honey hunk and i ambled 'down the hill' to the edge of the woods .. just beyond the lazy little creek .. and chose a spot for our new
'camping platform'.

we found a lovely flat-ish spot amidst the trees and marked off about a 20 x 15 foot area .. and we're going to have sugarbucket and family come build us a wooden platform t'wixt and t'ween the trees.
we'll use the two trees in the front as the 'entrance' .. and we'll put large WOOD pillars for the back stakes.
we're going to have a TIN ROOF put over it .. to protect from rain .. but probably no 'permanent' sides .. after all .. we want to be 'outdoors' .. just don't want to have to put up a TENT every time .. and don't want snakes and ticks sleepin' with us. (HA! they will probably find us anyway!) i DID manage to have a tick leap onto me while down there today! and i still haven't done a 'full body check' after coming out of the woods!
the little creek runs two sides of the proposed platform .. we're going to have both a 'rustic' bridge built over it . .and pile STONES for a 'waterway' to the site too.
Can hardly wait until all the grands and great grand come to visit and go 'camping'! AND .. we're really excited about jus' the two of us being down there too .. all alone with the forest critters up close and personal.

Frannie I love cooking on a firepit, I have enjoyed cooking on my old woodburning cookstove also! Those hooks sound nice, I cant' wait to see pictures of your firepit "in action"!!!

My antique washing machine. It's really neat, basket pulls out and you lay clothes down and place basket back and rock back and forth..... Waaa Laaaa....
Old walking wheel my mom gave me. Learning to spin on it is fun.
My most prized possession. My woodburning cookstove. My mom gave this to me last summer. She was so excited about using it, and then we found out she was sick. We got to heat up a pot of coffee on it and sit and talk just about 3 weeks before she passed away on Thanksgiving morning. So this little cookstove is very precious to me.

Eastern Washington has snakes - it's pretty dry over there in the summer, but Western Wa doesn't have many - just a few little garden snakes. I guess it's too wet!

OH MIKKI .. THAT IS JUST ABSOLUTELY DEVINE!!! gonna' go check out your dutch ovens. i'm looking into a local man making some wonderful iron swingiing pot hooks for our firepits.

What a great idea! I love my little cabin in the woods. I finally got my antique woodburning cookstove installed this past fall. I love it, sure made it cozy this past winter. Here is the backside of the cabin after crossing the creek and as your walking up the trail from my house, the front side has a porch down the length of the cabin. We're just finishing up a small bridge today to put across the creek. I will try to post pictures later. I love camping out but we stay in our camper or the cabin now. I love cooking over the fire pit tho' and when we go camping (in the camper,lol) I always cook over an open fire with my dutch ovens. I actually have several photos on my blog of dutch oven cooking I done last spring. Yummy food!

nancy jo .. it's VERY shady in there once the trees all get their leaves .. will probably just use 'nature's floor' for our 'plantings .. tooooo far away to run down with buckets of water to water even impatiens in the summertime when we don't get rain.
we haven't decided about 'sides' yet. i saw a wonderful photo of a similar wooden platform tent site .. and it had WONDERFUL quilts/blankets/fabric siding that could be pulled back. hank likes the idea of NOT having sides .. sez if we want to pitch a tent .. we can pitch a tent .. this way .. we get the experience of 'outdoors' (with a roof) in case of rain .. yet .. we can still see the treetops and stars because the roof will be high.
will probably go to one of those big camping outlet stores to come up with some good, sturdy weather-proof furniture for it. might put a picnic table down there too.

well .. we sure do have snakes here ..don't see a lot of them .. but i am wondering about down by that creekbed! AND .. i pulled FIVE .. .TICKS off of me after my romp in the woods today! sure hope there aren't any more hidin' in my hair! xo

Frannie, that looks like the perfect site for a yurt. The folks on the Oregon Coast have them at some campsites. They look really cozy. No snakes that I know of on the coast, just lots of other varmits. |

DH made the fire ring. He also designed the big grate that goes across it and the things that hold it to make it higher or lower over the fire. He's such a handy man.

Looking down at the site from our deck. It will not be to long and the trees will prevent us from seeing the cabin during the summer.
This is the path leading to our prairie/garden area where we used to camp before building on the hill.
This is at the end of that path looking back at the camping spot. You see a pile of wood, a space , then a green out house. The concrete pad for the cabin is in between them.
This would be looking out the front door of the cabin at the fire pit which DH has made with adjustable grate for when the whole gang is here for a cook out or camping.
I have about 8 flower gardens in various stages of maturity but all are in need of some TLC this summer as they have been on their own for 2+ years. Shame on me.....

Very Cool Frannie! We have an area where we used to camp before we built our house. It's our goal this year to put up a Cabin (Shed with living space)so we can go back to those quiet nights in the camper nights, cooking over the fire, listening to the peepers and Owls. It is so fun! And romantic!
