Y'all pretty much know I'm moving to a new house...weell, I've been having to get some new things to go with this new house. As in shopping for kitchen things, bathroom things, etc, etc, etc.

So I'll admit -- I don't shop AS practically as I could. I have a thing for mall department stores...BUT I ONLY shop super good sales!! Never buy anything at it's original (severely overpriced) list price.

So I was feeling all accomplished and satisfied last night as I headed to the checkout at Macys with an armload full of things on sale ((I added up my sale savings... and gurlfriends...it totalled over $200 that I managed to cut off the total price--smart shopping, no??)).

The first thing the lady asks me as she's adding up the purchases is ""who are you buying all these nice gifts for??"". When I kinda mumbled 'I'm moving........', the look of shock on her face as she asked "it's all for YOU?!" made me feel SOOO guilty!!

That's the second time that's happened to me.... :-/

*sigh* Am I the only one that treats myself occassionally to well-earned (and well-priced) things for home??

Maybe next time I go to get something I'll say it's for this person I know who's moving.........

I would have smiled really big and said Heck Yes! I go quarterly to the mall and seriously treat myself and the family...even in a tough economy, you have to find a way to make life fun from time to time.

No guilt!!!!!

Nope, nope, NO WAY - I never feel guilty about taking care of myself. It's such a rare occasion why should I.

2 weeks ago I splurged on the goats milk hand repair cream set from Crabtree and Evelyn - good stuff at a great price $10 per set.

Pooh on guilt! If you have the money go for it. I love Jami's
response. Don't let anyone try to make you feel quilty, jealousy will get them no where!

You gals are so sweet! Melanie, cowgirl boots are a NECESSITY for us farmgirls. So ya know, those were perfectly justified, hmm? It was nice to get that "retail therapy" after all the crazies of moving--it does seem like a lot of us are going through this phase in life right now!! Moving takes a lot out of you, shopping is the perfect way to recharge!! But you are all right...as long as I keep my shopping balanced, and I get the nice things that will last longer (love this excuse, Alee!!), then I shouldn't feel guilty, I suppose.

Although I'm definitely practicing the "It's all for ME! How about that?" line incase the guilt sneaks up again.... THANKS Jami!! LOL

Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.

I am learning more and more that no one can "make" me feel guilty but me! I was raised with the "guilt factor" and it's something I fight constantly.

You can practice this for next time Jodi...(in response to the salesclerk's comments)..."It's all for ME! How about that?"

Happy you got some things to make your new house feel like a fresh new home...enjoy it.

Jodi.. I think it is all about Balance...hitting the thrift stores when we need to.. and spending the little extra when we can... I for one am proud of you for taking care of yourself.... it is an art you know...

Dont you wonder why, sometimes, that guilt is one of the things we girls do best.....

Are you getting excited about your move??? have you noticed the amount of gals on the blog that are in the moving mode???? wow!!!

I wouldn't feel guilty! If you have the slush fund for it, go for it! It's nice to have nice things! Every person has their own individual tastes and some people prefer some stores over others. I think that was unprofessional of the check out lady to act so shocked. Enjoy your nice things! You know you have worked hard for them and nice things, if taken care of properly, will probably last longer than some other things!

Who'd buy someone else a whole household full of kitchen and bathroom things? Maybe she thought it was a wedding registry... You never ought to feel guilty for taking care of yourself (unless it's at someone else's expense, of course).

Pish posh. We all deserve a lil treat sometime. I went on a shopping spree just for me a few months ago. It felt really good. Something I haven't done in forver.(Imean since like before my kids were born.) But I was really bad. I went to RCC on the mall and bought one pair of cowgirl boots and spent $180. That is so out of my norm, but I love the boots and am really glad I went ahead and splurged.
