Posted - Apr 21 2008 : 7:19:19 PM Nancy Jo, here's a picture of my "heirloom" potholders on display, in my messy pantry. I keep meaning to post a photo of my latest thrift shop treasures, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I hope this works. I obeyed instructions, but I'm not too successful at this.....Karin

Posted - Apr 23 2008 : 10:55:51 AM I saw a pantry once where they had taken the cupboard door frames and cut out the inner wood and instead put up chicken wire! It was SOOO cute! I loved it. I have a picture that my grandma did- she took a frosted piece of glass, painted some chicks on it, the put chicken wire over the painted chicks and framed it. Wouldn't it be fun to do that on some upper shelves where the paint wouldn't get scratched? you could have little baby chicks behind chicken wire running around the top of your kitchen or pantry! :D

Posted - Apr 23 2008 : 10:09:22 AM Nightmare Pantry sounds like it should be a reality canning show on the food network.
I had three separate nightmares last night, so this title gave me a jump when I saw it this morning. I don't want to preserve them, thanks!
But your pantry is nice and cheerful. Love the potholders. I feel better just looking at it. |

Posted - Apr 23 2008 : 08:12:17 AM Like Jenny, pantry is in the basement. It is nice and cool, so food lasts longer. Nothing exciting...we have stainless shelves and buckets lining the walls.
When I have had the pantry you have, I made some curtains to cover the bottom shelves. The top I used all of my fun jars and filled them with grain and what not.
Cute potholders too!

Posted - Apr 22 2008 : 7:06:57 PM Karin, Your pantry is functional not messy. Those potholders are adorable. I have a small collection of ones my grandmothers made. What a neat way to display them. I might have to try something like that with mine. I have trouble keeping my pantry organized. I think those are standard issue jars. I have some too, got them at Walmart....where else? I did pick up a couple this past weekend at the thrift real cheap. They have plastic lids and say golden harvest. I thought they might look nice with the rest. They are nice and big. The price was right anyway.

Posted - Apr 22 2008 : 6:44:24 PM KARIN, Well you have such a nice collection going I would love to add to it. As far as you making me a potholder, well now you know I would love that, but I have a beautiful pillow from you that I still can't get over, I mean that was a wonderful gift. I show it to everyone who comes by. Did you get the new MJ magazine yet? Or are you going to? It sure is a winner. I hope you get to see it soon if you haven't already. NANCY JO

Posted - Apr 22 2008 : 1:35:12 PM Nancy Jo, I am a big fan of Monk as well. I wish i could be a little compulsive about cleaning, but it just isn't going to happen. I try to keep the paths clear, and having a pantry is a great help. Carol Sue, years ago i used to go to this second hand store with my mother, and the lady who owned it had the most amazing collection of stuff, lots of wonderful looking old toys(too expensive for me) but the things I loved the best were these pot holders some old lady she knew made. They were patchwork, with the tiniest pieces of fabric, and heavily oversewn. My mom and I used to fight over them. I gave away most of mine over the years, but I still have a couple. I always pictured this old lady down in the basement, chained to a sewing machine. I aim to create some nightmare pot holders like hers some day! Karin

Posted - Apr 22 2008 : 09:52:18 AM kARIN, I bet you can make them. You are a handy girl! Maybe you could make them to look like aprons. Now about that pantry, if I lived next door I would be over there. You see I'M a lot like that detective guy "MONK", HAVE YOU SEEN THAT PROGRAM? If so you understand how I'm not exactly sane. You know I think I have some crochet thread, maybe I should see If I can make something that looks anything like an apron. If I don't mention it agian we don't need to bring the subject up. NANCY JO
