We watched this really good old movie last night but didn't catch it at the beginning, so we don't know the name of it. To be even less helpful, we didn't know any of the actors in it either :(
Anyway, it appears to have been made in the late 60's early 70's and it takes place around the time of the civil war. It's about a Quaker family the mother's name was Eliza and the father's name was Jess. The mother was the ordained minister. The oldest son wanted to go off and fight in the war. At one point they all went to the fair where the mother lost track of everybody and as she found each one, they were engaged in something that was seriously frowned upon. The youngest son was caught at a shell game, the daughter was caught dancing with a young soldier. The oldest boy and the father were caught fighting with someone.
Then in another scene, the father had bought and had deliviered an organ. Eliza would not allow him to bring it in the house and after an argument, she told Jess that if the organ came in, she was going out. He still brought it in and she spent the night in the barn. They compromised later.
Anyone have any idea what movie I was watching? It was such a good movie. I want to buy this one.

Gosh i haven't thought of that movie in years. i remember seeing it at the theater. I'll have to rent it, I remember enjoying that film...Karin

That's it! Boy, I was way off on the date. Thany you so much Amy, Jonni and Susan. I knew the father looked familiar, but it had been so long since I'd seen a Gary Cooper movie, that I forgot what he looked like!

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's actually from the mid 50's with Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire (sp.)...Something..."Persuasion". It was based on a Jessamyn West novel. Oh yeah! Friendly Persuasion!
