While the original idea was to produce the MaryJanesFarm Magazine without ads for as long as possible, I am really excited about the addition of the kinds of content-appropriate ads that will be in MJF in upcoming issues for the exact same reason that Frannie was asking about. MaryJane has complete and final say over who will purchase ads in her magazine. So, not only are the magazines going to be wonderful in their own right for their articles, pictures, ideas, and such, they are going to be guidebooks to trustworthy companies. (If you think about it, her past magazines were FULL of ads--free ads! She promoted another business or farmgirl on almost every page!) I feel that this change is going to get us voting with our pocketbooks on a whole new level!

Here are the companies who placed ads in the next issue. Girls, get to shopping! These are people who are supporting the farmgirl credo in a big way.

They purchased the inside front cover and back cover and a two-page spread inside (a feature about one of their dairy farmers).

i agree, alle, for all the little noras in the world. the take home message from me is that i think we all learned that we cannot rely on thecorporate folks to always,(ever?) tell us the truth.
i think it is so obscene for any company to think they can own seeds.
my bluegrass mentor was a seed saver and opened my mind to the whole concept of companies thinking they could own seeds and plants. i had no idea.
it is scary to me to know that the petrochemical folks would own seeds, plants, pharmaceutical companies and food companies.
that reminds me i still havent ordered any budget mix from maryjane.
at least i know her food products arent owned and engineered by monsanto.
and let me just say, i dont think folks who made their living in refineries were bad folks, they were just making their living and i might add not being told the dangers to them, their community and their families.
i think more the reason that consumers have to vote with their money and order products from folks like maryjane who are working hard to bring good products to us and to assure that they are not hurting the earth in the process. we do have choices, they are just sometimes a little harder to find....no large adverticing(brainwashing!!!oops!) budget.
i remember the first magazine of maryjanes that i picked up, i thought it was a little pricey, i looked through it, the articles and the photography were incredible! it was one of those "comin home " moments, but what hooked me was that she had chosen not to allow adds.
my dh, who is an old newspaper reporter said, she cant do that, thats where your money comes from in the print media, and i guess in a way he was right cause the magazine has to have ads now. but she tried and i know the ads will be from responsible companies.
anyway, we have to be diligent in these things, and support all the folks that are trying to do good work.
wonder if there are any web sites devoted to "good companies".?
do you know any alee?

PS- Frannie- That is horrible! I am so sorry that you lived in such a dangerous environment! I am hoping that as we all become more conscious of what we are doing to Mother Earth, those types of situations will become less and less. *hugs*

Just for those who don't know Monsato is the bioengineering "genius" who came up the the artificial bovine growth hormone rBGH that is injected into our cows to make them grow larger (more steaks) and produce scary amounts of milk each day.

Monsato also has bioengineered several crop varieties and then sued poor farmers who have fields next to where his crop is planted because of cross pollination/wind blown seeds growing in other fields. The story above is about the seeds.

thanks so much for sharing this, allee,,,,,and dont get me started!
i spent my first 20 years in the shadows of texas city, texas, in what was once a small farming community buttermilk junction, renamed La Marque by the time i lived there.
it became after world war II one of the largest petrochemical centers in the world, and also where they made all the dioxin during the vietnam war AND if that isnt enought, sight of MOTCO probably one of the most dangerous toxic waste sights in the us of a.
i have to laugh when people question whether or not we have global warming , cause in my opinion whether we do or not, the petrochemical industry has NOT been a good steward of the earth.
all ya have to do is look up the cancer statistics in areas that are refinery towns(my hometown has a 300%cancer rate for some cancers ) and you will know that the petrochemical folks have at the least, some splainin to do desi!
or just go visit texas city texas, go to there once downtown area, talk to the folks there and i would defy anyone to find a person who has not had cancer.
in my family of 4, we were not biologically related, but 3 of us had cancer and my dad had "bone cancer" for 10 years, which ended up to be bone marrow supression of "UNknown causes". they could not find a disease process in his body, just said his body acted like it had bone cancer and that her probably had been exposed to some kind of toxins. ummmmm, wonder what that could be.
anyway, thanks for the interesting topic, alle, and for letting me get off some steam. i havent lived in that area for 37 years, but i still have a little leftover steam when i think about what we all lived through in the name of profit....and i might add, we werent even seeing any of the profit, all the chemical big wigs lived in other parts of the country, including the person in charge of occupational hazards for monsanto. he thought it was safe to live by the chemical plants, but he didnt choose to raise his family there.
okay, i'm gettin off my high horse now.
