Posted - Jun 26 2008 : 7:02:43 PM I thought it would be fun to have a place where we could post things you might say if you're a "farmgirl"....Like, "let me grab my boots, it is getting deep in here"...............when someone is "spreading it thick".... Or "telling whoppers"... or "spinning a yarn".....

Posted - Jun 27 2008 : 8:11:28 PM When I was younger, in the winter, my mom would always say "It's colder than a well-digger's shovel out there"...not that it actually ever gets cold in Texas...at least in my hot as heck part...

Posted - Jun 27 2008 : 7:00:52 PM Grandma was always warm and even in the winter with snow outside she would leave a window open. This made my usually very calm Grandpa grumble,"Were you born in a barn??" After which he usually closed the window.

I didn't come down with yesterday's rain (meaning, I'm not that naive, or simple)
Get outdoors and get the stink blown of ya!
....Like a duck on a junebug (meaning excited about something, or tackling something with gusto)
Busy as a hound dog with fleas...

Posted - Jun 27 2008 : 11:52:18 AM My mother used so many sayings, I got used to them. For instance, when a child was a lot like their parents and would act it out.....say a child was strong-willed or determined or musical or artistic....and so were the parents, mom would say, "well he/she didn't lick that off the wind." It meant the direction that trait came from did not have to be guessed.

Posted - Jun 27 2008 : 10:34:29 AM "Couldn't hit a bull in the arse with a shovel" was my Dad's favorite, particularly if hammering something and missing the nail. The air was a little bluer if said hammer hit a finger!

Posted - Jun 27 2008 : 10:11:49 AM Hmm... I've heard all of these at one point or another, but haven't really used any... I think I'll adopt the fly in the ointment one, as that's most appropriate for my life right now. LOL
