So Abigail and I got up early this morning for our 8 am registration at the school, Hearing and eyes and speech and lots of little questions...We need to work on the ABC's and 123's more before she starts next year....Next Tues. she goes for her Kindergarten Physical...which means acouple of shots...How would you mention this to a girl who cries when her brother gets his shots???

What is the deal with all the required shots and a BLOOD TEST?! People don't even need a blood test before getting married anymore. My kids didn't need a bunch of shots and stuff before kindergarten. I mean they got their shots as the pediatrician recommended at the appropriate times but that was it. They got a physical every 2 years as that was required for sports. What is all this?

Since when are shots pushed this hard? I'm feeling suspicious...

My youngest son starts kindergarten in the fall. I'm really unhappy with all the shots that is required, plus a blood test! I absolutely hate needles, even those for someone else, especially my little one. I'm going to have his eye and dental exams done first, then the physical. He won't be 5 until August anyway, so I have to wait on that. I really do wish there was a way to spread these shots out, but the law requires all 4 be done at one time. Boy do I ever dread this!

This is NOT to start an argument about vaccines, but when it came time for my daughter's kindergarten shots, we just didn't do it. We signed the waiver on the immunization form that said we're not doing it for personal/religious reasons. Our reason being that she was absolutely terrified, and I mean TOTALLY freaked out about them. She would have had to be held down for them, and I just didn't see the point. It was just a booster at that point, (she had had all the shots before that and suddenly at about age 2 or 3, she started flipping out about them) and I feel she is pretty well protected anyway from what those shots are for. I didn't want her to have that kind of experience at the Dr. She's in 2nd grade now and perfectly healthy! (and not afraid of the Dr. anymore!) I'm pretty sure all states have that little loophole, but they usually don't advertise it too much.

All 3 of my kids get their's when needed and we have never had a medical issue arise but she is such a Drama queen and hates seeing her brother get his or her older Sis... I'm sweating here!!

I get really stressed out about shots and always have. The shorter amount of time that I knew I had to get shots- the better I was because I would only get more and more panicked each day. So while I hope to be able to explain to Nora everything so the doctor's office/ nurse's station isn't a scary place...if she ends up hating shots then I will probably add it in just as we are about to be seen like "Oh and you have to get a few shots but it will be fast and just a little poke and afterwards we can go get a little treat" even a balloon or something if you don't want her to have sugar or fresh strawberries or her favorite dessert or something.

My mom prepared me by buying a doctors kit and letting me "give" her shots.

I hope she does ok. (((HUGS)))
