I was watching a news show.. 1st they were talking about the state of raw tomatoes.. then they went into how the average shopper wouldnt be buying organic because of the cost of everything... I had to chuckle to myself as I thought.. (they dont know some of the farmgirls I KNOW).....But it also made me wonder.. SO where is my line... what wont I give up as we tighten our belt some.

I wouldn't give up AC either. It gets HOT and humid here. My little house heats up like an oven by noon. So the AC is on 99% of the time from Mid June until Mid September.
I would die if it wasn't on between the sweat factor and allergies.
I wouldn't give up Organic stuff either, especially produce.
Otherwise, we are pretty simple here. The belt is pretty tight.

I have always lived a farmers life so I guess I have always adjusted, I sure would hate to give up the ac though

It's alot easier for me to think of all the things I am willing to give up. Dh and I were just having this discussion yesterday and I was telling him of all the things we could give up to save money. I would be willing to give up most things except those basic to life, it's the family I would have to contend with. I have been trying to think of "extra" things I couldn't live without and I just can't come up with a list! This would be a great discussion to have with my family! Thanks for bringing it up!

I think it depends on how tight ones belt gives where they would draw that line. Right now it is my daughters shows for her cattle, but if it came down to paying the "regular" bills and going we would have to give that one up too.

I am also with you on the AC.....I came from the north and still getting used to it! But I must admit I have it off first thing in the morning and open my windows all day but my house is brick and seems to heat up like an oven by about 4 or 5 p.m. so once it starts me dripping just standing still then I turn it on plus there is no breeez in this house and only one ceiling fan.
If I stay here I am having those installed in every room! In Iowa it got hot but my house was shaded by trees and there were lots more windows and ceiling fans so I only used it once in a great while.
Yeah...the haircolor too! LOL! Oh and trips to see my children! I am making 2 trips this summer but then I haven't been north for 3 years but this year there are 2 babies! One's not even born yet and the other is turning 1!

Let's see....what wouldn't I give up?
This sounds really elitist, but I really enjoy a nice glass of wine. I don't buy expensive wine ($9-$15), but we drink wine with dinner--I was raised that way. So, I wouldn't give up the Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc that I've been in love with for the last couple of months.
I wouldn't give up thrifting. It's the thrill of the hunt for me, and I love to find books for cheap.
I wouldn't give up buying things for gardening--flowers or veges--they sustain us both emotionally and foodwise.
Other than that, I think I could do just about anything

I refuse to give up things that are joys for my children--we have monthly family days--for instance, next month is a trip to the Hurricane Harbor water park--I might scale playdates back to just one big day a month, but still, they need to have fun experiences during their childhood. I might have to change the way that we do some excursions, but I would have a hard hard hard time giving them up entirely!

I am with you on the AC. I even think my health would suffer if I had to live each day in the heat of Florida.
I would keep buying the food for my family that is GOOD food. I would keep my washer and dryer and fridge, and just be conservative on how many loads I wash. We have to keep the cars but we are certainly cutting down on driving.
Suddenly, I had this thought.....if you asked my husband, I wonder if I would be on his list? I know I cost him extra money and work all the time!!! :)
And we would not give up our pledge to our church. Giving back that which is His in the first place...

Air conditioning. Here in SC, the heat is tremendous! I'll give up trips to town (don't really go much anyway),I'd give up tv, radio, stove (being able to cook inside), the occasionaly dinner out, all the extras..but not my air conditioning!
I already eat as organic as I intend to since I grow my own and put up and preserve most of it. Most of our meat is venison, I'd even give up the net connection. Oh yeah..not the air though.
Is that bad?? LOL

Hmmm....interesting topic! I would say it would be EXTREMLEY hard to stop taking trips to see my grandbabies who are 1 hour 45 minutes away....and my sons who live about 3 hours south in Los Angeles.Tho if I'm being REALLY honest I will say getting my hair colored and monthy eyebrow waxings would be tough to give up!!!Other than that, there is nothing I really need.
