
What do you think??? And power to the pink shirt, it seem to be working...

Never heard back from #2...even though I called twice this week. I am going to wait it out and see what happens. I am not putting my eggs in one basket. Thanks for asking.

Heather, I would say #2, because it's in the field you are studying. Would give you good stepping stones and moving up.

I figured it will take 3 gallons a day to get to work, so if I fill up once a week, I should be ok. I don't run around except to the grocery store and daycare otherwise, unless it is just to the local river, library or park, which are all within 2 miles of here.

heather .. when we moved back to Annapolis after living in Colorado .. i could take a local job with a law firm in Annapolis .. (closer to home .. decent money .. local private-firm legal issues) ... or BIG money in D.C. with an exciting career. I surely chose the D.C. job .. it was not 'just' the money .. but the JOB that excited me. NOW .. i was indeed lucky .. because hank already worked for the Justice Deparment .. (that's where this new job of mine was) .. soooooo he drove me back and forth to work everyday!
STILL .. even if i had to drive 'back then' i would choose the exciting career and good money.
you do have to consider the price of gasoline in that equation though. do the math .. and think of the pros and cons of each .. and let your heart AND head decide.

Good for you on opportunity knocking your door down! Even though this presents a challenge, I think you've already answered your own "question"...#2 for all of the reasons you stated. With gas prices and the drive, I understand being hesitant, but you just don't know what kind of opportunities might come from this and in your chosen field to boot. How about giving it a trial period that you set for yourself (I wouldn't tell them that) and see how it goes with the drive? Half of being on a career path is being around those in your field to network with...usually opportunities come from this alone. Working in an obscure office in a different line of work wouldn't provide this. I know you'll make the right decision for you, whatever you choose. Good luck deciding!

Yeah, I know what I want...ha!!! I am just unsure of myself sometimes. I have waited so long to get to go to college and then to get to do part of my future job is so enticing to me. As long as I make enough for gas, diapers, food and a little change, I am happy. It is more than I make now.

I'd have to vote for #2. If the money is okay for now. More money is always possible. Especially once they see what an asset you would be. And the experience would have value on any future resume, as well as value just as experience in your field. And you just sound like that's the one you really want.
