forgot to tell you gals..that I did get a job..a little part time something..to get out of the house a bit..
I had applied at the kmart garden shop..but decided afterwards that I'd rather try something else..
so..I wound up getting a job at our local Cookies by Design shop.
I start on Monday afternoon at 2.
Have not worked outside of the home in 18 yrs. but this should be a fun/easy way to ease back into things.
Wish me luck. I'm excited about it.
I'll be cashier/customer service/get to make cookie bouquets.close the store in the evenings and more..probably even bake and decorate on occasion.
Anyhow..that's the latest news here.
----------------------------------------Well, my boss called last night when I was out doing errands with hubby, and she told daughter to tell me to call on Monday..I was "supposed" to go in today at 2 but she told daughter to have me just call on Monday..any how I went ahead and called this afternoon cause I knew something was up and really had a feeling she had hired me without really thinking about her financial/business situation.
So...well I guess I'm doing the 'work for a day" experience...ha. The job didn't pan out..the lady admitted that her business is failing and she can't afford to hire anyone and is afraid that she'll be out knocking on doors herself soon. I told her that I had a feeling that was the case when we only had 3 customers in 2 1/2 hrs and the total sales were less than $30 and she was trying to have 3 employees/plus pay her overhead/plus pay the guy she bought the business from that to have that little amount of income coming in and trying to pay employees with nothing coming in wasn't going to be feasible..and she said yes..I should have looked at it better but I am in over my head right now basically and really struggling.
And am afraid I may have to shut the doors soon here.
She said that if the tide changes that of course she'd hire me again in a heartbeat cause she liked me and my attitude and all.
So anyhow..that was that. I went around today to about 9 different stores getting applications. So..something should pan out.
I'm a bit frustrated/bummed because I did want to work at the cookie shop..but such is life.
And my last experience prior to this one was with a horrible lady/situation..and didn't pan out either..at least this gal was sweet about things but I wish she'd have been 100 percent honest with me before she tried hiring me..that she really couldn't afford to hire anyone right now.Sigh..anyhow..the search is on again.

I am going to send you the plan for the chicken house. Well, as soon as I figut=re out what the plan was. I'm rather a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of builder. lol

OK Tina this will make you feel better.. 8 months ago i left my "career" -call it mid life crisis..... after about 6 months, I heard of another job, that was 30 hours... at a farm office.. sounds perfect right? So I applied.. had a "nothin' to loose" conversation with the Farm Manager about what I could handle and couldnt... and got the job anyway :)..... day 1 - went to work - the manager met me at the door - and said... "Oh is this the day you come on board? I am not ready for you, can you come back tomorrow?".....)red flag # 1).... day 2-5 I sat in the waiting room as there was no office.. week 2 - another manager told me that "he thought" my office would be down stairs - So I spent the next week cleaning out an old storage room ( literally- dust 4" thick, old files, broken farm equipment - made a makeshift desk) got it looking pretty good... with a promise of the GM that he and I would meet 1st thing MOnday morning of week 3 - I was feeling.. well hopeful............Monday morning - No GM.. at noon - I was told by a passer-byer that he wasnt even in town... later that day his secretary said.. hey, "he wants to meet tomorro".. OK I said... Tue, wed, thu, no GM.... Thur afternoon I packed my stuff up and handed in my letter of resignation.........he noticed I was gone a week later :) ahahahah..... Lordy! sometimes things present themself just to show us what we DONT want... ahahhaha

hi Amie..I wasn't given a chance to give it a few weeks before I bailed..ha. I was only given 2 1/2 hrs on what was supposed to have been a 20 hr. week. See above. it didn't work out she couldn't afford to hire me to even begin to train me.
I had to bail before 2 weeks.

Tina, I am so sorry, I know how stressful that can all be....I love that even when you are feeling love, you sing "keep to the sunny side" that says a lot about your character... things have a way of "straightening out".

Many businesses have seasonal highs and lows. Maybe she knows she has a busy time coming up, and it just hasn't quite hit yet. Or you may need more training before you can help with what she needs done. I think your husband is right that you should give it a few weeks before you bail.

I do hope that it works out and she is able to give me 20 hrs a week..this week was frustrating though..I know that sounds funny..but I had to psych myself up to even go around to various places to apply for work this past week..and when I talked to my new boss she assured me that she'd be able to give me 20 hrs a week.
But..when I went in yesterday prepared to work a 4 hr. shift and expecting to be told my scedule for the week..hoping for more 4 hr days to fill up the week..I didn't get that..I only got to put in 2 1/2 hrs yesterday.
So..I am a bit bummed today as I was really hoping to get in there and be put to work for my 20 hrs a week as mentioned.
Ahh well... hubby said to give her a couple of weeks to start giving me the 20 hr weeks like she had verbally promised..and if she doesn't then talk to her about it..and if she can't afford me..then look elsewhere.
So..I'll follow hubbies advice..and cross my fingers that I learn fast and she's pleased and will want to give me the hours she had promised.
What was troubling was that in the 2 1/2 hrs we only saw 3 customers with sales at less than $30 for all 3 customers total.:0( So..the shop definitely needs to do some serious marketing/advertising to survive.
And she's trying to have 3 employees not counting herself. So we shall see.

LOL!! That's so funny....gotta taste every cookie in the shop...one more reason why I couldn't work there. I'd want to taste the WHOLE cookie..I'm proud of you..you are putting that sweet stuff in it's place. Now go sell it to everyone that walks through the door..LOL

This just really sounds like a FUN job!

today there was a darling bouquet..full of red rose cookies..very pretty.
Then tomorrow a patriotic themed one goes out to a State rep. in the capital.
I was sent home with one of every kind of cookie that we sell so that I can taste them and be able to let the customers know what they are like..oi..and here I was hoping to not have to actually eat the cookies to work there..ha..but my boss wants me to be familiar with the product..so..that means I have to taste them so I can talk them up.
next day I go in to work is Thursday and I have to sign a confidentiality paper...so..sorry gals..but I won't be able to tell any secrets.
