We're getting ready to plant peanuts. We just purchased no-till equipment but peanuts fare better when the land is broken up.

Haha! Here's how good of a farmgirl I am... I told my husband what I wrote about today and his response was tantamount to "Oh no you di'int!".
Apparently, ahem, he plowed yesterday - not disced. Post corrected but it'll take me a while to live this one down.

C'mon Miss Wilma! We'll go out in the field after they've all been picked and get the ones the picker missed, come home and roast 'em!
These are the BIG ones too... the "gourmet" peanuts.

Jennifer...As long as there is one of those roadhouse places (logan, texas, cattlemens, etc) I think there will be a market for peanuts. ;-) haha

I know!
I chose my name because peanuts are my favorite crop. They certainly don't bring us the most money, but this area is steeped in the tradition of planting peanuts. And when many other farmers have ceased planting them, we keep carrying on the tradition.

I wish we had pics from when my FIL got that 8300 stuck in the mud. We had to hook it up in one place to the 4255 and in another place to yet another tractor to pull it out. I'd have probably taken pics, but I was too busy being yelled at to "DRIVE! STOP! TURN! DRIVE! STOP!"

Nothing like the sight of heavy equipment, fresh dirt and wiggly toes in the springtime. I'm so envious, Jennifer. It's so wet here(another 4 inches forecast today) that if I took the Kubota into a field, I'd have to get the truck to pull it out. Then who would pull out the truck? It's just marshy, boggy, soggy messy! :(

All that lovely dirt, and those toes in the soil, it looks so great. We still have snow on the ground here, but the snowdrops are blooming and the daffodils are six inches out of the ground, so spring will eventually drag itself to the northeast. I always enjoy thhe pictures and your writing on your blog....Karin

I remember when I was in college and scouting cotton, some company came out with a song (on cassette tape!) promoting no-till. To this day, I can still hear that danged tune!

Jennifer - I enjoy reading your blog. I have to say that I've seen just about everything being planted, grown, but peanuts. So I feel like a kiddo reading the latest update in your blog. The farmers here are finishing up on their spring planting here in the next few weeks. No-till farming is really hitting big here these days and has proven successful.
