Not sure how many subscribe to it, but I'm sure it will come out on DVD within six months. It's a fabulous mini series. Really interesting perspective on colonial america. Abigail Adams innoculated her children with smallpox, it was a terrific re-enactment. Not to mention all the background regarding the declaration of independence. It made me feel quite patriotic. jo

I watched it tonight too and my stomach got all squiggly during the small pox scenes. Ugh. I am so glad that isn't the way we get inoculated now!

Yellow fever was also endemic at that time. I think nearly 1/3 of Philadelphia died the summer he was first there with the colonial congress. Google Yellow Fever to find out facts about that one. I'm not sure what the infant mortality was at that time, but what hard, hard, times the colonists had. jo

it is a wonderful series .. i watched it TWICE! hope to be near a TV to watch the 3rd and 4th parts on Sunday (we'll be in TOLEDO!)
what a wonderful LOVE STORY between John and Abigail!
honey hunk looked at me and smiled and said it reminded him of us! (only we don't have to deal with smallpox!)
wasn't that a scary part .. especially when the children got it! so many children died early .. that i was very surprized that one of his children didn't!)
they said if you laid their love letters end on end .. it would reach for FIVE MILES! so great that they left such a legacy! xo

These are the times I wish we had HBO- when they put something like this on their schedule. I will wait patiently for the dvd.

Janice, I bet it will--I've heard about it, too, and would really like to see it...a lot of the HBO specials have come out on dvd--we non cable watchers get the shows a couple of years later, but what else are we doing???? I'm watching Dexter now, and immensely enjoying Weeds.

I read about this series, but I don't get HBO. I sure hope it comes out on DVD. It sounds fascinating.

I loved it! I can't wait for the next episode on Sunday. The smallpox innoculation was incredibly educational! I never really thought about how they got the serum or how they recieved it before. Eeeeewww!
