Posted - May 04 2008 : 12:15:11 PM Today, hubby and I took off to the country to see our new country farm house. We have the walls up in the basement Hubby and one of his brothers have been taring and stuff like that I was surprised to see all the work that they have gotten done I was also surprised with the grading and new drive way All the dead , dieing and ugly things gone Hubby said he needed to do some more thinning out of the trees. We went to his brother's home This brother is living in the "old farmhouse"and I mean old over 150 years old I hadn't been down there in years. Hubby's brother is a contracter and builds homes with another guy I love all the work they did to the farmhouse And her ( wife) house is decorated in angels and reglious things. I was surprised; told her we have another thing in common She has a sister named Sheila, and that is my name It was so quite in the country ; such pretty blue skys. A bit nippy today; but so pretty !! All the mountains around our farm are so pretty I will be seeing mountains in front, behind and sideways Ha. and a glimpse of the Blue-Ridge-parkway I have been doing major de-culterring About 9 huge bags of clothes etc. gone 3 big bags of old worn out and trashie things gone all in my closet ( but, I for get I did that on another thread here. Anyhows. Can't wait to get out of here and back on the farm Going back to my roots. Hugs Pinkroses

Posted - May 05 2008 : 12:24:41 PM Thanks for the post I will try and get son to post some pictures for me on my blog ;because I am not to bright about doing that I am glad you like my blog Our new home is one main floor and a full basement and 2 car garage. I have a big country kitchen / dinnig area. with wall pantry and a big walk-in pantry, There will be a country victorin fireplace with a hutch on it and maybe a mirror in that Somehow, a kitchen/dinnning area with a fire place just looks so homey to me I get the Master bedroom to myself( my hubby snores and I am up most of the night ) also the master bath. I am going to do both in girly colors. I think in my bath I am going to do pastels colors, like french rose pink, and a dressing table to sit and blow dry my hair. I cannot stand long without my feet going numb. I want to do lilacs. and maybe one wall in lavender or perwinkle. and other walls eighter a really soft pink or yellow. My bedroom; I am not quite sure I am planning a quilt ; that has dark purple and light lanvender I am going to do some applique work , Having quite decided on the pattern I already am about finshed with a Grandmother flower motif pattern in lavender with little white vines on it I thought I was through with the quilt top and even sewed four blocks together and the quilt kept saying --" I don't like me that way" So, I went to JoAnn's and found the perfect light lanvender back ground with dark purple roses I am going to do yo-yo-s' for the middle of the Grandmother's motif and put a dark leafy green for the corner stones Probably the same fabric I make out of the yo-yos I am going to do the sashing in Hubby will stay in my new sewing room until he builds a bedroom and bath down in the basement Maybe 2 bedrooms. IF we did those while we are building ; it would be a lot more. So, he will be in there Son will have a bathroom up stairs probably We had to down size the house plan and do it to fit our budget I got my country kitchen/ dinning room from several of the Country Woman magazines. then tailored it the way I wanted it I have to sit down to do a lot of my meal prep. as my feet and whole body gets numb if I stand long I will have a counter lower than the island that will be half circle too; with a wide conter area to put extra things like slow cooker and a roaster oven.
We will have a half cirle island in which will be a sink and dishwasher( which both my hubby and me are looking forward to) haven't had a dish washer in over 27 years. Had to downsize the huge living room with huge fireplace to make a bedbroom for son. We had to cut down the huge laundry room and push it over to where the garage meets we had to go back and for with the guy that did our house plans to satify both hubby and me and our money budgetHa
Hubby had saved quite a bit,( I was surprised) We had to use most of it to do the foundation and really show the bank that we were really going to build the house and not take the money and run Hubby is going next week to show pictures and get the lady to come and look at it He told me he is going to get back what he saved and put in in our savings account. So, that is how things are now right now it looks like a big hole with concreate in it Ha. Brother-in-law assured me that it wouldn't be like that for long. Thanks for wanting to know about our home We have planned this for around 31 years ( that is how long we have been married.) Hugs pinkroses

Posted - May 04 2008 : 6:14:45 PM Sheila, Virginia is a beautiful place. You are very lucky. You must be so excited to be building a brand new house. Your view is going to be lovely, you probably already said this, but, what is your floor plan like in the new house? I'd love to see pitures too.
