I just wanted to share my husband's latest project. The waterwheel.
It is not finished yet, but it is looking like a wheel.
You may remember me mentioning that a waterwheel was on our property over 100 years ago. My husband has wanted to put one back in the original site for a long time. Last week he started construction on one. He loves to build things and is enjoying this so much. He can't wait to finish it.

Thanks Jessica. Those pictures are so pretty. We had the same drought here in Oct. and it put all the lakes and streams low here also. By Jan. there was quite a difference in the water level.

wow! is that cool!! years ago i lived (actually grew up) in clinton, new jersey---home of the historic clinton mill....with a water wheel. anyway, ken kershaval, remember him on dallas?? he played pam ewing's brother....anyway, ken came out to clinton, loved it and decided to renovate one of the historic homes in town. the water wheel was in poor shape so it was suggested that if he bought the town, or rather our historic mill! a new wheel, his permits would probably move along a little faster. ken bought the wheel and renovated his new home!! |

Jessica, I thought that was the same building. I started to ask Miss Wilma how much for those mill stones.lol....
Yes, Amie and Alee. We do plan on trying to make electricity. We have an old generator that Billy bartered for. I would love to try grinding corn and grain too. I hope we are able to do it. He plans on being ready to set the water wheel in the creek in the middle of April.

Wow! Your husband sure is handy! It is beautiful! Are you going to do anything with the water wheel- as in electricity or grinding grain?

Pam - take a look at Wilma's picturetrail and the main photo is one that I took of the mill there at the park in London. It also shows just a portion of one of the largest millstone collection. The park was originally in the family before they sold it to the state. The mill still works and is a sight to see. I have more photos up in my blog tonight so you can see more with the water, etc. :)

It is at Levi Jackson State park, I dont have pictures bue I would think Jessie does . I will ask her, Also you probably could pull it up on google. We took my granddaughters there a couple of years ago and bought ground meal for them

This is fantastic, How I envy you. I love any thing like that of course when I was growing up my dad took corn to the mill to be ground. We have a great mill at London where I was born,It really has a special meaning for me, that is where my husband asked me to marry him almost 46 years ago.

That is just too neat. You don't see a lot of old waterwheels up here, but a lot of old mills. Weisenberger Mill just down the road makes some delicious muffin mix and biscuit mix. Keep us up to date about the wheel.
