I Love Aprons .... Wearing Them, Making Them and Giving Them as Gifts! I plan to start doing a few craft shows toward the Holidays to sell some of my Aprons & Sock Monkeys. I was wondering what kind of Aprons do you prefer ..... half aprons, or full aprons? Just thought I would take a little survey here and then apply it to what I make the most of. Do you like reversable ones or one sided best? I love making a variety of different kinds cause I get bored making one type but would like to have some imput from All the Farmgirls on what they REALLY prefer!

Also, I LOVE making my Sock Monkeys for the little ones cause I think every little one should have a Sock Monkey in their lifetime but >>>>> do you think some adults would like the "Well Worn" looking ones just for display? By "Well Worn" I mean looking like they have already been loved for years and years!!!

Until Later,
Audrey

I am really taken by those "wild" sock monkeys at Blue Moon...thanks Cheekyredhead! I've kinda taken a shine to the Hot Flash and Rock Star (I'm doing the hot flash thing and my hubby is in the music biz) Wow!

I love aprons too. Not sure why. Rarely saw my mother in one except a holiday and never saw either grandma in one at all but, I have 3. My fav is a (too big) pink full top and bottom with really big pockets. I wear it a lot around the house and even out into the garden. I have another 1/2 sz pink that I picked up at a thrift store when I needed something on my way to somewhere else... But, my other one belonged to my husbands great, great, aunt. Uncle V gave it to me a year ago (right before he passed away at 98. His wife L was a teacher and apparently one heck of a homemaker too! It's 1/2 sz and white with purple roses and trim. According to the "legends" (what else could you call them) she made the best fruit pies/jams around (KY) He also bestowed upon me a quilt top that she wasn't able to finish before she passed. He felt that his kids wouldn't really want any of her things and since I was so willing to listen to story after story, he thought I should have those things. I know it's not my place but I do bemoan the fact at having to leave behind that school bell she used to ring at her one room school house in the hills (I'm a teacher too)cause I have a sneaky suspicion that it's in a box or already thrown out. Alas, one apron and a quilt top will live on!

I am grateful. I have enough.

I loved the little sock monkey my granny made me. She also made me a felt-type donkey with a yarn tail and I slept with those for years when I was little. Everytime I see a sock monkey it reminds me of her.

Christine & Samantha....thanks for your input.....Knowing that you like all kinds of Aprons helps me to know I can just let my creativity go WILD!!! Hope others feel the same!

I know for me >>>>> it depends on the mood I am in......sometimes I like aprons that are more "hardy" for everyday work and sometimes I like "fun" aprons for when I am feeling light hearted and silly and sometimes I like "fancier" aprons for when I am entertaining and sometimes I like aprons that help me to set the mood for different Holidays and Seasons!!!!!........................Do others feel that way too?

These smiles are what I mean when I say.......Every "Little One" needs to have a Sock Monkey!!! If ya notice the humidifier in the room .... one of the boys had a bad cold and their Mom said the Sock Monkey was just what the Dr. ordered!!!

I love all kinds of aprons...girly, lacey, frilly, denim...they're all so cool, it doesn't even matter if they are half or full!

Great Laura!!! I know lots of adults that feel Very Nostalgic about Sock Monkeys ....... even if THEY never had one as a child.....Sock Monkeys have been a part of our culture for so long and are a familiar, warm fuzzy kinda icon!! I make many Sock Monkeys for the "little ones" that ofcourse each have their own personality .... some that people have asked me to dress in particular kinds of costumes like the Boston Celtic one I sent a picture of in another thread for a friend of my son's new baby......he and his wife are HUGE Boston Celtic fans so they wanted a Sock Monkey dressed as a Boston Celtic Basketball player!!! Many Adults like to get a new one for themselves as well!!!!! ............

But, I was wondering >>>>> Do you think some Adults would want one that looks really "Well Worn"....like it had been around and loved for years and years??? Ones that they could put in with Antiques and it would look like it fit right in next to a big ole cupboard or primitive chair? I am thinking of making those as well and wondered what people thought. I have lots of ideas running through my head on how I'm planning to create these "Well Worn" little Sock Monkey friends!!!!

I am an adult who would love a sock monkey!!!! To be very honest I always wanted one as a kid & my mom thought I was a little goofy I think, 'cause kids from up here around Chicago did not tend to go around with a sock monkey!!! I see them sometimes in little shops & always tell my husband how I wanted one as a kid, he always says to "Get one." but I feel silly buying one for myself. I am hoping one day he'll buy one & surprise me. So...my answer is "Yes" adults would love their own sock monkey!!!

I am a fan of both style aprons, but I must admit I love the full apron, it is my favorite style, I seem to need a food catching area some times...I only own one reversible apron, made by Apron Expert Kathie, I love it. I think people really like aprons, not just for the usefulness, but a bit of color hanging in the kitchen. I have a couple of my mother's aprons that she made. One is her Fourth of July one she always wore on the fourth, and we'd come for supper, we'd have to be dressed in red, white and blue, and were rewarded with fresh salmon and peas, strawberry shortcake for desert. I think it might be a state law in Maine that you have to have salmon and peas for the big day.

Pamela, Jessica, Christina and Ada Mae....I really do appreciate your comments!!! I am really with you Ada Mae about wishing you had one of your Grandmothers Aprons. I Wish I had one of my Mothers Aprons....She also wore one everyday and yup, at the time who would have thought of wanting one of those worn out aprons she wore so proudly??? I have some wonderful pictures of her in the kitchen baking .... cherished pictures, cherished memories!!! I Do have some fabric from blanket covers she used to make and wash over and over and over for us......I think I might make aprons for the family out of those!!!!

Still hoping some of you will comment on the Well Worn Sock Monkey Friends???

I love wearing and making aprons. I remember both my grandmothers wearing aprons all day. I can see one of them now wiping her hands on the bottom of hers. I wish I had one of their aprons. You don't think about things like that when you are younger. So many memories just get thrown away because "who would want an old, holey apron?" MEEEEEEEEE

I love all aprons but I find they each have there purpose. I think that you would do great making a some of each style. I personally love full ones in the kitchen and half ones in the garden for gathering.

I have aprons hanging from the handles of my bottom cabinets. I love the half ones because they fit better. I like double sided fabric too. I still have my sock monkey that my aunt Wilma made me mannnny years ago. Yep all kids need one!! I think the well worn would be cute and look like they have lots of love.

I have to have a full apron to keep things off of the upper part of me (I seem to catch things there, if you get my drift).
I also like it when the strap just goes over my head and I don't have to tie anything, keeps it from getting caught in my hair too.
