on this incredibly beautiful morning .. i find i'm feeling very proud to be an American .. and it is uppermost in my mind.

after watching the John Adams' movie on tv .. i am thankful to all those who came before me .. to those who formed our wonderful country. let's all remember to exercise the rights that our FREEDOM allows us by getting out to vote our choice.

remember at this important time .. that it is WE THE PEOPLE who put our representatives (politicians) in office in Washington, D.C. .. and remember too .. that POLITICIANS .. every one of them .. come from our STATES .. not from Washington, D.C. and most, by far, have their own 'home state' office too.

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- don't confuse the CITY .. with the MAN. Most 'residents' of D.C. are African-Americans.

I have witnessed many, many honest, hard-working politicians. And i believe it is up to US to vote them out of office if we don't like what they are doing. That's what democracy is all about.

ohhh .. and i love that the word "US" reminds me of our United States.

i had the privilege to have worked for incredibly wonderful 'presidential appointees' from various states of our Union .. in various Government Departments and Bureaus ... and not one of them came from .. or lived in .. Washington, D.C. ---
(both democratic and republican Presidents made these appointments) ..

have ya'll ever visited OUR "Nation's Capitol"? The FEDERAL TRIANGLE is probably about the prettiest city in the United States. I am so proud of our country and our leaders. They are jus' ordinary people who have reached extra-ordinary postions in our Government .. of the people .. by the people .. and for the people.

REMEMBER that as citizens of the United Sates ... we are a FREE nation .. because of "WE" who put "OUR" politicians in leadership positions. And VOTE your choices!

i trooooooooooly don't say all this to start a 'political debate' .. or 'take sides' .. God knows, we're all entitled to our political beliefs .. i'm thankful that "WE" .. through our country's politicians ... gave us that right). And it is this very freedom of beliefs (and the right to talk about them) that allows us to speak publicly about VOTING (or even our choices) .. AND about those we put in power ... and not be 'beheaded'

with the elections coming up soon .. i believe it is up to all of us to listen to .. and check the records of ... our future leaders .. and decide who we think we would most like to be in power for awhile .. and VOTE that choice.

I know it can get very daunting .. but i also believe it is our privilege and responsibility.

oh .. and we also have the 'right' to turn the TV off .. or put the newspaper down .. i have a little wooden flag painted with this sign that i just cherish:

IT IS WONDERFUL
THAT IN AMERICA
WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

IT IS EQUALLY WONDERFUL
THAT THERE ARE NO LAWS
THAT REQUIRE US TO LISTEN TO IT.

VOTE GURLFRENZ .. VOTE!

XO, Miz American-Pie Frannie

GOD LOVES .. AND .. I LOVE .. AMERICA!

amie .. yes .. i did 'duplicate' and then 'delete' more than what i intended to .. (fingers were flyin' faster than my brain!) went right into my 'new stuff' when i deleted the olde. what i was sayin' is that when people complain about WASHINGTON, D.C. .. i don't want anyone to ever think that the residents are 'the problem' they are complaining about. 'the man' is usually 'the politician' they are complaining about .. but i lived and worked in d.c. for many years .. and like any big city . .there are beautiful parts and not so beautiful parts. but the PEOPLE are beautiful. the african-americans who moved to d.c. were my close friends .. we lived and worked side by side. i treasure them and our careers together. I worked and lived with not only the (mainly) caucasian people from 'off' (NOT FROM D.C.) .. but with my precious african-american friends who lived and worked there. And want to make FOR SURE that no one thinks of them as 'the problems' of Washington, D.C. I think living in areas where there are many races and religions has taught me tolerance and understanding that i don't always see 'outside the beltway'. And yes, i find LOUISVILLE and other BIG CITY traffic (CINCINNATTI) beltways to be as daunting as D.C. And yes, in a way, you do get 'used' to the traffic .. especially if you live outside the beltway and work in D.C. or need to get from one end of d.c. to the other .. the beltway 'can be' the faster choice.

hope that explains it more. gosh, it would be so grande to all be sitting her and sharing our thoughts and askin' questions of each other about our upbringing and lives. That is what i believe teaches understanding and tolerance.

frannie, what was the point you were making here? It looks like maybe some text got left out, or maybe your thoughts took a jump?

I've visited the DC area a couple of times, and it is a really odd experience to find so many parks and museums in such a small area at the heart of the city. I don't think I could live with the beltway traffic (literally, I'd get myself killed immediately) but maybe you get used to it...

have you gurlz ever researched the 'background' .. the 'bringin' up' of your representatives .. they sure weren't BORN 'politicians' .. gosh .. nope! never yet seen a baby pop out with a big seeeeeegar in their mouth ... or reciting the Declaration of Independence! (for me ... EDUCATION is the KEY! .. with compassion and understanding not far behind). there are politicians who were dirt poor, filthy rich .. and most .. in-between.

they are mostly 'mid-american' in their roots. they are from all walks of life .. former preachers, teachers, businessmen/women, farmers, ranchhands, small business owners .. and about every walk of life there is. most 'work' their way up the ladder!!! but i believe it takes a special person to actually WANT to do 'public service'. sometimes it is truly a 'thankless' job .. and they get 'blamed' for things that are out of their control. but it doesn't stop most of them from working long and hard hours .. and EDUCATING themselves on the issues facing america in order to continue making a better america.

i've been dirt-poor and i've had a few pennies jingling in my pockets .. there's not much difference when it comes to 'common sense' .. but (and here i go again .. EDUCATION is so very important). isn't that why we want good schools for our children. it expands their knowledge of issues and ways to work towards solutions .. in this day and age .. i sure wouldn't want to live in a country where the MASSES were un-educated people .. if we look around the world .. we can see .. that leads to mass poverty and prejudice.

i graduated from HIGH SCHOOL. period! the end! i had to go to work right after graduation to help put food on the table. i was blessed, i believe, to have been born and raised in Washington, D.C. .. where there is such great opportunity for you if you are willing to work and be dedicated.

there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being happy in our 'little spot' in this universe, world, america .. but when i vote .. i want someone who has good knowledge of lots of issues .. gosh .. national security being a BIGGIE .. and i've seen that in action too and am so very thankful that we have had intelligent people working towards democracy .. and making sure that OURS is not taken away from us.

our politicians (in my belief) have to have a very good understanding of issues other than jus' what is happening in their home town. this is a GLOBAL world .. and we need to put people in office to represent us that understands more than 'what they know locally'. it is important that we on the 'local level' in our hometowns and cities across the nation .. take care of 'business' in our own backyards THAT TOO .. is important! the LOCAL ..

but NEVER, EVER lose sight of the 'big picture'.

HALLELUJAH .. AMEN!

OH MY . .I'M HAVING SUCH FUN! i adore when i gather with gurlfrenz and we can talk our passions t'il the cows come home!

ohhh .. don't get me started on our children and our elderly. (and those, i do believe, start as soon as we 'pop' out and blink at a bright new life.

lisa .. well said! i know another saying that i found to be true ..

POWER CORRUPTS!
ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY!

I think that is why it is up to us 'citizens' to educate ourselves about the representatives we send to represent us!

when i worked for Congresswoman Dwyer (from New Jersey) on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. .. i watched her do amazing things for her constituents .. she became as familiar with their wants and needs as they with hers. She used her knowledge and intelligence to bring as many changes as she could that she felt would impact her district in a positive way. It 'behooves' each of us to do the very same thing with OUR representatives. If we don't see something we like .. tell them so .. and WORK to effect change and get the word out to our communities.

This surely is not to say that ALL will ALWAYS be well. But if we as citizens don't take an EDUCATED and ACTIVE role .. then (in my opinion) .. we have NO right to COMPLAIN.

I so believe in the 'good' in humans .. I've seen wonderous things happen because of 'the people and their politician representatives'. I had the honor of working directly on the CIVIL RIGHTS BILL .. giving rights to ALL people regardless of race, color or creed. AND YES .. it does not come without 'working out the glitches' .. there is simply no 'magic' twinkling of the nose to make overnight MAGIC.

I was a 'secretary' .. not one of the 'policy makers' .. but even as a 'secretary' . .my VOICE was heard with policy-makers! I've never been one to be silent about my passions .. but ONLY after educating myself with the facts.

AND STILL it does not necessarily mean that MY beliefs were ABSOLUTE .. it still simply made it MY BELIEF.

ohhhh . the wonderous stories i can tell about watching 'ordinary citizens' effect powerful CHANGE for the good of America! i think my most favorite of my entire career was when the first three women applied to become FBI agents.

J. Edgar Hoover was the head of the FBI at that time and surely wasn't going to let them in! My boss, who headed the CIVIL DIVISION at Justice was the attorney at the time.

AT THAT TIME IN HISTORY .. we lost the battle .. (HA! DEEP THROAT was the FBI representative for the case .. and -- right in the middle of the meeting, i put my pad and pen down (i was taking dictation) and ... i challenged him to "indian hand wrestling" to 'prove' to him that there are some women who are as strong (and stronger) than some men! Well, the pasty-faced little 'sob' about broke my arm off!!!

BUT .. when HOOVER died .. 'my boss' became the head of the FBI!!! and one of the very FIRST things he did was to open the doors to female FBI agents. Sometimes it takes time .. but change does happen.

i watched as Martin Luther King marched to bring about 'change' .. that all children could go to schools regardless of their color. THAT was an amazing time in history. GOD BLESS AMERICA and those who we send to 'represent' us. xo

Frannie, I love the saying on your little wooden flag. I just might use that in something I make.

I stress the privelege of voting to my daughter and her friends, especially. I tell them that as women they must vote because there was a time when they were not allowed to vote. I tell them about all the women who suffered physical attacks and humiliation at the hands of their fathers and husbands as well as the public. And even imprisonment for trying to get us the right to vote. I tell them that all those women who suffered such awful consequences would be heartbroken to think that any woman would not jump at the chance to vote after all they did to make it possible for them. I believe, as women, we have a duty to vote; not only to support our favorite politician (or the lesser of the evils) but to support those women who got us this right in the first place.
