I wore a hawaiian print long dress (hubby bought the matching shirt and didn't tell me and suprised me that morning!!! LOVE him!!!) and flip flops. We were married by the justice of the peace.

Goodness, Peggy Sue what were you sick with? That is a sad story - my hubby got sick at our reception, and I was up all night with him as he had a terrible fever. But at least we got through the wedding and most of the reception!

my first marriage was very traditional... pink and white gown... the whole nine yards, my second one i wore jeans and a western shirt for the ceremony and a hospital gown for the honeymoon. i was so ill we didn't get off our sofa to get married, and went straight to the emergency room right after. i don't think the ceremony even lasted 5 minutes.....all the guests hadn't arrived yet, and we went ahead with our i do's with out them so i could go to the er.

Funny... My "theme" was "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves". Chuck wore a silver tux as in knight in shining armour. The soundtrack played for the reception. But in all redneck weddings, we had little money, so the `spread~ was "a big samich". Anybody remember the Wings episode?. Anyway, he worked for a deli part-time and they so called catered it. We had 3 bid old hoagies, slaw, salad and soda, no alcohol. The whole shibang costed less than 1,000. from start to finish. Including the honeymoon. My sister was my only bridesmaid/maid of honor. She had been a bridesmaid 3 times in the past year, so I just picked one of her dresses for her to wear for mine. I can squeeze a penny til it screams!

I love looking at ya'll photos. My dress was actually the first one I tried on. My mom and one of her friends was with her for a conference that was in town. I had been over to the shop and picked out particular dresses. The dress I tried on first was a last minute decision to try on...I was looking through the rack and saw it and thought, hmm, I'll try that too. Well it was perfect. It had long sleeves with lace, beadwork, etc. It had a vneck and was a-line. The bottom edges reminded me of country accents with the lace hearts and beadwork. I tried on the other dresses, but nothing was like that one. It fit perfectly except to get hemmed as I am short and I was going to wear flat shoes. Here are photos of the dress (but that isn't me...this is the photo from the website of the maker that I saved when we ordered it):
 
As far as everything else with the wedding...Lord the stories I could tell! haha. My bridesmaid dresses came in 2 weeks before the wedding (oh they were ordered several months earlier). They were the wrong color, wrong size, everything was wrong. We ended up ordering them from somewhere else and they came in a couple of days and fit perfectly. There are so many other details of funny stories, but I'll tell them another day.
I did have my dress, a bell, a napkin, and a hanky preserved and they are in a special box. I also preserved my flower bouquet and my husband's flower myself and they are in a display case with our silverware cake cutter/server & toasting glasses. Our cake topper was a very special one. Here is a photo of it:
I had long dark hair like the little girl and my husband always plays guitar for me.
Here in about 21 days, we will celebrate our 3rd anniversary. Time sure does fly by when you are having fun! I'll try to find a wedding photo to show ya'll sometime.

Sherry - what a pretty little gal you are! Lovely!
We were married in the chapel of our episcopal church. It was not our first wedding, so I wore a peach long dress. Fifty people came. But we had communion and a priest married us. My maid of honor was my former mother-in-law!!! She became my best friend for a few years, and was the cutest little thing! I loved her. She loved me. We had a nice reception at a local country club and went to San Francisco for our honeymoon. That was thirty years ago, and like someone else mentioned above, we were the most excited about being married, and the wedding was secondary. But it was fun!!!
This past November, our daughter held a surprise party for our 30th in the very church we still attend and were married in. That was as much fun as the wedding!!!!

oh sherry ... you look like Princess Rapunzel ... absolutely GORGEOUS! what a beauty you are!!! inside and out!
did you have it 'hermetically sealed' in a box for future daughters or daughters-in-law? we did that with daughter wednesday's dress. i don't have any photos of mine that i can find right now .. i'll see if i have any 'digital' ones of daughter wednesday.

I guess even back then I was a farmgirl. The dress was handmade by a friend of my aunt, the headpiece and veil were made by my mother and I. Even the "flowers" were crocheted by my mom and fixed to eucalyptus branches.

I married in 1971 - I was 18. My parents were not thrilled that I was getting married and my mom did not participate in the planning at all. I was working at two part time jobs, going to college, and overwhelmed with the thought of planning a wedding - but I wanted something that we could remember. My parents also said they wouldn't contribute financially to the wedding - (which still surprises me because they really liked my fiance). So, I had to cut corners wherever I could. I had to make my own AND my bridesmaids dresses because I had to pay for everything myself. I was making $1.85 an hour at one of my jobs and a whopping $2.10 at the other! I knew I could make the bridesmaids dresses myself, but I was nervous about the wedding gown, so I signed up for an evening sewing class at the college so I could have the instructor to go to if I needed help. I got it made - white satin dress - empire waist, straight skirt, with a lace overlay on the bodice, lace train, and lace, leg-o-mutton sleeves. I also made my veil. Bridesmaid dresses were moss green, similar style to my dress without the sleeves, trimmed in gold (some of you gals might remember the avacado and harvest gold era!). My parents did attend the wedding and everything must have turned out ok - 37 years later we're still married!! (Oh, and by the way, we returned from our honeymoon in Disneyland to find dh's draft notice in our mailbox.)

I wore a white, natural waist wedding dress embroidered with moons and stars (originally we were going to get married at the observatory, built by John Adams in the early 1800's)...but, after Justin's family got wind of it they had to put their two sense (or 12) so we just moved the date up and got married elsewhere, but I still kept the dress :)

OH MY WEDDING DAY WAS SO LOVELY! We were married on a 'mountainside' (our back yard in Colorado!) ... my 'ex-husband' (a LOVE!!) 'gave me away' (the traditional 'daddy' thing!) .. my 'matron of honor' was his brand new bride (whom i affectionally call my 'wife-in-law' -- who is also a LOVE)! HA! a friend once told me that she is 'offcially' .. my EX-wife-in-law .. since she is married to my 'EX-husband'!
Jimmie and Cherie (my ex's) were married on Valentine's day 1976 .. we were married on Independence day 1976. My something 'borrowed' was her wonderful wedding gown that i wore!
Her 'something borrowed' at her wedding was MY ex-husband, Jimmie! We all still giggle at that!

We were married in 1978 outdoors at the Breaks Interstate Park in VA. I wore a long white granny sundress with little red roses with flowers in my hair ( can we say HIPPIE oops guess I may still qualify  .

i got married back in 1979......does anyone remenber when princess caroline of monaco got married (her first time) to that loser named philip?? she wore some dior wedding gown.....anyway, mine was similar to that one but with a high neck and even more ruffles! my marriage ended when my ex ran off with a tramp. i sold the house and when i was moving, i through the gown & veil out with the trash. (picture this huge white, billowy dress and real fancy veil laying across the top of a heap of stuff!) you should have seen my neighbors face when she saw me do it! |

My first marriage I did the dress, church, 200 people, catered reception. Big mistake - except for my two girls (who I'm so glad I have).
When TheCottonHusband and I got married about 18 months ago, we did it in our backyard in November and we both wore jeans. We just wanted to be married, lol! (But we did want our parents and our daughters there).

My first marriage I did the Vegas thing. (very regrettable) The dress was bought from an Indian merhcant at the fairgrounds in LA. All cotton, very pretty,mid length. I had to get rid of it for the constant bad reminder.
Second one was traditional. Dress was sleeveless and floor length no train white of course and a smallish headpiece. Absoutly no regrets this time Happily married for 8 years this year.
Have thought about getting the dress altered and dyed purple so it can be worn more than once It was the perfect dress and the first one I tried on. Went to 2 other bridal places before coming back to the original. |
