gurlfrenz .. i have lotsa' pictures to post .. soooooo .. i'm gonna' continue our adventures (with photos) and stories in e-mails to my 'true friends' list .. as we visited THE HOMEPLACE on Green River .. a 'hands-on' lesson of history as well as experience of farm life, past, present and future.

then to the Abbey of Gethesemani .. a wonderful oasis of peace where Trappist Monks live .. they make DEVINE cheeses and fudge and 'fruitcake'. We had a fantastic tour led by one of the elderly brothers.

jus' e-mail to get on my 'true friends' list to receive these via e-mail. xo

after talking with the 'farmer' .. and hearing all about the operations of his farmlife .. we boarded back on the bus and all headed down the road a bit .. passed Abraham Lincoln's early-childhood (2 - 7years of age) cabin .. then entered the quaint little town of HODGENVILLE .. with a magnificent statue of Abraham Lincoln in the middle of their "SQUIRCLE" .. as they call it .. used to be a town 'square' .. they 'rounded' it into a 'circle' .. sooo . .they call it a SQUIRCLE! didn't get off the bus here .. i've been here many, many times .. they have a delightful lincoln musuem here too!

That must of been such a fun trip! We have a lot of old barns around this area. We also have a little one room schoolhouse they made into a museum. One of the residents took pictures of all the old barns in the area. What beautiful pictures, and of course they are right here so it was fun to see how many we knew.I bet you had a wonderful time, your pictures were so nice. I loved the goats and the kitty ones too! Thanks for sharing.

When DH an I were on our southern motorcycle tour last summer we saw so many beautiful farms and barns. They were so awesome. We have a few left here in Wisconsin but they are dwindling fast. Glad you had a good time.

this is only the second family to ever own this farm .. the original owners were a family named: LaRue for which the County was named after.

he used to grow lots of acres of tobacco .. but prices are low now and he only grows 25 acres of it .. the rest is corn, soybeans and other crops.

we arose bright and early .. and headed for BARDSTOWN .. for a yummy breakfast at MAMMY's restaurant on main street.

after a coupla' cups-a-coffee .. we headed around the corner to the sweet MARKET facade where a 'farmer's market is held three times a week .. spring/summer/autumn! (gonna' start hitting that one too! we have one in campbellsville that we usually go to .. and several local farmers that we buy our fresh produced directly from .. here in green county!) we especially love the MATER MAN .. who sits on the square all summer selling tomatoes and watermellons!

met up with about 50 other folks at the BIG BUS ... and headed for a large privately-owned farm in HODGENVILLE.

pictures comin'! xo

NC is doing the same thing

Mom and I stopped by a new farmers market near Raleigh last week and picked up a nice booklet on the farms and their tours.

Wish we had the time to be included

Have fun Frannie!

oh gurlfrenz .. there jus' has to be wonderful things like this all over the country! we almost didn't know this was happening .. there is no 'same-day' delivery newspapers in our area .. soooo .. we have our local newspaper 'mailed' .. and it arrives a day or two later .. but then .. it's not NATIONAL late-breaking news .. jus' local stuff. we were on our way to the movies when we picked up the mail and i saw this tour was happening. saw the 'deadline' was two days earlier .. but quickly called from the road anyway .. and sure enough .. there was till space for us! it's kinda' expensive .. $90. for the two of us (includes lunch at historic homeplace) .. but i guess with gasoline prices what they are now .. they have to ask that much .. we travel on a large, comfy bus from county to county.

i'm finding that gasoline prices are FINALLY getting my attention! it costs me well over a hundred dollars everytime i ride up to toledo to see the grandes! OUCH! that's a lotta' antiquin' money!!!

i fear these prices will never come back down again .. and i'm sure they have put the ki-bosh on a lot of travelling!

well, i'm up early this morning .. pulling together some little 'sewies' for the bus ride .. my hands are jus' about never still!

have a great weekend gurlfrenz! xo
