Had a hankering for a little OLD buttocks egg basket for quite awhile. These things seem to come over me sometimes. I looked in many places, and finally won a bid on this one on Ebay. The fellow who sold it to me said his family came to Florida from Kentucky and his grandmother had this basket - it is so dusty on the inside, and weathered just enough to make me love it, but it is still sturdy.

Anybody out there tell me if I got a treasure? It is to me anyway, but I am not an expert on baskets. I just know it takes a long time to have as much settled dust on the inside as it does! By the way, that is a hatched Cardinal's egg in it that I saved out of a nest.

Thank you everyone! Miss Wilma - there are no breaks, only what I would call wear. For instance the handle is worn so thin in the middle that it looks delicate. But it does not bend or move or anything. The weave on the bottom has places that are a little broken, but no holes you can see through. I think they call the handle strips a god's eye, or something? Well, there a couple of breaks in one of them. Today, I saw what almost looked like what would have been letters carved into the top of the handle at once time. I could see a B and an X. I had not noticed that before. Anyway, I got it for about 35.00. I was happy because all the other ones I have seen are 80.00 and up, like your local prices, Miss Wilma.

I won't gather eggs in it, for one thing I have no chickens! But I just love to hold it and look at it. I have one other small and very old basket that is like a miniature picnic basket with a hinged lid and a movable handles. The little nails in it are square and handmade, it looks like. That one I keep fabric softener sheets in my laundry room. This one I have in the dining room with another basket and some hydrangea blooms. It is just for pretty.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions! :)

Hi, Jeannie looks like you got a treasure, prices differ in different areas, Here I would get from 125- 150 for a basket like that . does it have any breaks, that would bring the value down some

Thanks for replying, Frannie! I know you know baskets, and primitives.

It is about 6 inches wide and about 5 inches tall. Anyone else have knowledge of old baskets? Miss Wilma? Nancy Jo?
