what a beautiful Kentucky Saturday .. it's been raining off and on all day .. even had a HUGE downpour that got honey hunk and me to run to the back porch with a cuppa' coffee to enjoy it!

Right afterwards, humming birds, cardinals and a yellow finch all headed for the feeders! What a delight to see.

Then we came inside and i made a "Nut & Cheese Crock" dish for tomorrow when we have some friends coming for Sunday Supper.

All my recipes tomorrow came from the MARLBORO COUNTRY COOKBOOKS .. hey .. i think i'll post pics and recipes in the KITCHEN here at MJ's farm .. go take a peek.

now miz luna .. don't go breakin' my much coveted reputation for being a disaster in the kitchen!!! if you lock the doors, tie me with a rope so i can't get any further than the stove, fridge and sink .. take away the telephone and all books .. i can sometimes keep from setting fire to everything i attempt to cook!

We did have a fun time (what else?)...and contrary to the persistent rumor...Frannie CAN cook! The stew and the cornbread were delishes and Kathy's pies are truly to die for.

Sitting on the front porch . .i showed them my little sprig of SWEET ANNIE that was actually sprouting from a STONE on one of our front stoop steps! Luna smelled it and was ecstatic to say she had TONS of it growing in their yard!!!

My BIG CROP did not come back this year!!! i adore sweet annie!

I am so grateful for good friends and good times. What a fun way to go through life.

I think one of my most favorite times was when we 'walked about' looking at my gardens and looking for the perfect place for Kathy and Eddy to build us an 'outpost' tent stand.

I noticed 'bunnies' skittering all around the garden .. told them i had never seen so many in the 'daylight' hours. As we walked towards the blueberry bush .. i saw a bunny 'squatting' and commented that it looked like she was 'poopin' in the yard! Luna ambled out to join us and exclaimed that there was a 'brand new bunny' in the yard! We all skittered over to take a peek .. on our path .. two bunnies were doing something i had never, ever witnessed before .. they were LEAPING HIGH into the air almost like circus performers! I had seen a small bunny in the very middle of the garden .. it leaped out when we were looking at gourds. i thought this is what she meant .. but OH MY GOSH! she meant BRAND NEW as only minutes olde!

Eddy went to investigate where i had seen the bunny 'squatting' .. which was further downhill from the garden .. and SURE ENUFF .. there was a brand-new second bunny .. that momma' was giving birth when i thought she was doin' her biznezz!!!

We left them alone, hoping the momma would come get them. But about an hour later, they were still there .. and Luna was concered because their breathing seemed to be slowing down.

I got a garden trowel and Eddy scooped both bunnies up and put them in the NEST that the little bunny i had seen earlier sitting in the MIDDLE of the garden had made . it was lined with bunny fur!

I soooo hope the momma came back and is taking care of them. I won't disturb them .. the gourds can just grow as big as they want to! I will be looking for bunnies hopping in and out of the garden patch though!

What a fun time we did have! Kathy and Eddy, Luna and Alan arrived and announced that a 'flood' was pouring from the top of the hill .. all the way down the road past our house ... the guys all went to investigate and found that a 'water main' up over the hill had busted! a quick call to the 'water department' and i think it will all be fixed sometime today.

i just love gathering with friends!

good friends, good food, good conversation!

luna and i talked a little of a Kentucky Chapter of Farmgirls .. Kathy had us rolling with laughter about her recent trip to the 'gambling boats' (the one i missed cuz' i busted my teensy toe!!!) ... Kathy is NOT a gambler .. her sister IS! Her sister got some 'free money' (ha! just the gambling casino giving her back some of her losses in the past to get her to come lose some more!)

But THIS TIME .. they both WON! Kathy turned $20. into FOUR HUNDRED that she came home with!

We all talked about the autumn SIMPLE GOODS SHOW in Ohio that we will all be attending. Kathy will have a booth there. It's the best i go to each year! WONDERFUL primitive hand-dids!!! Luna will come and spend money and have a good time .. I am going with the Mercantile Gatherings Magazine gang to sign magazines ... but mostly to see olde friends and have FUN! OH DO join us!!!

Kathy and Eddy brought some wooden furring strips and nailed them to the boards on the 'addition' of the house so we can have it all painted (NOT the olde log part!)

We talked of Luna's farmhouse and the possibility that it might have originally had an olde log cabin on the property. Kathy is soooooooo knowledgeable and gave them tips to look for. Kathy and Eddy took measurements to add a tin roof on the 'schoolhouse' here at our farm. She is also going to do the 'indoor' painting of walls (and maybe floors too).

ALAN .. fixed Hank's TV speakers so that it sounds like you are 'on stage' at a rock concert! they will blow him right out the back door of the cabins .. i just hope it doesn't shake any of the mortar between the logs loose!

AND .. he showed me 'which button' to push to make my 'surround-sound' speakers work! (Eddy showed me before .. but i 'forgot'!)

They laughed when i told them that i won't let hank hold a flashlight for fear that he might electrocute himself!

What sweet memories .. we ate on the wonderful back porch that Kathy and Eddy built for us .. we sat on the front porch and talked .. we ended up back around the kitchen table for dessert and more talking.

Lovely, lovely time together.

well my 'chili' .. ended up more like a 'hearty beef soup or stew' .. it had more 'liquid' than the one pictured in the book .. and i just couldn't resist adding some carrots (lotsa' carrots it looks like from the photo ... they all floated to the TOP hiding the beef chunks! .. also some celery and BEANS .. it just did not look 'hearty' enuff to me .. that meat sittin' all alone in the pot!

but it tasted pretty good though.
