I know some of you saw the show that was out our way. Just a little update I found on a website that I wanted to share with you.....
Here's a good article on Mary Boettcher, her family and the resources they're finding for the new youth room built during the recent Extreme Home Makeover TV show. She is simultaneously working with the Silver Stage Youth Organization to find funding and support for a new public youth center in Silver Springs (I believe they got CDBG funds to have archaeological and engineering surveys of the land that has been donated for the purpose). Steve and Mary don't think they will have a problem with upkeep, taxes, or running the household and recreation room. It's true their income is the same and the outlays will be more but Mary said, "We'll get by somehow."
They always fed the kids -- now there are just more mouths to feed. Last week's taco dinner that the youths gobbled up came complete with salad and beverages and cost the Boettchers about $150. It will cost somewhere between $100 and $150 a week to feed the kids a meal, said Mary.
The Boettchers are excited about new uses for their recreation room. During spring break, author Terri Farley, who writes the Phantom Stallion book series, is offering a creative writing class for youths through the Lyon County Recreation Division. An area HAM radio group will be using the recreation center once a month for their meetings. And the ministry recently held a memorial service for a Dayton man who was tragically killed in an accident.
"We are hoping people who borrow the recreation center will help us with the cost of heating and lighting the facility so we can keep offering it for use outside of our ministry events," she said.
The Boettchers say they will forever be grateful to everyone from throughout Northern Nevada that made their new home and recreation room possible. "Thank you seems so hollow," said Steve, adding that there aren't words to express their gratitude.
