We had visitors from the city yesterday. Three girls, ages 8, 11, and 12. They came to spend a day in the country. They petted the goats, fed the chickens, played with the kittens, chased the dogs and were amazed with the rabbits and pigs. Then they checked out the candle making stuff and played in the water. They even delivered milk down the road to our neighbors and went and checked on my m-i-l (who is 89).

Yesterday evening we had a cookout - hamburgers, hotdogs & chips with homemade lemonade. Afterwards they caught lighting bugs and played hide 'n' seek in the dark. Then we had brownie chocolate sundaes for dessert before they had to leave.

They don't have much contact with extended family and their parents are in Mexico on a missions trip, so they are staying with my dd#1 and her family. They wanted to know when they could come back.

Who knows, they may be future farmgirls! :)

Yes, you can come play anytime you want, Debra.

Nancy, that was sad - no trees! The candy store deal is kind of typical though, huh? All depends on what you are used to.

What? Never caught lighting bugs! My goodness.....what did you do on summer nights?

When I lived at home on the farm, we took in two girls from NY city through a church program, called fresh air kids. Anyway, we lived in what was called the Genesee River Valley. Well of course there are trees and hills and more trees everywhere you look. The one little girl was sitting on the front lawn and she said, wow you have lots of trees. I said, do you have any trees? She said no, but her Dad new some people that had one. The other little girl wanted to walk down to the candy store. Well for one we wouldn't have been back in time for dinner and the other is I don't think we really had a candy store.

Gee, that sounds like a great day. I want to come catch lightning bugs! I've never done that. And homemade lemonade and the sundaes sound awesome. No wonder they want to come back. Those kids will remember that for a long time I bet. Nice job.

That's all it takes is a little taste of it and you're "hooked"! You gave those children memories they'll never forget and how wonderful of you to open your home and show them such a great time. It sounded like a prefect day for anyone and you made me hungry with the all the good food...I guess I better go "rustle up some grub".
