$300 at Fleet Farm and then I bought the extra basket for the front. I'll cart the kids behind it in our modified stroller (thank heavens I have a husband who welds!)

Last wednesday I rode it the 6 miles to and from town to pick up our CSA shares and it rode really nicely! I also got for it a mirror, a light, a spedometer/odometer/clock and a bottle holder for my choice of hydration. Oh and a lock. I'm thrilled about it, moreover I am thrilled to not drive as much as I can get by with! Sure will keep me in shape through this pregnancy!!

what are you doing to circumvent the gas squeeze?

Tasha! I LOVE your new set of wheels!!! I have been looking for a bike and had one of these in mind! Can you get it up to a good speed (for a good heart-rate?) I am very interested in your darling bike! Good for you Tasha! XO

Nice trike! My mil has one, but I found it incredibly unwieldy the couple of times I tried riding it. Maybe that's because the seat is enormous (like a kiddie tricycle). I would like to ride my bike to work, but I'm just not comfortable riding in heavy traffic. There have been 3 bicyclists killed in my county so far this spring! My husband wants to start biking to work, and I'm really nervous about it.

Wow Tasha, how long of a bike ride would 12 miles be? {{blushing}} been a while since I biked, but that sure sounds like a long ride.....Maybe not

You may encourage me to take the "long" ride :)

GaiasRose Posted - Apr 29 2008 : 07:42:14 AM
yes karin you go get it! That is specifically the point in me getting this one! for picking up our CSA shares, going to town for the afternoon for in town needs, the hardware store, the herbal store, pay the cell bill, the fabric/quilt store, etc.

Thus the baskets and the three wheels to hold the load of the big basket. keep notes Karin about how much money you are spending on fuel to go into town...that ought to convince him. it sure did, convince Rob!

It helps that I live in the Paul Bunyan Trail, which is railroad grade and mostly flat. I am 6 miles out of town and 1/2 mile from the highway, so a round trip just using those figures is 13 miles!

I could bike up to the thrift-12 miles North, making a 25 mile round trip including the dirt road (the hardest part of the trip because the bike is only 1 gear...) but I think being pregnant is going to prevent that.

I should elaborate regarding my St. Paul Minneapolis cycle ride daily. It was 23 miles one direction and a number of hills as I lived in down town STP and there are a lot of hills (think Summit Ave those of you fairly familiar w/ STP, OY!) lots of car traffic but even more cycle traffic. MN is the top state when it comes to the number of people who cycle daily for their transportation! that's something to be proud of!

Karin-go get that trike girlie!! save your pocketbook and your hind end (I can't wait to see the results after the summer ends, even though I'll be roughly the size of a barge by the end of September...lol! there's next summer too though to finish off the baby poundage!)

That is awesome!!! I am looking for a bike at the thrift! I seen one a while back and I was in a bad mood and it was raining and I passed on it and have been kicking myself ever since........ I only live a few blocks from the little local store so my feet work also, but I think it would be lots of fun to have a bike. Unfortunately I live 10 miles one way from work and the larger town with lots of stores.

I have been only going to the store on Thursday and incorporating it into my commute to work. I do "sneak" a thrift store run on lunch every once in a while. However I have also tried to limit these, I clocked the miles to run to the thrift and it was 5 miles round trip [not a lot, until you mulitply it times 5 days] that is an extra 25 miles a week. I really believe it is the "small" trips that can add up and we don't even realize it!

I'm so jealous! I was telling my DH, just the other day, that if I had a bike like that I could take it to the grocery store. He just rolled his eyes and said "Uh-huh." I don't think I will be getting one.
I'm so glad you did though! You go girl! :)

If I lived closer to town I would own one of those. I'm 10 miles out with lots of hills. I have scaled back on my trips to town to conserve gas. I keep a big list of items needed and places to go, and try to do them all in one trip. Not only saves gas, but I have more time at home.

Zan, I use to live in St. Paul and worked in Minneapolis. No car. when I didn't ride publi transport because of rain or just being tired, I rode my bike-a 2wheeler then. It's a lot safer than one might think. As long as you obey traffic laws as required most car drivers in urban areas know to pay attention to cyclists!

Jonni, it is a Schwinn ;)

Tasha,
Love Love Love your new wheels!!! Wish I had one myself... it's been on my list of wants for about 2-3 years now... my biggest problem is where to store it, as we have limited space in our small home and I wouldn't want it sitting outside getting all rusted. I'd love a 3 wheel one like yours, but I think a 2 wheel is probably more practical for my storage situation. Enjoy! and b.t.w congrats on the pregnancy!

Fleet Farm is a Farm and Fleet store...tack and garden and livestock and such...I'm sure you have something like it by you, Jonni.

It has proven itself to be incredibly handy thus far and I am excited to see it through the summer!

Oh, that is just to cute - wish I had one to ride - I'm afraid I couldn't make it all the way to town on it though - a lil' to far!! I know your basket is for all those practical goodies you are going to fetch - but wouldn't it be so cute to put flowers in there!!! OH, and congratulations on your soon to be new addition. Blessings to you and your growing family.
