I try to wait a week to buy something I want. More often than not, I don't buy it.
Buy major purchases off of craigslist. DH and I got a jenn air stove that was barely used for $400, and a brand new pellet stove, worth 2000+ for $700
Ask for something useful for birthdays/Christmas. I want a cow or beekeeping stuff for my Bday, or a baby tow behind for my bike.
I am also looking for a CSA program that I can exchange my work for produce.
Buy stuff that will last you forever. Really, even fashionistas can get buy witha few good pairs of shoes and a few bags. Go for classic style not trendiness.

Great Ideas Heather. Here a few of mine and what I do:

Pay with cash not credit. No bill at the end of the month and cash freaks out the clerks. So there is a small amount of entertainment value too.

Save as much money as you can for that rainy day or repair. That one is my hardest one to do.

Eat at home and pack lunches. Eating out is one of the biggest expensive people have. It's not as healthy for you and you end up throwing your leftovers out. That tiny serving left after your main meal(or eating out) you can package up and taken with you the next day. Your co-workers will envy you. I know as my boss's co-workers are always asking me to make them lunches too. MMM Business idea!

Cook from scratch as much as possible. It's healthier and less costly for most part. Split recipes in half or fourths if you do not like leftovers or need a smaller portion. Or freeze for fast meal later on. But remember to use it. Get a Good easy cookbook if you need help in cooking

Make menus and then your shopping list. I make my menus for 2 weeks but do it as 14 meals. I found I rarely made what I planned for the day, but having the supplies and the meal in writing made it easier and more effective.

Shop the perimeter of grocery store and buy what is on sale and seasonal. Do not be afraid of reduced meat or bakery. I just freeze both if I will not be using them in the next 24 hour. I try to shop the same store all the time and just one store. Where I live there are many stores but I hate to shop so I stay to the one I find most enjoyable and you learn that they repeat their sales and lay out, so you can find what you need faster and stock for shorter periods of time. I rarely use coupons unless it is for something I really use.

Watch the snacks and beverages you buy they can really add up on the bill and your waist. I'm not say don't buy them but stretch them by adding fruit and veggies raw to your diet. Tea is a nice substitute for soda and a little seltzer in your juice can be a substitute for soda also.

Use items till they break or cost more to repair then buy new. The latest and greatest technology is fun but in the end cost much more and fills our landfills.

By seconds, shop at thrift stores or rummage sales. Know your name brands if you like them. You will be surprised at what people throw away or donate. I bought a New Charles David Leather purse for 2.98. I found out later it was over 350.00 retail. I wish I would have bought the other 3 too. Maybe could have sold them for a profit too. I'm not a purse gal.

Last, be true to your spirit and self. Do not or buy to try to impress others. You will find you are happier and others will envy you.

Hope these ideas helps some.
