I've wanted to take a photo of this cabinet for a long time. It's currently stored in the trailer in two parts shoved together and the top part is on it's side. So yesterday, I heaved and pushed until they were apart. I bought this at my antique mall before I was even renting a space there. The dealer had just bought it the day before from the original owner. It was bolted to the wall in two separate parts. I think it's home made.

It's the biggest and my favorite cabinet I've got for my future kitchen so far.

I'm surprised to know how old it is, Kathie. And it's been a long time since I've actually seen it myself. It sits in the trailer all shoved together and sideways - LOL

What a great piece! I love cabinets that have pull out drawers for flour like that! I hope someday I will have something like that in my kitchen...maybe I will have to make one!

As I look at it again, I see what looks like small holes where other hinges may have been, so they may not be original, which is good, because they do not look very old.

I agree with Miss Wilma - I would have GUESSED 1910-20. But I am only a guesser, not an expert. Also, do you think it is the original pull out cutting board? The wood matches, but the slot is wider than the board. I love looking things over and trying to discern their history! Thanks for posting these photos!

What I liked most was the wear on the top side edges of the flour bin...they look like many many years of opening and closing, with a little flour sticking to the finish along the way. That only happens over a long period of time.

Love it though!

Thanks, Shirley Jean. I'm really relieved to know the knobs aren't very old. I really, really don't like them and have every intention to replace them at some point. That's good news.

There are real experts on this site - Miss Wilma for one. Ask her to look at it, because I know you see her sometimes. She can then look at the back and the drawer construction. It looks as if the handles have been replaced (probably in the 80's)....those handles were popular then, but I think I can see shadows of former pulls. The hinges look original. Home-made pieces are hard to date unless you really peek at them all over, because they were often put together from different pieces that were beyond repair. Sorry, but no date is coming to me.

Shirly Jean - Would you have any guess as to it's age? I don't have a clue and any help dating it would be appreciated.

That is a great cabinet! The flour bin has great age to its construction and to the top edges. You have a real find there!
