I have lots of pairs of old Denim Jeans and I am starting to cut them up to use for all sorts of projects.......I am looking forward to seeing how many things I can create from them! I love recycling and reusing ..... My Dear Sweet Mother was one of the first clothing recyclers!!! Really....I had full skirts recycled over and over and made into other things before anyone else's Mother that I knew ever did anything like that......Luckily my Mom was creative because that was one of the only ways we would have had the opportunity to have new things at that time >>>>>>> during the 50s and the budget was tight!

Has anyone ever recycled old jeans and used them to make other things??

Audrey

I've been saving up some denim to make a rug. I learned how to do locker rug hooking, and have this idea to make homemade rugs. I just think denim would make the nicest hooked rugs.....mmmmmm!

Amazing how many things can be recycled from old jeans!!! I started thinking after reading all the comments >>>>> Wonder what Levi Strauss would have thought had he known where all this Denim would take us 100 years later!! I did a search.....Check it out .... Very Interesting to read the History of Levi Strauss Jeans!!!

Getting the stuff together to make some tote bags using the recycled denim and some sensational vintage fabric I have!!

It has been kind of gloomy today and starting to rain so I have been enjoying just hanging out in my studio and exploring the possibilities of what I want to do with the denim......I Think some pocket people to go in the pocket of some of the old jeans might be fun for my little great nephews and great niece!!

I don't sew--yet--but, my MIL just took a couple of pairs and turned them into a tote/caddy/holder thingy that my FIL can use in his 18 wheeler. It slips over the back of his drivers seat and holds cds, snacks, whatever--it has two rows with 3 pockets each! Really neato mosquito!

Oh yes, I do love old denim! I have made purses and the best was a scrappy quilt with calicos on the backside and denim squares on the topside...I sewed the squares wrong sides together and then washed it in the washer until all edges frayed nicely and trim it up some. Gave it to my DD for her graduation present and she still uses this quilt today. The more it's washed, the softer it gets and it's already pretty soft since we used DH's old work jeans.

I have a stash of old jeans in my fabric stash for whatever new project comes up. Have made placemats out pillow covers out of denim too.

Okay, so now I have a blog. http://woolyinwashington.wordpress.com/

I make tote bags from the ones taking up space here. My hubby found a huge box full at his grandmoms and I've made 2 small totes and one huge totoe for my MIL to use as a grocery bag. I'm thinking about cutting some up and making a crocheted rug with them too. You could also make aprons, pillow covers, and purses. The possibilities are endless!
