Yesterday I was taking a box to our Fed-Ex store. I was carrying Nora in one arm, the small box in the other, along with a cardbook that had the address in it.

Well, a whole line of cars stopped so I could cross the driving area in the parking lot so I started to hurry a across when I must have stepped on my pants leg or something as I tripped myself up. It was one of those times where your brain suddenly races into full gear. I was falling forward and Nora was going to hit the pavement and then I was going to land on top of her! So I tried to do a "catwoman" move mid air and twisted around while dropping. Nora ended up just sitting down hard and then falling backwards but with me holding her so her head didn't even hit the ground hard at all.

I however was not so lucky. I ripped a HUGE hole in my brand new jeans- and the fact that I was wearing jeans saved my knee from worse damage. I scraped my whole left knee bloody. Today, even though I cleaned it and put salve on it- it is swollen and painful. But Nora is fine which is all I care about.

She cried for about 2 seconds in fright but was quickly soothed and even pushed me away from her as I hugged her in sheer relief.

I am so glad it turned out well. I have used catwoman moves myself (in my younger days..haha) since I am known for being more than a little clumsy...its a wonder my kids survived!! Nora is lucky to have you!! I am sure the people understood that you were scared and worried about Nora.

Thanks for all the love and light everyone. Everyone was very kind. I feel bad that I was too frantic to return the kindness. My parents are right- they tell me I need to just SLOW DOWN! LOL

I just hate when I mess up like that in front of people! Remember at the farm? I always seem to land on my butt or my head. Either way, no harm done ;) I love the catwoman move! I'm glad you two are ok. Take care of that knee and use ice to keep the swelling down. Heal fast!

Yes, everyone that saw was asking "Are you okay? Is the baby okay?" and I was just so scared that I had hurt Nora that I was yelling "I'm okay and I don't know!" I hurried into Fed-Ex/Kinko's and checked Nora over. She was fine and only then did I realize that I was bleeding. She doesn't even have a mark on her.

I wish I hadn't been so scared. I would have thanked everyone for their concern. I just hope they don't think I was mad- I was just scared witless.

Wow, great mothering instincts Alee. Take good care of your knee - you sure don't want any infections! Did the people who had stopped in their cars get out to see if you were alright?

I'm just glad you reacted so quickly, Alee. When that 'mom instinct' kicks in, we become catwoman, wonderwoman or just super mom when the kids need us.

I am always amazed by the insticts of a mother. The little things we hear, feel, and do, in order to keep our kiddos safe. I'm glad you are both safe!

Alee - I am glad Nora is okay, but make sure you keep that knee clean! Really clean, since it was scraped open on pavement that was most dirty, I am sure. CLean it a couple of times a day for a few days, and put new bandages on it. Use ice for the soreness, when you get a chance to ice it. I even take an ice pack and wrap it on my hurt places with an ace bandage so I can wear it around. Hope it heals fast!

Oh, Alee! I'm so glad both you and Nora weren't hurt worse!!

My mother could empathize with that feeling you must have had trying to keep Nora from hitting the pavement--she fell in a parking lot when my sister was under a year old, and tried for all she was worth to keep her from hitting the ground. Wasn't quite successful, but in the end everything was fine.

Hugs to both of you!!! And hope your knee heals soon!

Alee,

So glad that no one was seriously hurt. I did something like that before and it scared me much more than it did my son. I still get horrified when I think about it and that was over ten years ago. Things that you can never imagine happen when you have children. It's amazing how many scraps they can get into. No wonder us caring mothers get old before our time, lol.
Glad that everything is fine,
Take care,
Marcy
