I'm just so proud of myself because today for the VERY first time in my life, I mowed the lawn all by myself. I get tired of nagging DH to do it and I grew up with three brothers a dad AND my mom who all did the mowing so I never really had to. Anyway, I breaked about three times ( wich is funny cuz it's a tiny back yard) and when I was done i was POOPED! I told my brother ( who I ussually pay to mow for me) that next time I'm gonna pay him a couple hundred to mow. It's waaaay more tiring than it looks when those big ole' guys do it..
So anyway, just sharing my victory with you girls! Oh by the way, to make it sound even more impressive, Its a NON slef propeled push mower! Am I the only weenie that hasn't done this before?????

WHEW! Three teenage boys in the house? I bet you stay busy cooking non-stop! Really, goats would be much less hassle... You could just throw them some scraps everyday...But now that I think of it, thats about how teenage boys eat so...I think it's all about the same : )

I used to have to mow the lawn all the time . . . and at the time we didn't have a self-propelled mower either. I actually enjoyed it though, as it was my "thinking" time. We had a huge yard. In recent years we have moved to a home on a steep hill. We now have a self propelled, but it is still hard to mow without literally tipping over the lawn mower! But I solved the problem! We had three boys! LOL! They are all 3 teenagers now and I haven't mowed a lawn in 4 years! Not sure the food bill is worth it sometimes though! Maybe I should have gotten a goat instead?! LOL!

we are actually trying to eliminate grass with gardening areas..makes more sense to grow things that sustain than to have to baby a lawn all the time..but..I do like a little patch of green to walk through and toss a blanket on though for an impromptu picnic on the lawn.

I used to mow until my son hit 12 and now he does it-most of the time.
Our yard is small, so it doesn't take long to do.
When I was a kid, my dad and brother did it on the riding mower. Dad only made me do it once, and I ran the new mower into one of our trees. (Hey, I panicked when it wouldn't turn correctly-I hit the gas, not the brake)
Never had to mow again until I got my own house.
I don't mind it, I guess, but I would much rather walk the dog than mow, to get some exercise.

yah, I was really feeling macho when I was pushing the mower around...not trying to burn calories really but I was like, hey, this could be a great workout for the rear! : )

I have mowed since I was big enough to push the lawn mower- but we always had the self propelled versions. It still was a huge work out for me, especially when I was little- just trying to keep up with the think! Now we have an electric mower that isn't self propelled. It is even more of a workout but I love thinking of all those little calories that are burning up!

Yay for you! I have only mowed our yard once, and then my hubby made it clear that he did not want me taking over his territory. Hmmm. I think its because he can completely block out everything around him and take that time to ponder over his thoughts. That, or he doesn't have to deal with the 500 other things I have planned for him. ha ha

YAY!!! I always envy those that mow their yards!!! I can't because of allergies but I take a good whif when others are mowing their yards and I take a walk.

My mother in law likes to mow also. She stopped doing any kind of housework or cooking years ago, but she kept mowing right up until she sold her house. She said that she had trouble walking, and she'd rather walk behind the mower than a walker. Which really didn't make us feel comfortable about her doing it! |

I've never mowed in my life, either. Growing up my mother always insisted it was my father's job, and was afraid us girls would hurt ourselves if we tried.  So now I can't WAIT until I have a yard of my own (after I move, hopefully!!) so I can get out there and mow!! Or...if I get lazy...I might just put the horses out; they'll make quick work of it!

My mom LOVES to mow her yard. And they live smack in the middle of ten acres! My brothers all admired that trait in her! I dont htink they mowed the yard as many times as mom did : ) I think she just likes the SUN therapy though. Man, she really kicked butt this past few months. She did all the yard work to get ready for my sisters outdoor wedding. She had that yard in ship shape! I cant wait till she posts pics on her blog! Maybe i'll be as good as her one day : )

I do all the mowing and yard work at our place. But that's just because it's a small yard and I use a non-power mower. Anything that has a carburetor is definitely my husband's responsibility. |

It's good exercise, Rebekah. I mow my 86 year old dad's grass once a week. It's either me or nobody in this case. My brother doesn't even mow his own grass. And there don't seem to be any kids interested in doing that sort of thing anymore. :(

Way to go, Rebekah! I didn't know there were so many gals who don't mow the grass. Being the oldest of 4 kids and now, particularly fussy about the length of the grass, I've always mowed it. But then, I look for ANY excuse to be outside.

It really did feel great to add that to my list of "CAN DO's". I hope he doesn' think I'm going to make this a habit though...I just got a wild hair today for some reason and wanted to give it a try. But BOY was I exhausted afterward! I think I'll put this new learned talent in the " only in emergencies " catagory. : )

I hear ya! I got sick of sounding like a nagging broken record and started mowing the lawn myself last summer. We've got a riding mower, though, so it's not hard work-- just steering, but it's the baking sun that gets me!

Good for you!! I did the same thing to surprise my husband a couple of years ago, with the non self propelled mower and 'bout had a heart attack! My first time was my last time thank you very much! But he did think it was sweet that I did it. I think I might have gotten flowers out of it even.
