WELL, chilluns .. i am finally rested up from my wonderfully FUN weekend with all the gurlfrenz (new and olde) at the Cinnamon Creek Cabin Show in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. There were MARVELOUS vendors .. everything was so wonderful olde-timey! Both Antiques and Hand-Dids. I've not been to Dru's show before .. but the vendors were all saying that the 'crowds' were down this year .. probably because of the HIGH price of gaoline. BUT OH MY GOSH .. what an incredibly WONDERFUL surprize i got .. when i arrived. One of my very best gurlfrenz from our dolly club in Maryland surprized me by showing up! What fun .. she and another friend were VENDORS .. and their booth ended up being right behind ours .. We got lots of catching up chatting done! I haven't seen her in 5 years .. so it was truly a delight!

AND .. i ended up buying a great basket from them .. and an adorable child's very olde suitcase .. and (just what i need .. ANOTHER doll house!!! i think i have about 6 or 7 olde ones now!) But i just couldn't RESIST!!!

Half of my dollies got adopted .. and what a joy to have each person get all excited about them and their stories. I showed MaryJane's books and magazine .. and quite a few women said they were definitely going to buy her books and subscribe to her magazine! Most had never heard of MaryJane .. I told them THEY WILL!!! They all absolutely LOVED her books and magazines!

will write more of our fun show and gathering later.

(i cannot believe i did not take any pictures .. i was just having toooooo much FUN!)

Sounds like a wonderful time Frannie...tha is neat that miz Luna stopped by. When is the Simple Goods Show (can anyone stop by there or is it just for vendors)? On another note,I am hoping that sometime in July Timmy and I can get down there...so we can meet w/ you and honey-hunk Hank.

The Summer issue of Mercentile Gatherings sounds interesting....I will have to get one

So you know Maria Antonia was picked up at the train station the other day and she is sittin with the other chillun'exchanging stories and playing with crafty goodies.

Outta couriosity, which Chillun' are still available for adoption or are you still working on that?

Frannie, I was looking at your 'chilluns' site and was wondering if Cordelia June with the wild blond hair is still available. Forgive me if you already mentioned that she was sold and I missed it, but she is so cool with that hair...wild child (chillun). If she was sold, do you have a long lost identical twin sister somewhere? lol :)

oh frannie, i read through your email and like nancy jo, i felt i was right there with ya. i think you kentucky girls have some of the most fun of anyone, at least i know you take the fun whereever you go.
i dont have alot of experience with the craft/antique shows, but i have a friend who does them all over the country and i have always heard that when you sell half of what you bring or more that is a success.
i think you were successful at this show on many fronts, especially as a "goodwill ambassador " for the maryjane farms.
i have wanted to post and tell you too, that i loved the feature in the magazine on your sweet dolls. the pics were beautiful and the interview/storyline captured the spirit of our mj frannie, as much as you can be captured. i have a feeling your energy level and spirit is a little hard to pin down.
at any rate, thanks for taking us on yet another cyber adventure. when i win the lottery i am comin to kentucky to one of your shows and seeing all in person, until then please, sista frannie please keep us posted on your comins and goins, i for one, love it!

oh .. gotta' tell you too of another dear purchase i made at glovers' station just before heading for the Cinnamon Creek Show. I had stopped to pick up a primitive cupboard for Kathy .. and took a quick run-about in the shoppe at 7:30 a.m. .. and discovered one of those dear early children's suitcases that i collect .. and it was filled with (be still my heart) ... ADORABLE early dolly-clothes! I asked Charlene if other clothes had been purchased from the suitcase .. and she said that I got the whole kit and kaboodle!

All these treasures are giving me incentive to start making room in the schoolhouse for a 'by invitation only' shoppe and wonderful 'guest house' .. which has been my original intention for the schoolhouse ever since moving here. I think the tin roof over the porch will also get me going!

OH .. and something else we want to do here is something LUNA showed me at Dru's Cabin ... a drain pipe across the tin roof line .. with a 'hole' drilled at the end of it .. no DRAIN SPOUT!!! instead it has a huge CHAIN suspended from the hole and ending in a large rustic RAIN BARRELL. i soooooooooooooo want to put that on the barn and schoolhouse!!!

the creative ideas at these types shows are absolutely endless!!!

lordy! i do so love LIFE!!! and FAMILY ... and FRIENDS!!! ... and ADVENTURES! ... and CREATIVITY! ... and MAKING LOVELY MEMORIES!!!!

i thought for sure that Kathy and Luna would end up putting me on a 'tether' .. cuz' every time they sent me on an errand (to get change or food) or that i ventured off .. it would take me FOREVER to make it back because i am constantly stopping or being stopped by someone to chat!

it is hard to choose a 'favorite' booth .. but i did, indeed, have a favorite ... and it was right in front of us .. so i could visit and jus' drool over her very early vintage homespuns .. i have never, ever seen such a wonderful collection or display of early fabrics! AND the wonderful woman who was the momma of this booth was dressed in early 1800's clothing (her blue checked homespun apron was much like the one i had worn on friday night). AND she HAND-SEWS every item she creates .. with an ANTIQUE needle and olde thread! She had a delightful young lady with her that i could have just tucked in my dolly suitcase and brought her home with me.

Lizzie and her mom were there .. Lizzie has such delightful re-purposed hand-dids .. and what a sweet soul she is. Beautiful Ruth Rochelle was there with her honey hunk Jimmy ... and as always, her wonderful primitive booth is full of delightful things. Oh gosh .. i could go on and on and on about the booths and their 'displays' .. i could easily have spent a million dollars. There were lots of dealers that also did SIMPLE GOODS show in Mt. Vernon, OHIO in the autumn. DO NOT MISS THAT SHOW .. IT IS NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOME!! Cows in the Creek, Miller House .. and oh gosh .. i'm forgetting the names of so many of them .. but there was not one booth there that was not top-notch! OH .. and Luna and i got some wonderfuls from Kathy Sugarbucket's dear friend, Wilma from Beaver Creek. I adore my 'foot-warshin' bucket i got from her. and a very early bible (that will probably end up in the arms of one of my "Good Little Christian Girls" dollies soon. Wilma made lots of sales .. her prices are so reasonable and she has such fun stuff .. she was set up directly next to us. What a sweet woman she is! Oh . .these events just get my creative juices flowing!

there were so many wonderful booths (prim vendors do tend to do the most awesome booths!!!) lots of friends from shows i've been to before. (i seldom DO shows .. mostly just shoppe them) .. lordy! when it was all over .. i told the girls that there isn't enough money in the world to entice me to do shows .. all the 'getting of stuff' (well, that's the FUN part .. but then in want to KEEP what i buy!!!) .. the un-doing of your shoppe to take these things to the show .. then the LOADING of the rented vans .. the gas prices to get it TO the show .. the UNLOADING of the stuff and the putting it all in place and decorating (i love the decorating part .. but don't want to have to take it down .. and jus' die a little everytime something gets bought!!!) ... then the reloading of things that did NOT sell AND all the things that we dealers purchase at shows .. our vans/trucks are usually as full as they were when we arrived even if we sell everything in our booth! .. OH .. and the overnight expenses .. food/lodging .. then the driving it all back home or to our shoppes .. the UNLOADING of it all again .. and the re-putting it back in place!

now .. i was wondering how many ZILLION DOLLARS i would have to make in order to make it worth it to me to do all that .. minus the expenses of what our 'stock' originall cost us .. the cleaning of it (sometimes) .. and other travelling expenses!!! i calculated and decided it was more than the National Debt!!!

NOW .. when you are shoppin' these shows .. remember all i said above .. and know that usually what is being asked for a piece is very fair!!! (I love going to shows and buying and don't mind the travelling expenses .. and ADORE the socializing and finding of wonderful new primitive treasures!)

The very best part of adopting my dollies at this show was meeting so many wonderful new friends where my orphan chiles will be going to live.

oh .. i wish i had some photos of me in my cute APRONs!!!! Friday .. during setting up .. i wore a long white skirt .. black top .. and an apron with a wonderfully huge pocket that i had added .. it was a FARM scene!!!

Friday night .. i wore a long blue skirt and a vintage homespun bib apron .. sooooooo little house on the prairie!

saved my fav apron outfit for our Saturday Sales. I wore a sunshiney yellow long skirt (i got all three of these skirts in Jamaica this past winter .. wish i'd bought more!!!) and i wore ADA MAE's beautiful apron over my skirt and equally colorful top!

Some of the other girls took photos .. i'll see if they can send them to me to show and tell our fun weekend!

Mercantile Gatherings GURLFRENZ were there .. with a table. they got LOTS of subscriptions and leads on wonderful primitive homes and shoppes to feature in future magazines. I'd wander over now and then (i was CONSTANTLY 'wandering' .. visiting with friends.) Twigs, Faye and Lynn Ann came to show and sell the magazine.

By the way, my precious friend Twigs, has to have an operation this week. PLEEEEEEEEEEZE say some special prayers for her that all will be well. I just love her so much. A more joyful soul i have not found in all of Kentucky!!! I think I laugh most when in her company!!! We about tore down a restaurant at dinnertime with our stories and giggles!

Faye, (the owner and momma) of Mercantile Gatherings Magazine is the sweetest little angel-pie on earth. Such a gentle soul. Please remember her in your prayers too .. she found out about the death of a dear friend while we were at the show ... she has lost FIVE friends in the last six weeks!!!

AND ... BE SURE TO GET THE SUMMER ISSUE OF 'MERCANTILE GATHERINGS' .. my article this issue is all about one of our very own dear FARMGIRLS and her honey-man! (i'll post some pictures soon!) For Subscriptions .. e-mail: mercantile@neo.rr.com or call 419-935-1321 .. and be sure to tell 'em: 'FRANNIE SENT ME'!!!

Adorable and very talented Lynn Ann from Ohio came along too. She has lots of wonderful linen designs with a company called RAGHU. Very simple and primitive.

(By the way .. Kathy Sugarbucket has just had a lot of EARLY designs accepted by Raghu. So .. if we cannot afford the early, early originals .. now we will be able to have wonderful accessories and linens for your home that Kathy has designs inspired by early american antiques.) I'll let you all know when they are 'out' and ready for purchasing!

Farmgirl LUNA came along with us and what fun she was!!! She is such a darling! We were all discussing a 'title' to call her 'job' with her sheep farm. I am going to call her a Shepardess!! Now LUNA's honey had to join us yesterday with a huge truck to haul home all the antiques that she bought .. (most from Kathy Sugarbucket!!) What a great eye she has for wonderfuls! I can hardly wait to visit to see how she has everything displayed. Luna is a darling .. and i am so very happy that i have found her as a dear friend!!!

a few other purchases i made were .. absolutely the most adorable child's chair (made from an early stool) Kathy Sugarbucket liked the stool so much .. she said she would never have made the 'chair' out of it .. but i have a lot of great early stools .. but this chair was soooo adorable! The sides and back are made from early calicoe .. i'll take a pic of it and post it soon! I also got the yummiest early green-paint bench .. it sat in an olde country general store. The lady who sold it to me .. even gave me an olde photo of the general store! I'm going to put it on the porch of the 'schoolhouse' as soon as Kathy Sugarbucket puts a tin roof over it! Even though i am sure it would 'weather well' for quite awhile .. i jus' don't want it gittin' wet! AND i got a wonderful olde rag rug that another lady BEGGED me to sell to her for double, triple, quadruple. I told her that if i didn't want it sooooooooooooooooooo much myself that i would just give it to her for the price i got it for. Usually, if someone wants something so bad .. i let it go to them .. but it was quite tattered (she SWORE she was going to put it on her floor in that condition!!) .. but i have great 'rag ball' .. dolly hair .. and lots of other projects in mind for it and just couldn't let it go! (it's actually on the 'floor' in my little sewie room right now. the colors are wonderfully time-worn .. it's all wool).

i am still thinking of a little cupboard that i let go! it was red/white/blue paint. all olde wood .. some of the paint (the red cupboard doors) had been done recently .. but it still looked great!) it's one of those things that you 'let go' and think about for a long time. but i am of the belief that something equally (or more) wonderful will come along for me .. and whoever got it will enjoy it as much as i would have! and it didn't sell until the last couple hours of the show!

SOOOOOOOOOO MANY WONDERFUL TREASURES TO CHOOSE FROM AT CINNAMON CREEK SHOW .. NOW "THIS" IS MY KINDA' SHOW .. I'D RATHER GO TO ONE LIKE THIS THAN ONE WITH TONS OF STUFF THAT I DON'T LIKE OR WANT. I CAN FIND THE LITTLE ODDITIES THAT AREN'T PRIMITIVE AT LOTS OF ANTIQUES SHOPPES .. BUT TO HAVE (whoops .. i'm in caps!) ALL "primitives" in one spot .. really makes my heart sing!!!!
