Last friday was the first(and last) great weather day in months here. So of course, I celebrated by going to a couple of thrift stores. I want to be like Nancy Jo.(still no pie birds, though). Here's what I found:I fell in love with this old egg beater. That's why I paid what was probably too much for it(9.99). I'd like to know how old it is. Anybody have an idea?
Here's the next thing:This is a genuine Western Electric princess phone. It's the second one I've had. The other one was blue and when I put it in my booth at the antique mall, it was gone in a week. I almost did that with this one. But I love old phones. And when the princess phone came out, I wanted one. But I was 12, and my vote didn't count. So I'm finally getting one for myself. Going to use it in the trailer at the farm - the one I've got now is tacky and lightweight. The third and last thing:I paid $6.00 for this platter and that's a lot for me. But it will look great with my old Virginia Rose china. I love that pattern - partly because of the wild roses and partly because it was my father's sister's name.

Such nice treasure finds, Janice ... but I love the egg beater the very best. I would have paid $10 for it too! Of course, that phone is very nice. I am partial to old dial phones. They still work here though I've heard you can no longer use them in some areas ... boohoo!

Janice I still use my egg beater and love it,you know advertizing is a have to if you are going to have a buiness, The last one I was in some of us dealors even offered extra money per month if they would advertise no deal, So I am not going to pay rent for nothing, the funny thing is the good customers I had in the mall now come here. I know it cost to have a buiness but its not a buiness if you dont sell, I swannee Janice I believe some people just pay the rent becauce they dont want it at thier house and have no where to put it.I am sure its dissapointing to you to because I know that you know good mdse to. It is not just collecting rent, its selling

Miss Wilma - my antique mall raised the rent six months ago with the promise of more advertising and a nice big sign on the side of the building(you can see the building from a major expressway - the exit lets out a block from the place). None of those things have happened. All I have is more rent and less profit.

Jonni - Okay, girl. Now I'm craving Benedictine sandwiches and some peach mango tea. ;)

MB - My dh actually paid for the old egg beater(I had run out of money by then). Does that mean I'm obligated to use it in some kind of cooking experience??? :O Oops! I don't think I'm prepared for that at all! LOL!

Janice i know why you would move out, I did to, and I know for a fact it is what the malls carry and how well they advertise that makes for a good buiness, When I walk into a place and it looks like a huge yard sale with antique prices I instantly put an X on it,If a mall carries quality MDSE there will always be buyers, I t seems like if they have enough booths filled that makes an antique mall, not so, I dont waste my time going to places like that, I had rather have 10 good dealors than a building full of fill ups, but the point is filling the place up to cover expenses, I say start little only let good dealors in and your buiness will build, It takes some extra money to get started but in the long run it will pay off. I have a lot of out of state buyers and would love to take them around to other places but like so many other areas I am not going to waste time going to see that stuff. I do love to go to yard sales and thrift stores but like antiques they have their own place. Hope things pick up for you .

Great goodies Janice! Old phones are becoming like records....kids go "what are those??" Some are raised with a cordless phone, cell phone, or a phone with the answering machine attached. On the records, it looks like they are making a comeback. I've actually still got several Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens records (some never taken out of the factory wrap). I use to have Alison Krauss's LP but ended up selling it for $80 a couple of years ago on ebay. (Still kicking myself for selling it though).

Ohhh the toy train stuff sounds like fun! :)

I only paid $4.04 for that phone. My antique mall booth space is on the way out because business there is so bad. The last one I sold I think I got $25.00 for. Usually mid-twenties is about it. Although in price books I think they list for more.

Janice,
Glad to see you were helping out by buying from the thrift, but I always think the buyer gets the better deal. You sure did. I had read that old phones are sought after items. How much are people asking for them and getting?

Wow, Janice--you've done really well!!! I love that platter....such pretty, bright spring flowers! Needs some cucumber sandwiches, it does! And, I too, love a princess phone. I wanted a pink one like Doris Day had in Pillow Talk!!!!

Hi, Miss Wilma. No, my dh is set on going to a toy train show that happens once a year here in town. Last year he bought an enormous train layout that we've got stuffed into a room at the farmhouse. I'm almost afraid to guess what he may find this year. :O
