Good Morning All
My daughter & I are hosting a Tea Party for her Brownie Troop in a couple of weeks & just wondering if you have any suggestions to make the whole things special & help it to go smoothly? The girls are all 7 years old. They are bringing along the other special ladies in their lives & we will also be taking time to share the crafts we are working on. The girls have just begun to do some needlework!

Hi Laura, I had a tea party for my daughters 7th b-day last June, and one of the things that I made, and the kids loved them, were strawberries that looked like ladybugs. You take the leaves off the strawberries, stick a toothpick in it, and top with a grape for the head. Then you poke the strawberry with mini chocolate chips for the lady bug dots. Very simple, but the girls loved them!

Laura....oppps....sorry I just noticed you were doing a tea party and not a fairy party.....Soooo I just did a search for tea party books and there are some on that too!!!

I was at one of the Bookstores today trying to find a Tooth Fairy book to include with the Tooth Fairy doll I made for my great niece for her birthday (she is turning two!!) and happened to notice all sorts of books on Fairy Parties that included decoratng, invitations, game ideas, food, costumes, etc. I also just did a search on the internet by typing in Fairy Themed Party Books and there are Many books listed. I am sure there are lots of them also at the Public Library.

hi laura .. wonderful ideas from everyone. i presented "Yesteryear's Children Tea Parties" for about ten years when we lived in Maryland. I had anywhere from 2 to 6 parties a week (sometimes TWO in a day!!) (morning and evening!) I especially loved the 'historical tea parties' .. where the little girls could live like a little girl in any era of American History. (I have all of the historical American Girls Dolls and all their furniture, clothing and accessories and lots and lots of other dolls .. HA! i actually got a phone call one day asking me if i knew where the DOLL MUSEUM in my town was. I got SO excited .. thinking there was a new doll museum i could go see .. but when the lady told me that there was a 'tea party' also offered .. i just laughed ..and told here that was my HOME!
I also did Raggedy Anne Picnics and Teddy Bear Parades - Garden Parties - Forest Fairie Tea Parties .. ohhh .. the themes were endless. i do suggest that you choose a 'theme' .. and always set a 'breath-taking' tea table (using your 'theme').
I have ideas for games and crafts .. and will try and send you some photos when i get back home to kentucky next week (they are on my home computer .. don't have them on my laptop). I did always indeed have two 'rules' .. i did not EVER have games where there were WINNERS .. because that meant there were also LOSERS ..and a child is never a 'loser'. And i never did let the girls 'pick and choose' when it came to pairing up 'partners' .. it does not feel good to be chosen 'last'.
i usually do everything in 'child'size' portions .. and NEVER used paper or plastic ware. a Tea Party always meant linens and lace and china and silver. (child-size) .. i used beautiful QUILTS at Colonial and Pioneer Tea Parties and Lace for the Victorian era and wonderfully colorful 1940's table cloths for 40's and 50's theme tea parties.

I have teas all the time. I am actually writing a cookbook about it right now! I suggest a tiered serving tray if you have one, with small sandwiches with something you know the girls will like, I suggest cheese and watercress. Grapes and brie make a delightful sandwich if you dont have too many to serve. Use standard bread and cut out the tiny sandwiches with a cookie cutter, or just in quarters, with crusts cut off of course! Also, quickbreads like banana bread or zuchini bread with a little butter or whipped cream cheese are perfect. A trifle is the easiest dessert to make and it is honestly foolproof. Google a recipe if you want to try it but essentially, a cubed pound cake, some vanilla pudding, whipped cream and berries layered make a delicious trifle. Substitute a little orange juice for the standard sherry. If you want to stick with finger food then consider tiny tarts or little cupcakes rather than fussing with petit fors. Then the teas!! I suggest making a couple of different tea choices, fruity tisanes might appeal more to a youngster. Maybe a citrus flavor and a strawberry. Be sure to serve it with lemon, sugar or milk.

Yes, I think it might be cute if there is an element of "dress up" with hats, gloves and pretty dresses. An outdoor tea party might be nice if the weather is good, and you can serve small cakes (maybe personalize the cakes if you know who is coming), donuts, and other sweets. Sounds like fun!

I have only been to 1 tea party, and I learned one thing that i can pass on to you is that if you put lemon in your tea dont put milk in it or it will curdle. Yuck! We also wore hats! Lots of fun to you! Karen |

At a tea party everyone must wear hats and white gloves if you can find them. Have name cards and of course china, here in the south we always use cloth napkins with matching tablecloth. Serve finger foods along with different flavors of tea. If you have just plain tea try adding peppermint candy to hot tea or you can use lemon drops. If you have any mint growing you can also add that to your tea. Petite Fours are also a special treat, I have the simplest recipe. If you can find the little fold up fans that would be fun too. Fresh flowers are a must as well as tea spoons.
I could talk all day about tea parties, they are such fun. You always serve a fruit, your main dish or salad we usually have chicken salad and a dessert. Scones are wonderful to have too. Oh I wish I could come. You'll have to let us know how it turns out.

KENTUCKY FRANNIE, has had lots of tea parties. Maybe if she sees this post she can give you some really cute ideas. If you go on her blog she had lots of pictures on there a while back.
