Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 09:47:35 AM We do have cell phones too, but just tracfones. Neither of us are big talkers on the cells and I use no more than 30 min per month...it has worked out well for about 6 years having tracfones and adding time as we need to. No big bills or contracts and my kids won't be allowed to have their own cell phones until they are at least 16 and have a job. They can use one of ours if needed. Usually not needed. I have mine around more for emergencies and so the family can find me if they come home and I am gone (rare)I was way against even having one (husband WASN'T) but when I was driving to Provo and back (3 hours round trip) weekly with all four of the kids along I decided it would be a good thing to have.

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 05:59:45 AM Two landlines - one in the kitchen and one in our bedroom. DH & I also both have cell phones, but we are seriously considering going to strictly cell service. I hate to talk on the phone too much, mainly because I can look out the window and see either all the stuff I need to do, or my big bull Elvis playing in my clean laundry hanging on the line -- again.

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 05:50:19 AM We have just 1 phone and an empty jack in a room that's cramed too full of "stuff" to get to.
We NEED one closer to the calendar in the kitchen and one in the bathroom.
Still no cell phone, but am more than ready to take the plunge. it's gross using the public ones and really frustrating to find one period! |

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 05:36:54 AM We have one cordless phone downstairs, and one corded phone upstairs (it's not a rotary, just an old push button office phone). We like to keep the corded phone because it will work when the power goes out.
We don't have regular cell phones, but we just bought a Go phone to carry with us when we travel. It got too hard to find pay phones! |

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 8:56:50 PM One cordless landline base with two phones and one cell. But, when the 'puter is on the landline won't work - so, one phone line coming into the house. That's what voicemail is for. And, only one phone rings - set on low. |

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 8:42:41 PM We have 2 cordless, 1 rotary (We never seem to use our landline,) and we have 2 cell phones. In fact, we dont even use our cell that much. We use email more than phone calls.

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 8:25:09 PM We have a cordless in the bedroom..which is never where I can find it, and a DIAL wall phone in the kitchen..the same dial wall phone in the garage too. Those came with the house. The kitchen phone has an amplifying thing on it and if someone turns it up (11 year old son!!!) it sure is a shock when you talk to someone on it..!!) I would have just the one cordless probably if the others weren't already here. It is nice to have the dial phone in a storm..I agree Abigail!

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 08:37:19 AM Just one portable phone in the kitchen, which travels with us if we are in the far reaches of the house. No cellphones here, as we don't get reception out here either.
Now if we would only remember to turn on our answering machine when we go out!

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 06:34:28 AM we have two home phones. don't laugh...when we moved into our house i was shocked to find a jack in the master bathroom. i thought it was ridiculous. well, guess what? that is where our phone is! the jack in the bedroom is in a weird place. but don't worry...i don't use the phone and the bathroom at the same time :) oh, our other phone is in the hall (we have a central hallway that runs the length of the house so that is the most central location).

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 06:21:36 AM we don't get cell service down here in the hollow .. sooo .. we gotta' have land-lines .. and i do love to be able to hear and grab from lotsa' rooms .. i'm not a LONG talker on the phone .. but i do adore hearing the voices of loved ones.
diana .. we got on the 'no call' list .. have never gotten a teller marketer call since then. i don't know the number .. but i bet if you google it you can come up with it.
funny, but even before that policy was established .. i never much minded talking with teller marketers .. yes!!! i know .. they call at the most inconvenient times .. but that is when they are most likely to catch us at home. and it is an honest job.
i also will usually wait to hear the voice before picking up the phone. sometimes i am jus' tooo busy to take a call .. unless it's one of the chilluns!!! xo

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 06:14:06 AM I have a landline in the kitchen. I don't want to give that up yet, as I get nervous when giving personal information over the phone. I'm always afraid that on a cordless or cell, someone can hack your line. I have a cordless in my bedroom and a cell phone.

Although they usually are talking on the computer with their friends through Skype ! Even my mom and I Skype with one another because we can either type our messages back and forth instantly, use the microphone or video cameras. If you ever need to save on long distance calls you may want to check it out. Its FREE!!

Posted - Jul 14 2008 : 11:28:36 PM I have 2 phones. A cordless landline in the livingroom--I really would like to get an extension for upstairs, but I'm in no hurry--I have caller ID, so I can return calls if I miss them. I also have a cell phone for when I'm out, esp if I am on the road. I live in rural Iowa, 38 miles from my folks, and 70 miles from Des Moines. Got to move up closer to keep me off the road so much!
