Hi Gals,
I got back yesterday from a business trip to Las Vegas.
Wow, what a culture shock for this hick!
The hotel we stayed at was the Stardust and the conference was at the Paris.
We had some free time on Saturday and Sunday to site-see, so we did.
There was so many people it was shocking.
The money was everywhere, I remember seeing one lady at a slot machine in our hotel when we left and she was still sitting there when we got back, Lord knows how much money she put in that machine.
I could feel my wallet getting tighter and tighter while I was there.
I just couldn't bring myself to try a slot machine.
Finally the last evening after supper, we had to walk thru the casino and I decided to to only spend a dollar so I wouldn't go into distress if I lost it. It took me only 5 min and it was gone in a nickel machine.
It just confirmed to me I was not a gambler and never would be.
This hick was so happy to be home again.
I'd rather spend the money here at home in my own town.
I seem to be able to waste enough money without gambling any of it.
Just my 2 cents.

The last time I was there was in 1980! Went with DH on a freebie bonus trip...YIKES! It was nothing like it is now though. I was like...walking around in a stupor. I hated the gambling. Cannot part with money that way. Played a few games of Keno and that was it...We stayed at the Hilton. I hung around a baby/children's gift shop, made DH nervous. It was the only place I felt "safe". I am a true HICK. We had only been married 6 months, so we spent most of the time in our room.hehe.Honeymooners. I do remember going to a show and there were these HUGE elephants running on the stage walk right next to our table. I thought if one of them trips and falls I will die from a lap full of elephant...I was terrified!

If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come.

I don't like to gamble either. I have friends who "limit" themselves to hundreds of dollars. I've never played more than penney or nickle slots. I have been to Vegas and it is intersting, but I don't think I'll ever go back. Except maybe to get married by Elvis! That is if I ever get married again!

I lived there for a couple of years mid-90s. It was hard because of all the greed vibration and I hate hot weather. Even at night the temp never went below 90. I had a lot of good, and difficult, learning experiences, tho. Grew a lot. Had a lot of "working girls" for clients. So sad. Can't tell you how many were ill from breast implants. Finally Daughter and I decided to go "home" to L.A. I literally almost went nuts in Vegas and I'll never go back unless I absolutely have to. You can have it, Arlene!

Happy Wishes!

Karen You are so right! Vegas is shocking! However, I go there every 2 or 3 months It's the closest city to where I live and we go to the large bookstores and spend the day browsing and drinking coffee then we go to Trader joes, wild oats, and sometimes whole foods to stock up. This is our big day on the town, and even though we enjoy it the best part about the trip is getting back home! Our friends and family can't believe we avoid the strip like the plague that it is. Nevada law makers are pushing for a pipe line that will take water from northern nevada farms and ranches and bring it to vegas so the madness can continue. Growing up in the west I have wittnessed water wars among neighbors but this one will be on a grand scale I hope the ranchers can stand their ground!(pun intended) ~Kathy

I agree - I just won't throw money away - on gambling anyway! Las Vegas is NOT on my list of places to go, although I did go with my family once as a teenager. I've been reading about the great time the farmgirls had in NY and I have to agree - that's one fantastic city and I've gotten to go a few times. I'd go anytime!
